  • Not trying to dispute this technique, but in the police academy I learned a chocking defense in which you quickly raise your right arm and cross it over your attackers arms moving it from right to left while also twisting your body to the left. Bascially your arm is moving counterclockwise from a 3:00 position to a 10:00 position. The combination of the twisting motion and your arm & shoulder pushing against person's hand releases the choke hold. Anyone know how that technique compares to this?

  • @TheSuperBlackMan We call that Front Choke with Push. (being pushed) This is from a static position. You can do Front Choke with a push standing static as well. This only in the place static. I thought I had posted with a push. It is on my Womens Fighting Chance DVDs. If I have it on my hard drive I will post it. Thanks for your comment. I need instructors for my special women's and kids course that deal with abduction and sexual assault. If interested let me know. Thank you for commenting.

  • dont get in bed with her.. wtf she fuck you up. she'll be the one telling you to bend over.

  • Great video by the way!

  • A good idea is to put your head down, so if the attacker attempts to headbutt you, they'll end up smashing it against your head. Your simultaneous strike/step back is the same though.

  • Gumbi, excellent point. It is actually more common in the middle east that people will choke and head butt as well. It is part of the reason I teach this one defense as opposed to the generic 2 hand pluck. That said, if you do the 2 hand pluck add by putting your chin down as you pluck as Gumbi suggests. Thank you for the valued comment.

  • Thanks. You can also throw in a palm strike to the nose as you step back and put your head down. (Reinforce and use to hands, otherwise the strike probably won't be as effective)

Then you can peel the hands away or whatever and do some knees/strikes...

  • @FrontlineKravMaga I know the two handed pluck. Loving this one. Nothing like options to make a girl smile ^_^ Thank you for such wonderful uploads.

  • I don't know why you are teaching this, but don't tell your students to pull the hand across their neck, tell them to pull it down. Pulling across the neck tears at the throat and can cause the attacker to puncture the throat. I've seen someone in practice get their throat cut (not badly) by pulling the hand across instead of straight down. I also don't like how you tell her to step back because that takes power out of the strike and you lose some of your base.

  • Jamesbigmac, you are showing your inexperience and lack of tactical awareness. Position your hands in front of you as if you are choking someone. The angle of the hands make taking the hands across a walk in the park. Secondly the scratch you saw was most likely the defenders own nail as they pluck across. 3. I mainly teach women to step back as they pluck because it diminishes the leverage of the attacker. You thinking it weakens the power of the strike is silly. go to part 2

  • Part 2 Jamesbig The fact that the attacker is being pulled in by the pluck brings them close to you. The impact is resolved that way. Agreed the strike is to destroy immediately, but more importantly to stun to swarm with heavier strikes. One other point, an aggressive choke with the attacker pushing upward with real strength will be far more difficult to move down than easily taking it to the side. Your response tells me your training or your understanding is faulty. go to part 3

  • Part 3 now add a knife in their right hand. You still going to pluck it down? You respond how you train. Thats why I and every elite instructor I know, including my lead instructor the late Eli Avikzar, for head of Krav Maga for IDF teach it as I do. Maybe you know more than us all.

  • I've actually used this before when someone choked me so I have had a little bit of experience with it. It was against a much bigger guy that had me up against a wall and plucking down was no problem. I really don't want to think about what would have happened if I dragged the guy's thumb right across one of the most vulnerable spots on my body. I know there are a couple of other techniques for being against a wall, but that was the first thing that I reacted with.

  • @jamesbigmac75 -First of all if you were against the wall other defenses can be used but this is fine if you have room. The stepping back not necessary. But still your assessment that their thumb will "puncture" your throat is just ridiculous and doesn't deserve further discussion. In my 16 years of teaching Krav Maga having students doing this full speed against full strength millions of times is proof enough that your silly "puncture theory" has never and will never occur. regards Rick Seid

  • חחח נו באמת

  • the tech we use is a bit different, but the basics are kinda the same

  • Iceberg, I am guessing you use the 2 hand pluck. No problem. Very good tactic.

  • Parkmusjesse, I don't have to assume because I have 100 lb women that break the choke no problem when they do this. The plucking of the hand is done with speed & force NOT strength. Hammer a nail into the wall. You don't push it you pop it. Why explain wrist twist? Your thinking is faulty. Hurting your attacker, quickly with ferocity to tender areas is the key. Here we pin the hand to the body & strike. Good luck trying to wrist twist someone stronger than you. You may only after striking them

  • i have a problem with this move, your assuming that the woman is strong enough to break the choke with momentum only, there is barely any explanation on the wrist twist. joints are a key with dealing with someone stronger then you

  • personally i think the best self defense for the everyday person is krav maga mixed with BJJ. They're both very direct systems that are easy to remember and work well despite body mass. Trust me... I've actually had to use it on a couple occasions.

  • why bjj? theres groundfighting in krav maga.

bjj is good but the only way it really differs from say judo newaza or any other grappling art is its enthasis on position over submission and you dont want to be working for position in a streetfight, you want to get back to your feet or finish the fight as quickly as possible .

  • If you really want to get dirty you don't have rip at wear the thumb and wrist connect, you get under the webbing between the thumb and index and twist outward explosively and potentially tear some ligements that way. Choking days, over for a few months :P. And of course the protocol-like striking in krav maga, knee-cap, groin, clinch, knees, hammerfist to spine, walk.

  • where... not wear

  • just a small pointer to all of you..the thumb is the weaker area of the hand,it is the lacking muscle and siezing power when moving outward,so by doing this drill we should always remember alway pull the hand no matter the strength,i did the same drill with 135 kilo marine against a 65 kilo female marine..

    nice one front line

  • Responding to BodyperformanceTV, I have used this defense in training many times. You don't have to have super human strength to make it work. Using speed and force, if you move the choke off of your throat even a half inch, that is enough to re-open your airway and start your attck. The choke removal is crucial, but so is the attack. And the attack comes at the same time as eliminating the choke, or within a second or two. Try it...it's very effective.

  • Let's say she's not stronger than you. How does she then remove your hands? Let's say her attacker is 6'6" and she can't reach him with a punch him. What then? I ask because I have crazy strength but I might not use that technique against my friends who also have crazy strength but are a foot taller than me.

  • Strength doesn't matter too much here. Speed and force will remove the choke. Try holding your hand out in front of you very firmly and have a much smaller/weaker person push your hand with SPEED and FORCE. Your hand will move.

If she can't reach the face, the knees to the groin should suffice.

  • Let's say her attacker is 7 foot. We have a 7 footer trains in our class.First this is speed and force not strength to pluck the choking hand. I will tell you crazy strength or not done with speed and force it will move the choking hand. Also, no matter how tall, the attacker has to come down to you to choke, thus providing you the target you need. Nobody gets leverage choking by standing straight upright. If you were to choke a small child you need to bend down to them. Go to part 2

  • Now if he has 7 ft long arms this is a problem. The women in my class no matter how small have to work against the strongest and biggest in my classes. With speed and force plus upper body rotation if done right ...size / strength not a major issue. If I didn't explain this clearly in the video clip please let me know after you review it again.

  • I have recently signed up for an induction session in K M , I would like your opinion please. At fifty years old and quite fit ,but lots of commitments, could I progress if I do One session every two weeks and stick to it?

  • Hi LiveMusic, if these are private classes of a couple hours at a time I could teach you a lot fast. I can not vouch for another instructor. But, you must practice in some way in between classes and be prepared to go full steam in each session. Under those conditions you could progress. If these are regular classes once every 2 weeks...wait until you can train more consistently. Your age is fine. Hope this helps.

  • Thanks for your encouragement, I will go ahead and do intend to parctice in between sessions.

  • Sayaret and yamam uses commando krav maga? I must have been mislead into believing that all of the israeli special forces practice an amalgamation of martial arts, hence the term krav maga (contact combat). Itay Gil doesn't practice commando krav maga; and he was a yamam instructor. Please elaborate on this claim.

  • This is an astute assessment by Youngilethal. The poster Aleksey has most likely attended a Moni Aizik CKM seminar and has bitten off more than he can chew. Whereas Moni has tactics being used by Special Forces and Anti terrorist units, respectfully to Moni (primarily Judo / Jujitsu)he is only one of many that teach variety of tactics (Krav Maga, Hisardut) to the above mentioned groups. I didn't feel like going into detail before or now. Thanks for adding valuable input Youngilethal.

  • Frontlinekravmaga.......The israeli special forces and anti terror units would not use this defense. I know this because I have trained with the guy who trains them. This defense compromises your balance, and assumes that the choke is static. The sayaret and yamam are trained in commando krav maga, and the defense is different.

  • My lead instructor in Israel was the legendary Eli Avikzar, head of Krav Maga for the Israeli military for 12 years. If he were still alive perhaps he, like I do would disagree with you. When pushed we do something different. This is when the choke IS static. Your assessment that in this situation compromises your balance is just silly.

  • Part 2- To clarify-- Real fighting is tactical sensitivity. You respond to or get proactive against what you see or feel. If pushed, as I mentioned, a different response would be made. This may be what you were referring to. But you should have recognized the difference. As a side note, today instructors in the Israeli military are given the leeway to incorporate some of their own material.

  • This defense is classic, basic Krav Maga and is VERY effective against a choke, when you are not being pushed. Maybe Frontline would upload a video of defense against choke with a push or against a wall to contrast techniques.

  • what martial arts forms is krav derived from?

  • a lot of others

  • Simply put:

Striking - Western Boxing / Muay Thai

Self Defense - mostly Krav Maga tactics /concepts

Weapon Defenses - Krav Maga concepts

Ground - basic krav but now a lot of brazilian Jujitsu mix modified for getting up off the ground.

Basic Krav concept- attacking attacking attacking. Defenses composed of attack at the same time or the very next moment.

  • atleast in kami - israeli krav magen, there is alot of influence from Hapkido,

(I used to practice for some years.)

but seems like there are more defenses in krav maga.

I think the main weakness is on the ground.

Another thing is that some practitioners may not get the concept or philosophy of the movements just because they're strong enough and treat it like sports. so u should understand the technique for correct punching kicking strategy and defense, so you can use it freely in a fight

  • Hi Kobi, Actually the influence is Judo / aikido. Both of which Eli (KAMI founder) held Black Belts. I also feel there is more than necessary fat in Krav Magen as opposed to Krav Maga. When I was a member of KAMI I used to trim my curriculum to only what I deemed necessary in the street. Eli told me he added some things to add a little beauty to KAMI, BUT in real life use the "ugly of Krav Maga." KAMI is limited without much groundfight. Many of us have added or modified BJJ for the street.

  • cool, i didn't know that. thanks.

  • street fight from jerusalem and israel

  • Very, very effective. This is truly amazing. What martial arts style did this come from? Or was it just out of the blue?

  • Hi Dashblades,

This training is Krav Maga. Official Israeli fighting system of the Israeli military, special forces and anti-terror units. Thanks for your kind words.

  • Oh, I knew it was Krav Maga. But just like Brazilian Jiu Jitsu came from Jujitsu, what did Krav Maga come from?

  • Beside for our own unique tactics against Weapons (Guns, Knife & Stick) and self defense responses Krav Maga has incorporated the following:

*Western Style boxing & Muay Thai for striking

*Modified BJJ for street fight and groundfight against weapons.

Unfortunately in many USA Krav Maga Schools it has become so diluted and reduced to cardio Krav.

My students learn more Krav Maga in a few months than most USA instructors ever learn. It pains me to say this.

  • Great Stuff, Keep them vids coming.

If you live in the broward county area you should really take this class, I am in my second week and I love it.
