i thought the challenge was to look stylish without becoming a clown. you know, like audrey hepburn or marguerite duras. what's up with all those accessories...that's how you show your personality?! really?!
I love sophisticated and daring clothing, but if you can't be casual, why not? If you rely upon material consumption to create your identity, you will not be art, you will be pollution.
I love, love this! Fabulous clothes - I had on a vintage suit the other day with a beautiful fur collar and got so many compliments; when you dress up, it makes you feel fabulous. I shared this on Facebook with many fashion designers and models that I know. THESE ladies are the ones who blazed the trail that we now follow - go, girls!
I luv this video, and have been following these ladies for quite awhile. I am jealous of their fabulous style - wish I had a 10th they have. A friend commented that it's a great video to start the day with....and I agree totally!!
You go girls! In New Orleans we costume a LOT! We live to costume. Why not costume every day? It just makes you feel great to do it. And it's fun. Be avante garde - and an individual! Most high fashion houses go to the streets to get their inspiration. These ladies are on the forefront of something. Wait and see.
I absolutely love this! I appreciate the person who was in charge of making this idea happen. I only hope to believe that if I am lucky to make it that far this could be a glimpse of my own future. It is so courageous and inspiring. These women dare to be nothing but their selves and embrace it all and I applaud and take notes!
My Mom dressed in wild colors and mixed fashions her whole life here in NM and definitely lived her life to the fullest. She would laugh to know she was so stylish like these ladies. It makes me so happy I was lucky to be raised by a true person in all respects. And now at 51 I can only hope I can be as true to myself by my fashion too.
I LOVE IT!! I am so delighted with those stylish and brilliantly creative women! Hooray for moving the marker over about 2 standard deviations away from the black widow's weeds!!
These women inspire me. They don't conform to the "normal" grandma who stays in the kitchen and bake cookies. They are awesome and I sure hope that I am like that when I am their age! :)
I LOVE how these women are so alive and willing to live out loud! Am so grateful that there are role models out there. That we women don't have to be afraid of growing older. That we can be beautiful at any age, with any amount of wrinkles. Hallelujah!
Favorite quotes: "I am dressed up for the theatre of my life every day" and "Young women, you're going to be an old woman some day, don't worry about it. Don't sweat it."
I like this video. These women are full of Life but I Wish they would've interviewed other ethnicities of women. New York is full of culture & people from all over the world. Perhaps I'm being premature as it does say the documentary is planned to come out in the summer of '2012 so may be that's in the works...
@18elana - It's not that we are judging them by the way they dress so much as by their spirit and liveliness and sense of adventure. They are fun and daring and courageous and the world would probably be a better place if more people lived that way no matter their age.
@scrawnieawnie - Who cares what they looked like when they were young? That's not what this is about. It's about what they are doing with their lives NOW. These women are the epitome of style.
These ladies are inspiring! I tend to dress better/more out there than most people but I usually hold myself back from looking "too weird". I think tomorrow I'll push the limits :)
Terrific! My sentiments precisely. Thanks strong women. This, my 74th year I am blessed with good health, good family, good friends, good part time job supervising young teachers and a treasure of a husband. I delight in sharing my age and never have denied it. We all should be proud of what we are at any time. Constantly growing and enjoying each day's gifts.
i WANT to be EVERY single of of these FABULOUS women when I DON'T grow up!I salute evert single one of them for never EVER stepping into primark..HUGE fashion high 5 ladies!
@scrawnieawnie You disgust me. Perhaps you're a jealous, close-minded and inconsiderate fool. I've seen 15 year old girls running around in next to nothing, is that what you'd like to call style? No. The point of this video is to show us that we shouldn't be condemned to the stereotyping of our age. These women put their heart and soul into something that they love, and THAT we should appreciate; just the same as an artist's painting or a singer singing. Do us all a favour and go fuck yourself.
@jubstermonster Jealous, close-minded and incosiderate? Look in the mirror. Why attack so viscously? I very much appreciate and delight in the joy, creativity and fun of this video. (those 15 year olds are probably doing the best they can to be creative for their age and time) How did you summon up so much anger and use such ugly words to describe your views after watching it? Just sayin' that maybe ya'll can give this some reflection-- and put on a colorful hat ... and some beads. :)
@merylste Hi there. I wasn't talking about the video, I was replying to some rude person who said some nasty things about this video that that be seen in one of the below comments (although it's been hidden due to so many low ratings). This was merely my response to them. And I concur, I love everything about this video!
Anyone who can be childish enough to criticise or judge these marvelous mature women needs to remember,no-one is young forever! What they're doing is NOT stagnating in some dreary stereotype of what mature folk seem to be expected to endure. They've broken the mould.Surely we should be celebrating their zest for life and style and individuality! At 51 I've been accused of dressing 'age innapropriately',lol, whatever THAT means.I'd be proud to know these amazing women,& I applaud them all.
18elana. My dear this was not a film about judging looks. It was a film about elderly ladies still feeling free to express themselves in a society who judges their age and minds as no longer valuable. I am 53 years old and embrace this film with laughter and life!
I love it!!! I can see youth in the souls of all these women. Although the body gets old, the mind and spirit can stay incredibly young and playful. Thanks for putting these ladies on film. Can't wait to see the movie!!!
These women are so gorgeous and courage to brake out of the box that makes our life's so miserable. They undoubtedly act to most senior women as an inspiration. I love them for what they do and how they want to look. Lets bear in mind that our mind and thinking doesn't change even though our age is over 100 :)
Great idea. Shame it is mostly older white women. Come on! In NYC there are loads of incredibly stylish older black, chicana, asian and mixed women. Make a difference.
on his blog he features several black women, asian, etc. so I'm hoping they will make it into the film. This is a working trailer and aside from Iris who is hugely famous in her own right I do recognize two of the other ladies who have their own styling blog which is perhaps why they are featured.

Wow. What a fascinating niche of the socialite world. Being individualistic looks to be easier with inherited or married means; there's so much more time and freedom that goes with privilege. The clip shows how to make the best of a best situation. Very interesting.
@rhinestoneman Agreed. But actually, a lot of the women on the Advanced Style blog are not wealthy or privileged. The blog is a mix of people (a few men have been on there) of widely varied means.
