  • You made sure to create another account for users right?

  • had to check it out on the other site since it helps to have some narration besides the music, not a bad video either way and it's nice that they let you put anther OS on their system. not all places are as accomodating

  • ubuntu !!!! Linux for human beings

  • great job, me too using UBUNTU Linux , congratulations . keep it up ;)

  • Gotta love those bumtastic copyright infringement notices.

Hope you're still rocking Ubuntu. I just switched my laptop ;).

  • if you had a large number of computers and atleast 1 router

you could have done a network install before installing ubuntu on the last windows computer

  • como é que esse video conseguiu esse tanto de voto ?

  • What processor did the computer had?

  • Why? Ubuntu will run on anything!

  • OMG i saw this like 2 years ago, and it was soooo much better with the other music & When u was talking, Please Put it back on :(

  • Good job !!! I guess no more issues with spyware and viruses.

  • Ubuntu (linux) for life !

  • is that a library or a closet with books in it?

  • Do you use Ubuntu on a home basis as well? I do, and I absolutely love it.

  • now im thinking of switching to ubuntu myself can you use your ipod on ubuntu?

  • Yes, nearly all audio players you install on ubuntu (including rhythmbox) will see an and sync an ipod.

    sudo apt-get install gtk-pod

    for more advanced features.

  • yes u can

  • I did, until my family swore death to me if I didn't put Windows Vista back on.

  • Ahaha! I know the feeling. My computer is the family computer, so I told them to live with it.

  • its not rap moron...at least i heard no rymes

  • a lesser know feature about linux installations that could have been helpful here (less work on your watch) - you can use terminal commands to install linux on multiple computers (at the same time!) google know's a lot more about it than i do. -search it.

  • I have ubuntu at my church

Use tellico for the church library to check in and out books

then we have a computer in the sunctuary it uses uvuntu 8.10 has audacity for sound recording lyricue for dual screen projection and turbo jet to burn 3 cd's at once

  • Yay for ubuntu in libraries

  • whats up with the audio?

  • I had a choice to either remove the video or audio swap the audio because of a copyright claim. So I put this in for now while I see what my options are. I'll probably add subtitles.

  • stupid youtube and audioswap.

    good luck.

    i hate how they're muting everthing D:

    stupid viacom & RIAA

  • what copy right did you violate

  • @iamthebestartist So I guess that's a "no" on the subtitles?... Bummer about the copyright claim.

  • Whoa! Bad ass!

  • Well done Jess! Very cool!

  • Lol, i like how she says all the library computers, (2) lol

  • Yeah...like nearly a decade ago.

  • putting Ubuntu or linux on those computers was the best choice cause you don't have to deal with licencing headaches cause everything is open source and when someone needs to use a certain program for something, its all in the add/remove channel. I'm surprised those old computers even run ubuntu on them lol they should have xubuntu at least so you have the speed.

  • now what's stickin' it to the man

way to go with ubuntu, i'm making a CD right now

  • I tried to burn a CD of ubuntu but I could not get it to work so I order a free cd and right after, I got it to work. So soon I will have 2 ubuntu cds.

  • Great video! More libraries should do what you did: running Microsoft Windows only leads to costly licenses, viruses, malware, spyware, and unnecessary reinstallations. Ubuntu Linux gives you complete freedom for free!

  • @TrenchcoatSteve Well, the thing is, Most people don't know how to use Ubuntu

  • @SuperSomerandomname Yeah, an IQ of 70+ is required to learn Ubuntu.

  • Nice video...........ubuntu is the best choice for your open source move. Good Luck with your library and linux.

  • i like ubuntu

  • Wow, that was kind of inspiring! :) Thanks for sharing that!

  • It's a good video for people wanting to let others know about Ubuntu and the Open Source community as a whole. It's great that you've also installed it on your libraries computers.

  • i love Ubuntu................

  • nice!!!

  • You should of gotten Edubuntu since its for a Library...

  • Nah, Edubuntu is more for schools and young children

  • what so special with openoggice on linux? Open Office is for win xp too

  • TurockValentin: it's exactly the same thing... OOo works for both OS.

By the way "openoggice" doesn't exist.

  • OpenHaggis? :3

  • really good

  • Good idea. If you haven't already you should make sure people can't get root access with that password, that could get ugly fast. Also you can edit your menus to limit the default applications people have access to.

  • Nice work ladies

  • terrific! Free software for a free library. What a concept.

  • what song is this?...UBUNTU!!!!

  • Wow, you did a wonderful community service!

    Ubuntu FTW

  • how do i get Wireless card to work..i installed it to my lap top =(...my nvidia graphics card it says its disabled but im able to run youtube on it...im a bit confused on wat to do

  • if you need help go to ubuntu forums

  • go to ubuntu forums and them the specs of your computer and what doesn't work they'll help you.

  • Restricted drivers. I think for my laptop it was listed there and I just had to enable it.

  • can you send me a disc with Ubuntu? I can't seem to get one. :-(

  • Go to the website, they'll send you one, although it might take a while if you live in the U.S.

  • I am going to try Ubuntu, BUT with something they just made...Wubi which you can install ubuntu straight to the C: drive in windows without partitioning. Neat? Just google "Wubi" its usally the 1st choice. Enjoy this new info!

  • its much more fun just to partion... its a good learning curve and you wont look back once your on Ubuntu

  • Just done your suggesting! Excellent os! But there are a few things that I still need windows for because wine doesn't work with certain software so I duel booted but I like Ubuntu better for being customizable and stable! Thankyou for the suggesting.

  • try Wubi you don't need to partition anything. It'll run off of the same windows partition and duel boot. It's a lot easier.

  • thats just boring, STFU, lool :P

  • I wonder whats all gonna be new in 8.10 intrepid ibex.

  • same here

  • what they should have is more stablility and more speed and compatiblity with more windows programs. I'm usin linux mint elyssa (which is hardy) its actually similar to ubuntu just different stuff.

  • Ah, this video makes me sad. My local High School just got rid of all its library books and renamed it the media room. What's a senior supposed to read in this place!!!

  • And remember, if a librarian can do it(no offence), anyone can!

  • wow that librarian is hot i'd like to do some "ubuntuing with her" lol ;) j/k

  • LOL

  • You are awesome plz marry me!

  • I hope that you didn't have user and password = 'library' for your admin. If so, that means anyone can do anything they want with the computer. That can cause you a lot of hassle. It is quite easy to have other names and passwords for non- admin persons and make it auto login.

aMSN is worth installing. It is very easy to do, via the menu to add programs, and is FAR better than Pidgin.

  • i think that emesene is even better than amsn.

  • aMsn wouldnt login for me, pidgin gives me errors, emsene works great :)

  • well done, linux ftw

  • cool music xD

  • Yo, librarian is cute, if I were in Washington, I think I'd have to go read me some books :)

  • Wait a minute, is that the music from The Sims? :D

  • no but it does sound simalar

  • no quite

  • umm do u own the library or did u do it as a prank?

  • Not sure about broadcasting your secure logon & password on youtube, but Ubuntu rules. Faster, more secure and stable than Windoze. It will run on anything & positively fly on any computer that will run vista smoothly. You can get freeware/open source equivalents for most windows apps.

Only downside in my book is it can be a pain finding drivers for some devices - if it wasn't for that I'd ditch Windows completely! I now check compatibility BEFORE buying any new peripheral.

  • secure??? in a library? wth? maybe she doesnt know about the automatic logon :)

  • Ubuntu rules!

  • best operating system in the world ;)

  • Great video!! I'm so happy with Ubuntu myself I can't describe it!

  • HAhaha erase all the hard disk ? YES

  • Your library is in Redmond?I hope that Bill won't see this.

  • Yes you have made the correct choice of using Ubuntu for a small network. I would have done the same.

  • Good thing you did at your library. Your library will be more fun now! :)

  • make sure your BIOS and Root setup have a password so people don't mess with stuff they don't need to.

    nice job with library pcs

  • I'm surprised those computers had enough memory for ubuntu. Oh well, if it works :D

  • 256 is pretty common these days emimask, and you can even run it on 128

  • i ran it on 64 mb lol anything is possible

  • A goldfish has enough memory for Ubuntu! It's not a resource hog like windoze.

  • Windows is such a resource hog. For you to have decent system with Vista, you will have to have 4gb! For a decent system in Ubuntu, 1gb. Wow...

  • ubuntu is the best OS available out there. it just works! no headache! i use it for desktop as well as server. it's easy to configure, especially for server. what i like most is its software package management aka aptitude.

  • Now the visitors to the calef library can look at porno with the knowledge that they are not supporting some large corporation

  • i just got ubuntu and it fucking owns i love it omg and the ppl that say its buggy have shit computers

  • yeah only the shit comps are buggy mine runs perfect :D

  • I'm sorry, what is the point of your post again?

  • To show that he (she? ) is a tool.

  • You better get some good restricted access on those comps now, or prepare to get hacked to bits by some people who could use them :P

  • OK, here is my question.

Can i play games like Battlefield 2, Gunz Online in Ubuntu???

  • You can try with WINE, or Cedega, but they probably won't work. If they do, they'll be buggy as hell.

  • Haha, good luck!

  • I do :(

  • fail

  • gunz is the shittyest game mankind has ever created

  • I installed Ubuntu 7.10 about a week ago and it had issues with my monitor so I switched to Mandriva but that kept locking up. Today I downloaded the brand new Ubuntu 8.04 LTS edition and it's great. Goodbye XP.

Nice video. Love that cajun music...

  • muy buen video--...

    Just Linux...

  • Hahaha awesome :D ubuntu is great :D

I could never use windows again since i moved!

  • What's the fucking difference? As long as it is better than windows.

  • then it not install correctly - I can help you... Linux just needs a little work and a Internet connection. Have you installed Automatic? and Ubuntu close source package in Synaptic?

  • I kind of agree. Ever since 7.10, Ubuntu has become a resource hog. I don't agree that it's the worst, but it definitely doesn't beat PCLinuxOS. Ubuntu 7.04 is by far the fastest.

  • people actually get faster framerates on windows games running through linux when done properly (windows = resource hog)

  • Yay! Thanks for sharing!

  • good job 10+

  • damn, now i want to get ubuntu. hey i need some advice, is it good to install it on my laptop????? can i still play counter strike with ubuntu?????? please help!!!!

  • joker: go to ubuntuforums dot org

  • YES YOU CAN

  • YES YOU CAN

  • get wine, you can play a variety of titles. I am playing Ultima Online on Ubuntu right at the moment.

  • Yeah wine. But you probably wont get much FPS from it. Unless your pc is piss fast.

  • I run WoW (World of Warcraft) On wine on ubuntu (gutsy 7.1.0) and it runs fine using a .dev package that implemented a script that dramatically increased the framerate. Not sure if this will work for other programs but it's possible to run them quite well.

  • great video :)

  • LOL I like Windows 2000, but Ubuntu is wayy cooler!

  • great video. nice ass.

  • I tries to install ubuntu with the wubi installer but it sucks, i get an error message of xserver thing and i tried doing it with a cd but the boot menu when i put the option to boot the cd, it just goes straight to windows... help please?

  • you have to go into your BIOS and change it to a CD boot

  • I got another harddrive for $7 bucks with 15gb.

  • Yeah, fuck MS Windows =P

  • Im also dual booting xp and ubuntu, but with dual hard drives. Love it!

  • nice! I have the same setup!

  • I'm dual booting Windows XP and Ubuntu 7.10. There's this thing called Wubi which is a Windows installer, which installs ubuntu on a seperate partition so you could dual boot it.. and the best thing is that it installs while you're running windows! No need for a CD.

That's how I got mine. Were you allowed to do that in the library? Just curious.

  • erm I have a feeling she runs the library...

  • I wonder, did the library ask her to do this or did she just do it (running the library counts as the library asking her.)

  • Ubuntu 7.10 is the best i switched from XP to ubuntu and never switching back

  • wooooooo!

    down with windows!

  • Rock out! Go go Library Powers!

  • lol, I love the very last part with windows on the floor.

  • I loved your presentation, well done very entertaining + music!

  • She cracks me up when shes explaining all the different programs on it

  • Smart women are so sexy. :)

  • Great video, catchy music and good editing.

Upgrade to 7.10 (it takes forever) System->Administration->Update Manager. Also, in Synaptics Package Manager, in the Administration folder, add (or search for) ubuntu-restricted-extras and install that to allow users to watch youtube, listen to mp3, etc. Also in the Administration folder is Users and Groups which will allow you to create user accounts for guests.

Again, sweet video, thanks for sharing.

  • Upgrade to 7.10 gutsy gibbon!

  • Awesome.

  • Name of music please !!??

  • Las amo

  • very nice! now I want to try linux on my old dell laptop

  • Ubuntu rules!

  • bootlegged

  • You should make open offices default .doc for the stupid people

  • Man, I'm so jealous. I wish I worked at a library. BTW, Ubuntu rocks!! (I had a nightmare last night that XP installed itself on my desktop accidentally, ruining my Ubuntu install!)

  • And on top of all that awesomeness.....They're running it on a Compaq! SWEET! *loves Compaq*

  • Try cinelerra...

  • Apparently you've never seriously used ubuntu. Otherwise you'd have another opinion.

  • Because you just can't get any work done, right? Open office seem to work. I can do anyting I can do in windows. Maybe you can't see that because it's so dark in your ass!

  • wow, a female uses Linux. yay, we're not all girlfriendless nerds now!

  • If you're not an asshole I don't know what is!

  • better way to record yourdesktop would be to use "gtk-recordmydekstop"

you can install it under ubuntu easily using:

    "sudo apt-get install gtk-recordmydesktop"

very easy to use, also can record sound.

    enjoy

  • ya, but the file output it .ogg witch isn't supported by youtube. so you'll have to convert it, and doing so will diminish video quality.

  • I'm using Ubuntu 7.10 right now! I switched from Windows Vista to Ubuntu a couple of days ago.

  • I did exactly the same and Im so glad i did it ^^ Even looks better than vista now

  • Linux is the new UNIX. Noobs!

  • I like linux ,especially ubuntu 7.04,now the ubuntu7.04 beta is released ,support it forever .
