What you say is true, it is not the original solo (the original solo in the song is not over those parts of the song, different chords) and that's why it is called an improvisation.

This is actually on of the few songs I ever played where I play the original solo (on the part where it should be). Making something up as you go is much more fun than playing other peoples solos note for note.

I don't really think one way, improvise or not, is better than another, it is just a matter of taste really.

Whatever that makes us feel good about it. I personally prefer improvisation because it is a "creative" moment when playing tunes that are more or less the same in every other aspect all the time live.

Sort of a way to not get bored with it.

It is a very good question but one that are very hard to answer. I think that my playing comes out the best when I don't think at all and just flow with what comes up in an absolute now (meaning, completely being there at that specific moment, no past and no future).

If I remember right was I feeling good but a bit bored from a slow gig and just really wanting to play a solo.

The pickups in that guitar are DiMarzio Breed (DP166 and DP165). I have that in most of my guitars. The middle one is a Blue Velvet, but it is not hooked up.

Sitting at a boring hotel in Denmark waiting to go on stage in a couple of hours, so questions are great.

My strings on that guitar are normal DAddario 010-046 (EXL110) and my setup(action) is very high.

My picks are Dunlop Ultex 1.14mm.

Yes, I do change pickups a lot, I just like to change the tone throughout my solos (and also when I play rhythm). I change the volume and tone knob all the time too (but not so much in this clip.

The amp is a Engl Sovereign 100 Vintage 210 (2x10" tube combo), an Alesis midiverb 4 (cheep stuff, but works great) in the effects loop with delay and a cry baby wah pedal (stock). That's it. All the gain (the whole sound, I would say) is in the amp itself. The guitar is my own MO Ibanez with DiMarzio Breed pickups. The settings on the amp are. Gain 5. Bas 9 Middle 7 Treble 3.5 Presence 4 Regards Magnus

Now that is a tuff question to answer :-) (Nevertheless, I take it as a compliment).

It is just an improvisation, first time I ever play solo over it, so I do not really know (and would not play it the same if I did it again). I guess I had the vocal melody in my head and sort of let build from there, using the melody as a guideline.
