  • Ive met him before in the American Karate tournament circuit. Richard is a nice guy. I had no idea he moved like this. LOL He was pretty good back in his day. :)

  • Absolutely incredible! That is a black belt kata! Straight back, solid strikes, deep stance.

  • zika

  • He is a really nice guy. I have met him before. He is my sensei's main sensei.

  • I "love" how a bunch of teenagers & a few 20 year old know-it-alls are commenting on how one of the most respected masters has poor technique.

Richard Rabago has been doing martial arts since maybe the late 1940's and holds black belts in both shotokan & shorin-ryu. Not sure what rank he held in the video, but he currently holds a 7th dan in shorin-ryu.

Before you comment on how someone is performing a kata incorrectly, remember that not every dojo does a single kata the same way!

  • he didnt move anywere? in shodan ur soposed to move..

  • Wow, and to think he never had a single lesson!

  • never seen a naihanshi shodan like that but having energy in a kata is good but the moves are made too fast you have to take your time to make the moves correcly and i don't say the moves are not good but some are still to practiss.

  • wow.... never seen it done like that before!!

  • @nidangerijodan My thoughts exactly.

  • its sad that people would comment with "poor technique" when they dont know what they are talking about....you can only appreciate this if you know the style of Shorin Ryu Karate.

  • @Keike3 agree just because its Naihanchi shodan kata desnt mean its Kempo etc every style does kata a little different

  • hi!

  • Good power, but seems like poor technique.

  • Wow you messed up alot my friend, thats 100 push ups. =)

  • Hmmm... the way my Academy practices it is a little different, I believe we have a different set of techniques from the second half of this Kata onward. The first half is nearly identical, otherwise.

  • Interesting way of performing Naihanchi. Thanks for uploadng

  • thats my teacher suckas

  • Mine too! :D

  • interesting speed but poor form

Some key points of this kata, at least in my dojo, are to keep the head level. Also, there is supposed to be lateral motion in the Naihanchi Shodan kata, not just standing still.

  • interesting performance

  • that was new!

  • ROFLcopter

  • A pause to show Balance.

    Grace to show Form.

    Footwork would be nice too.

  • very good version of this kata, strong ,performed well, fast, good hip power

  • I love my Sensei!
