@3abcd2 Ha! You should try the ACTUAL dragon quest games. So much better, but sadly no monster breeding until later games... Ah well, they are still awesome.

Same thing happened to me. I downloaded an emulator and a ROM file for it, and now I play Terry's Journey on my computer! :] You should try it.
