Correct as you are solids also conduct sound, so when he fires his gun the sound may be conducted through his rig as it covers his whole body.

Thermite is not an explosive, but rather an accelerant. When its set on fire, it burns HOT. Like plasma torch hot. It will melt through practically anything, but in this case, it would melt DOWN. It wouldn't blow a hole through the barrier, but rather have collectedin a pile of melted metal on the floor.

Bodies are always disappearing and reappearing in Dead Space: it's a device that helps keep the game from exceeding the available memory of the system, though I do wish it wasn't so blatant. They probably didn't refine it much because it's additional spookiness with no extra effort on the part of the developers. :)
