From what I know Friedrich Engels (co-founder of marxism) wrote a book called "The Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State" which is based on Karl Marx's notes.
From what I hear it is the cornerstone of Marxist anthropology, but I have not gotten around to reading it yet.
By no means. In order for Marx to understand capitalism he had to create a theory of history and social relations. To understand social relations he used a Hegelian dialectical approach and from there he formed his materialist interpretation of history.
So Marxism covers a Historical philosophy, a political philosophy and an economic philosophy,

You raise a good point about the dependency of some philosophical ideals (e.g. hegelian before social relations).
I'm curious, from what you've read did Marx apply the same method of dependency (see above) in relation to anthropology?
