i like ayaya's voice more but this version sounds better to me :/ this girl's amazing...she wrote the song, sang the song, and played the instrumental to this song :O
Both of these singers have different rendation of this song, and both of them give justice as well, these are few Japanese singers i admire coz of the sweetness of their voices.....
To be fair, Matsuura Aya's version sounds better simply because modern audio technology is much better at polishing the final product.
This is pure unrefined music. No mixers. No synthesizers. No software to correct your pitch. Much better, IMHO.
Besides, her recent live performance during FNS Kayousai 2009 trumps any of the H!P covers. She's still pretty at the age of 40 and her voice aged nicely.
Aya's is more polished & commercial but I think this version is more honest as it should be since she is singing her own song. To each his (or her) own. It's all good.
They don't have many singers like Chisato anymore~ and sadly when she came out with this song I was only a few months to a year old. (I was born December 10, 1992)
I think the only other singers I can apply in the same group as her, is probably Utada Hikaru, and Ueto Aya. And Takahashi Ai, and Abe Natsumi =]
@turtalako I also thought Aya was the original composer of this song. I happened to come across this version by chance. Glad I did. She's a wonderful singer and pretty, too.
i dont know matsuura's version but i love this one and momoko's so much...both voices are perfectly fitted for it and they sing with so much heart ... wonderful T___T
This song is a good example of how her songwriting skills improved later in her career. The bridge alone (no pun intended) is a masterful piece of work, much less the whole tune.
a huge fraction of japanese music by females today isn't of this quality anymore =(. they rely more on technology and instruments and not pure talent. gone are the days of doco, moritaka chisato, koizumi kyoko, and the prime years of sakai noriko and kudo shizuka.
I think you´re wrong about that. The quality is almost better right now, it´s more clean. Of course it´s a lot of technology and instruments but that´s what makes it almost magical. And if you listen to for example Miyavi, Aya matsuura, Utada hikaru and Ayaka live yu´ll see that there is pure talent even now.^^,
I do not know your age, but I think, you're right. I am 36 and the performers you have listed are now roughly of my age. Maybe they just made songs in the style we remember from our childhood? I love japanese songs, especially those performed by persons mentioned by you. And for me these songs are of much, much better quality than todays pop. Have you heard Ayaka Hirahara? I call her japanese Enya, but more beautiful (for me, i have a crush for pretty Japanese women ;-) ).
Moritaka Chisato is the ORIGINAL singer and writer of this song. This song was released in 1993, whereas Aya Matsuura remake of the song was done in 2004
Singing with the theoretically proper technique doesn't mean you aren't "singing from the heart", but this is still interesting and makes sense I guess.
Actually, singing from the diaphragm is proper, and I still sing from the heart even though I do. You can still sing from the diaphragm and sound nasally anyway. There are just too many vocal techniques to count, but the best ones are the ones that will not damage your voice! So if Chisato-san is not hurting her voice, why does it matter?
Chisato's version has a faster beat. I think they are both good. Aya has a sweeter voice though and her version sounds more modern. At the climax of the song they both sound weak. It doesn't sound as dramatic as it seems it should.
Hi thanks for your comment but I think I'll have to disagree with the climax part. I think the "weakness" is what make Chisato's voice and singing unique. But then I'm biased, heh...
la version de moritaka es la autentica, aunque es cierto que no le pone mucho sentimiento a la cancion...a mi me gusta mas la version de momoko, es mi berryz favorita, aunque aya no se queda atras..

She and Aya Matsuura belong same music company.' Up-Front Agency '
She wrote this song ,after walk along Watarase Bridge, and imagine separate lover. This version is little rough, but very emotional. I was touched.

Actually, most Japanese tend to sing like that because they sing naturally and from the heart, and not from the diaphragm, which is a Western method.
