  • To all the negative commentary below: Your icy hearts are pumping anti-freeze....

  • @mothermarymary

I thought this was really good.

  • you nay sayers outa get the sticks outta yer butts whether she's 76 or 26 she's GREAT in my book. When's the last time you had the COURAGE to stand up and sing or post sumthin in a public forum? Like to see you do it. And she's not my grandma either!!!!!!!!!

  • when she first start singing i was a bit disapponted but only because of the bad audio and as she sings on you can almost picture her with her eyes closed singing with all her heart, i loved it

  • sorry but to say she's 76 she isn't do bad with the singing so get over yourself's and if you think it's that bad then just don't watch it :) i miss my gran :( x

  • Bravo to Eric and Mary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I like the singing - its pure, like Clapton's acoustic guitarre

and if this video offends Eric Clapton, it's up to him to remove it, not yours JDMandsoon

  • Whether this lady is 76 or 26 makes no difference. This sham overdub is out of key, out of tempo and all around bad. I don't think Clapton would approve...

  • no offence but her voice sounds like someone singing in the shower ie:keep your day job type stuff

  • the lady in question is 76 and had just come out of hospital, she has several health problems and I wanted a reminder of her

  • No disrespect to Mary, but given that Clapton specifically states at the beginning of this video his reasons for NOT singing the song in this performance, I think it's pretty disrespectful toward him to sing over his playing in this video. It's not like you couldn't have found another instrumental version of it on here. It was awful when this was the only version on youtube, but now we have the original back and Clapton fans can enjoy it as he intended it. Take this one down.

  • No disrespect to you but this video was created for Mary and I certainly won't take it down just because you don't like it. I love Eric's music and when the original was removed, I've been asked by some people to post it to them and I did. By the way when I made the original track for Mary, it was only available in an mp3 format years ago. This video is only recent, and I combined the two, for Mary's family to enjoy it. I am sorry that you don't like it. Better stick to the original then.

  • I think the voice over lyrics actually ruined Eric's piece. Dreadful singing, sounds drunk. Someone repost Eric.

  • I do have the original, but I am not going to email it to you after your comments. The lady who sings it is my wife's mother, she is not drunk, and she is from Hebburn and she is 75. I doubt that you are in any position to comment on her singing so forget it!

  • GOD DAMN, i can't find the original video.

  • youtube has removed it, you should get used to downloading the videos with firefox plugings, most of my old favorite musics are getting taken down also.

  • it has been removed for some countries - especially Austria! grr! :)

  • The singing totally kills this video. Should have done what Clapton said and just left it with his playing. Clapton rules!

  • Thanks Psychoman, this video was created for the singing, not for the guitar playing. You can watch Clapton's video on it't own. E. C. is my favourite guitar player and he is one of the best, however in this video the main feature is Mary. Unfortunatelly I couldn't play the music to go with it, hence I had to borrow Eric's playing.

  • I don't know if you were being sarcastic or not, but I wasn't meaning to be disrespectful. Mary has a lovely voice, I was just saying that I feel this song is best justified with just Clapton's guitar, and it's sad that youtube took down the video of just him playing. I apologize if this offended you cause it was not my intent to do so.

  • Sorry man, I didn't know that they took off the video, I still got the one I've saved as an flv file, when it was stil on. I can email it to you, and you can play it with any flv player. I use Gom player.

    Let me know will you.

    Cservonyec.

  • Hey Got the original video? I would love it if you could email to me.

    Ed

  • you don't understand the song and how it has evolved in pub culture. this is quite fitting

  • Danny Boy is about the melody - Eric interprets that beautifully on the guitar and that is how he intended it.

there is nothing wrong obviously with sing this song per se - but this was a completed piece.

second of all - the singing is quite weak.

  • I dont think Danny boy is about the melody I think its about the lerics, and it has evolved into a staple family folk song so this is very apt. im not to keen on the guitar playing on this as its a bit basic.

I think the poster here was just looking for an instrumental to be sung over

The singing is good but not placed over the song properly.

  • Of course its about the melody.

the guitar playing is simple, rather than basic. It's also sublime.

And, like most people posting here, I think the singing is rubbish.

(and you mean lyrics not 'lerics')

  • I dont see how you can say Danny Boy is all about the melody, when it has such great lyrics. This version reminds me of one of those panpipe versions of the song.

  • Well this version is about the melody - taken from a program in the mid nineties all about the song, which I remember watching when it was broadcast.

As I said EC's treatemnt is sublime - and if you think its like Muzak then you have a tin ear and no taste.

  • Sorry Dasset1, I didn't realise that we have a serious expert here, I do think that Eric's playing is beautifully sublime and yet basic, and if I may add haunting, but I must disagree about the singing. I think it is absolutely fantastic and superb. She is from an era when they could actually sing.

  • oh my god.

for your next trick get down rthe Lourve and improve the Mona Lisa why don't you

  • I liked pretty much the nice job you did, lovely Mary..You're now on my favorites:-) Congrats.. Portugal..
