Congragulations Shinji, you just woke up and found yourself still inside Unit 01 as you are about to kill Lillith. :D IMO the TV ending was told through the chracters in their minds, all this could be happeninmg within EOE and the congragulations scene and Shinji accepting himself (and individual exsistences) caused him, or at least Eva 01 to kill Lillith an give birth to the sea of LCL where all strong willed lifeforms can re-emerge from it like Asuka and Shinji did (and possibly Rei too).

@Destructoid17 Unit 01 used the Lance of Longinus to kill Lillith, after bursting out from it's third eye. Remember Unit 01 uses the Lance to finish Lillith off while using the last of it's energy before dying alone with Lillith and the MP Evas.

But I don't think the original ending should be discarded either, I think the two endings tell the same, great, story from two different perspectives.

If connected to End of Evangelion IMO, right after the congragulations scene (and the photo showing the entire cast together, after they said their congragulations), that's when Lillith's throat gets slashed by Eva Unit 01, and individual exsistence returns to being. At least that's how I see it. :D

En cuanto al fin, yo tenía que preguntarme si fuera una representacíon abstracta del rechazo de Human Instrumentality por Shinji, o si Shinji hubiera caída en su propio mente y hubiera hecho un mundo nuevo en que él estaría contento. El segundo es lo que pensé originariamente. Esta canción suena optimistica, pero todavía es un represalia de una cancíon de engaño ingenioso, así como el anime sí mismo. Despues de todo, el capítulo úlitmo termina en un acorde menor.
