I'm glad to see Akira at the top. It's still mindblowing. I was also happy to see Grave of the Fireflies on the list. I think Ninja Scroll and Vampire Hunter D should've made an appearance, too, though :D.
if you notice for how old this anime is it looks outstanding i mean it was made in 1988.but there are some animes that are cool but not as cool as akira so nice dude its my favorite also
Akira didn't make sence and don't tell me that's because I need to read the manga because that's the point of a film. In my opinion and many others, the disappearence of haruhi suzumiya is the best anime film of all time with a hell of alot of people who have seen the series and the film agreeing with me and practically no one who has seen it saying it wasn't (unlike akira) were over half of people who saw it the first time round thought it was crap.
@southpark6524 but still the title of this video is labeled the greatest of all time, in a movie like spirited away or the disappearance of haruhi suzumiya you care about the characters involved and there is a deeper meaning to it all. but with akira i couldn't care less what happened to either assholes in the story and the only meaning i could dig out from that train wreck was stay in school. you won't end up killing everybody that way.
The scene where Tetsuo's girl gets caught in his pore while his body mutates, thus crushing her to death... left a foul taste in my mouth. The storytelling was vague and lazy and the characters were generic.
In the end, Akira is a colorful array of images played sequence with little explanation or coherence... the visual are all it had going for it and unfortunately the animation has aged to the point of looking like hamster vomit.... not a fan.
@diddymuck the Lupin movie was good but Cagliostro was better. ROD was so so. I hate the Ruroni Kenshin Franchise I thought Himura Kenshin was a pussy. FMA would have been #12 but it's called the top 10 and its OUR (CRAF's) 10p 10. Make your own list
@craftruth2009 soitenly! 10: Black Jack, TMP 9. Laputa 8. Metropolis 7. Harmagetten 6. Samurai X, Trust and Betrayal 5. Full Metal Alchemist, Return to Shamballa 4. R.O.D. 3. Lupin the Third, Island Of Assassins 2. Nausicca and the Valley of the Wind 1. Dagger of Kamui.
if you have read the manga... you see how different the stories are and how much they changed to shortened the length, I personally didn't like the film due to these changes... but that said it is a beautiful film which sucks you into the story, a must see for everyone, you should just read the manga after !!
It's true, as gargantuanly beautiful as it was, "Akira" the movie was definitely a compromise. Of course, Otomo realized early on that it had to be--there was just no way you could cram that enormous multi-leveled manga storyline into 2 hours. The movie had to stand on its own, and in its own "Blade Runner"/Kubrickian/cyberpunk way, it does, and very well.
...*cough castle in the sky is way awesome and deserves to be in the list cough*
