My favorite SG song. From the scratched guitar string beginning second measure (razor sharp), to the distorted, shaken vocals (Led Zep, Hats Off For (Roy) Harper), to the genius of harmonizing the lead guitar with the rhythm guitar during the breakdown @ 4:36.
Yes, Robin Trower is also all over that riff.
Also, following the theme of hanging, at 4:49, the guitar shredding is reminiscent of a person who just kicked the chair, has second thoughts, and panics as he hangs.
i've been listening to this album for a little while now, and compared to Badmotorfinger and Superunknown, Down on the Upside seems to have more meaning and passion and emotion in its lyrics than all of the other albums
This band is just pure magic, all the guys together made some of the most fantastic music I had the pleasure of listening to in my youth. I remember first buying this CD and being blown away at the range of different sounds from all the songs...so much that I still have it in pristine condition and jam out to it in my car :)
awesome song iam disappointed bout the dislike though somebody that doesnt know about a passsion of just beautiful art put together in a haunting wind of kick ass music chris cornell singing / kim thayil rippin away on the solo/then ben shepard on the most best bass i ever heard then matt cameron on the drums with the best beat ever .
all the songs on this album are just put together so beautifully....it would be a shame to call them songs....rather harmonious sounds! what a deep sound
@kushisaac absolutely, I thought I was the only one who heard that, ty for speaking on it. This song has so much special meaning to me, I lost my father right at this time so this music got to me in my core. If that makes any sense. Robin Trower was one of my father's fav rock music.
i was rocking out the badmotorfinger from back in the day, so i have a little more love for that album. i will tell you that when i was in the navy, this album was in the cd player as my alarm clock. along with some rage against the machine and temple of he dog. my barracks got pissed but i got a few converts in the process. kim thayil ftw!!!
I've forgotten just how under-rated and brilliant this album is.......it's quite unreal that an album like this can be released by a band and just piled on top of their other albums and not noticed for it's individuality and quality.

@zero88777 finally some appreciation for kim thayil! you, liek, never see cumments about him...it's all "omg chris" or "matty cameron pwns".
not like either is bad, but garden was made by all its members, not just the ones who play "popular" instruments.

The best & most underrated song on this album! You never hear this on the radio! Why? Because FM radio sucks, & the execs. don't know shit!
