Alex was the first driver that was dominant to such a degree in my sports-consciousness. Just watch the way he drives a CART car and the people who say "Oh, well he was rubbish in F1, therefore he is no good" are proven to be fools every time.
Alex was probably the best all around CART driver I ever saw, he just had the tremendous amount of driving talent & car control. His 1998 CART season I think was probably the most dominant in that series history. 19 races, 7 wins, 15 podium finishes, 3.8 finishing average
As a Bryan Herta fan I never was a true fan of Alex and even hated him at time. He was definitely one of the best during his time though and destroyed the competition again and again.
A true racer who never knew when he was beat. To those who witnessed the 1998 CART race at Long Beach where he won from a lap down.... tht just doesn't happen in a sprint race. Happy birthday Alex.
