Love the keyboards on this song. I'm a classic rock fan of the 60s and 70s, BUT I will always have a special place in my soul for this 80s music. By this time, I was really into clubbing, and this genre was great party music for dancing and clubbing.
@kotpet :During the eighties everything was lipsyncked on tv. Lower budgets as now. And for sure the 80's go into history as best musical decade ever. Original and experimantal. You wanna now where music went wrong ? Since music is all about the money. And that started with crappy hiphop, rap and stupid brainless dancemusic !!
I thought they were a cool new wave/pop band for the time. I knew they wouldn't last long(like most of the '80's bands) but I enjoyed 'em while they were here. Would like to find out what the members are up to now.

I'm only 18 years old, but I'm absolutely obsessed with 80's and early 90's music. My parents practically raised me on this stuff. This is REAL music, I can't stand the crap that students my age listen too.
@absolutionaryism I agree with u. I was also raised the same way :) my parents are good singers too and they're making some good music also ^_^ i love all the real music. 60s,70s,80s,90s, a few of the early 2000s were the best. Now... its all just... crud. i used to listen to lady g and rihanna, but when i listen to old stuff I'm like "man, all that crud needs to get out of here" If i ever have kids, I'm teaching them the real music.
My god does this song take me back to the mid-1980s. I remember hearing this on the radio many times. Always remembered it. Too good a song to forget! And dig the hair!
Oh my gosh, such great music. One of their best. I wish us teens had music like this today, and be creative without being laughed at. Now everyone looks the same, same stupid justin beiber haircuts, rap music that nearly every song sounds the same to me. I hope if I ever have kids, their generation can at least be not as bad as the generation I'm in. [ I'm 14, by the way]
This was the first 7" single I ever bought, aged 10. (Although I bought Super Trooper by Abba in 1979 aged 5/6, Breakout in 1982 for my 9th birthday and NOW1 in 1983, when I went halves with my sister because it cost £6.99.) I was obsessed with the instrumental bit in Doctor Doctor (2:28-3:00, particularly at 2:42 and 5:58) and I used to move the needle back to the start of it several times before being told off by my mum.
that's why Owner Of A Lonely Heart - Yes Karma Chameleon" Culture Club Jump" Van Halen Footloose" Kenny Loggins Against All Odds" Phil Collins Hello" Lionel Richie Let's Hear It For The Boy" Deniece Williams Time After Time" Cyndi Lauper The Reflex" Duran Duran When Doves Cry" Prince Ghostbusters" Ray Parker, Jr. What's Love Got To Do With It" Tina Turner Missing You" John Waite Let's Go Crazy" Prince I Just Called To Say I Love You" Stevie Wonder Caribbean Queen" Billy Ocean Wake Me Up.." Wham!
i kiss u then and u said u would come and be with me, dance with me across the see, where we can feel the motion of a million dreams
its at night, ull leave b4 the morning light, please dont go, i dont want to stay here on my own, so dr ddr, must find a doctor if cant get my lover to burn with me.
Is it " Doctor, Doctor " can't you see I'm Vernon, Vernon or "Doctor, Doctor " can't you see I'm burnin' burnin' ? Listen carefully to the lyrics to decide yourself.
OR IS THAT JIMMY PAGE GUY IN CAMP DISGUISE AGAIN ?
I was walking around my local supermarket when this song come over the loudspeaker. Everyone in that shop was singing along to this, very surreal and I will never forget it.
Music/fashion in the 80s was quality but everything else fucking sucked, Maggie Thatcher fucking up everything, no internet, no hd and no mobile phones but to be honest I wouldn't miss mobile phones to be honest :O)
The 80s was the ultimate time for music; the absolute freedom to create sound, and people like ourselves are still held captivated by it. There weren't any rules in that era, and I for one am a product of, and proud of, everything that was the 80s in music.
This song still sends a shiver up my spine after all these years. Great stuff. Yet I've seen an interview where the band members dismiss their music as worthless tosh. They were wrong! I'll probably never get sick of listening to this song.
Agree. I wish I can go back in time to the 80s. Thompson Twins, Depache Mode, Howard Jones, Crowded House, Bananarama, Culture Club, Duran Duran, plus so many one-hit wonders... real music that today's music isn't anywhere close to in quality...
1984 RULES!! Young at 17 and still the best year of my life. Great music, friends and the Western World was in the middle of the cold war. I think a lot of the music from the 80's stems from the strife/conflict of the cold war. Live and have fun....are they gonna drop the bomb or not...forever young!! TOTP were very much a part of that feeling.
The breaking of the mining industry broke lots of other things and we are paying for it now because we've lost most of our industrial base and the service sector went down the toilet in the depression, sorry, recession.
feb 84....this came out the month b4 we went on strike(miners strike).....best year of my life......young free single(and an xr3)no money........but great times...clubbin in newcastle..whitley bay...houghton.....
And waht a strike it was eh? Changed the country for sure - some good some bad. I was a big younger but I remember my mum & dad on strike to support the miners - music takes you right back eh mate...
Never mind the twat commentator about them not 'smiling' - this great music and this great band made me smile, and that's not a false TV smile either.
I didn't realise it at the time, but '80s songs had a totally different structure and pace from songs before or after. They seem somehow very basic, but nonetheless inspired by a bolder place than today's bland offerings.
Oooooohhh!!!! A Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 rev3! What a synth! The sounds of this era are wonderful - they put so much mor thought into the tracks than they do today, 25 years later :o( God I feel so old now.....
Thompson Twins "a product of" still remains a favourite album. The raw side of a group who became very very polished as thier career progressed. Almost entirely precussive and rhythmic.
Agree with all the sentiments expressed here. One of the most percussive bands of all time. I saw them play live in 1986 and it was an immense privilege. Still one of the finest bands of the finest decade ever, the eighties.
Was 15 when this was out. All the music from back then sounds much better on modern equipment. Fab tunes back then but you didnt really notice at the time... Now u do.
@mrsdaipunk music, fashion, art is so shit now compared with the 80s. now when i walk round london its so fuckin boring compared to the 80s. everyone here looks like a clone white trainers/sweatpants gross!
@ignaciomarley I couldn't have said it better myself hun.... 80's ROCK! The music of today is allot of shite... and don't even get me started on them useless buggers copying tunes/songs etc... it's cos they don't have any imagination of their own!
@ignaciomarley shame we cant live in the past but i think every decade needs its own identity, even though the 80s was briliant it has unfortunatly gone....
I'm sure there was the original video on this Tube, but, please, is there any doctor in the audience who can heal me from the lack of The Thompson Twins, I was an adolescent who grew with their great songs in the eighties, is there a remedy doctor ?
ahh this brings back memories of when Micheal Jackson burnt his hair and at school the joke was "what song does micheal jaskson sing after his burnt his hair.... Doctor Doctor.. can't you see I'm burning.." ahh.. to be 11 again!
Get well soon

No decade will ever compare to the 80's, I miss those days and the classic songs that today's generation will never come close to copying

@ignaciomarley I couldn't have said it better myself hun.... 80's ROCK! The music of today is allot of shite... and don't even get me started on them useless buggers copying tunes/songs etc... it's cos they don't have any imagination of their own!

@ignaciomarley shame we cant live in the past but i think every decade needs its own identity, even though the 80s was briliant it has unfortunatly gone....

not only is this the TT's best song but this might be one of the most underrated tunes of the 80s

I'm sure there was the original video on this Tube, but, please, is there any doctor in the audience who can heal me from the lack of The Thompson Twins, I was an adolescent who grew with their great songs in the eighties, is there a remedy doctor ?
