Sounds like an American stigma. They're both great bands; Roxy Music is my favorite British band, but no one's heard of them in the States. Everyone's heard of 'The Floyd'...
@yesman61 Let's put it this way. Most people who like Pink Floyd don't know Yes music whereas those who like Yes know Pink Floyd very well. Simply Ignorance.
@yesman61 Probably because Floyd are pessimistic, and Yes are optimistic. Pessimism is usually seen as "cool", and optimism as "dopey" by tastemakers. It is all a bit silly. I'm a pessimist who loves both bands, actually, and since musically they are nothing alike I'd say even comparing them is a mistake of music writers everywhere.

Yes 'Drama'... an AMAZING 'album' indeed! My, how rock music has 'fallen' since the 70's and 80's! The best years of rock were the 60's through the 80's hands down!
Drama musically was not as good as anything Rabin did. Where it was dead-on-arrival was not having Anderson, but that faggotty 'Radio killed the video star' Buggles singer.
Perhaps, but there were some incredible 'shining moments' on 'Drama' like 'Tempus Fugit' and 'Does It Really Happen', which were stellar songs. 'The Buggles' singer wasn't THAT bad, and wasn't he heterosexual anyway (not that it should matter)?
I agree, I think the album falters mid way through, but those shining moments really are shining moments, and should be considered greats along with the likes of Roundabout, Siberian Khatru et al.
It always make be laugh when the Buggles get called 'faggots' or 'gheys'.
Funnily enough, no-one seems to drop these comments beneath the numerous 'Heat of the Moment' videos doing the rounds.
"That faggotty" Buggles singer - Trevor Horn - produced 2 of the 3 Rabin Yes albums, the ones that went platinum, namely 90125 and Big Generator. If you listen to the 90125 demos - which suck - you'll discover that Horn is the genius who made the albums great. The 3rd and final Rabin Yes album - Talk - was produced by Trevor Rabin. It flopped so badly it caused the bankruptcy of the record company, and Rabin was fired by the band.

I saw DreamTheater once when they opened for YES. Many DT and old YES fans weren't familiar with the other. DT were technically very impressive but emotionally and creatively YES music conquered. They were the real artist/professors. DT were like the A students of the class
I like the way you put it, wigginsdesign. It is amazing how many stupid people place comments all over Youtube in their narrow way of perceiving things, especially about musicians and bands - no appreciation of personal qualities, they just perceive it as just a stupid mortal kombat game...
Agreed. In fact, Dream Theater on that tour humbly modified their entire show- because they are great guys. They could have spent 4 hours crushing the much-older Yesmen into the soil- and the bands are 1-2 on my list all time.
A little too slow to be a personal favourite DT song, but it's good none the less. Still can't beat songs like Under A Glass Moon, Raise The Knife Another Won. Octavarium or Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulance.
Yea, true. But it's way before all those (isn't it a cover?)- they still had the guy with short hair when short hair wasn't cool (can't remember his name) on keyboard. Rare footage this, he only played with DT for about one tour to my knowledge.
I saw them with Yes back in '04 in Phoenix. I wasn't all that impressed but I do remember them playing the opening instrumental to this song and that's it. Wasn't bad either.
Very good, thats leading up to where the vocals kick in, and i'm curious if they sing it, and if so who does? thats a real nice find either way, It just goes to show that when music is made that well you can plug in a keyboard player, bass player, and drummer and let Steve Howe do his thing.
I don't think they did the vocal part. This was at a fan club gig at Ronnie Scott's jazz club in England. DT played a bunch of covers, with a lot of different guests, including Steve Howe, Barney Greenaway of Napalm Death and Steve Hogarth and Steve Rothery of Marillion. The medleys from the "A change of seasons" EP were recorded at this gig. Some of the footage can be seen on Dream Theater's "5 years in a LIVEtime video".

One of the greatest Yes songs ever written! Sad shame that the self-proclaimed god Jon A. refused to ever perform it!

I saw them with Yes back in '04 in Phoenix. I wasn't all that impressed but I do remember them playing the opening instrumental to this song and that's it. Wasn't bad either.

I'm completely blown away! DT and Steve Howe. Then, a track from the rather obscure Drama album. Such a rare gem could've only been found on YouTube.
