  • This is possibly the coolest clip that I have ever seen.

  • where did you get this?

  • This is pretty unique. On de audio commentary from Five Years In A LIVEtime Portnoy says that Startship Trooper with Howe was just a final part of a medley, which included Machine Messiah. It`s great to finally watch this, how did you get it ?

  • Where the hell is the rest of this footage?? I can't believe how good this section is ... they've transformed what was originally a somewhat lackluster song into, quite literally, the most menacing piece of Yes-prog I've ever heard.

  • yes, derek sherinian on keys, well known now in planet X !

  • i think it might or could be the spiritual which is femeine and don't get me wrong david gilmour is a close second to steve, yes is more layed back, they prob. wont get their dooes until they die.

  • Dt are one of the best bands ever.and the fact that they play other bands music so well its amazing,i think it´s nice to see Steve Howe and Petruci side by side playing.

    long live DTand YES.

  • Man, i'm with u, "TheWhiteKingofRock"!!! Steve Howe and Yes, however, are the BEST!!!!

  • Steve Howe with Roland Amp with Dream Theater??? :))))

  • @TheWhiteKingOfGod for christ sakes move out of your parents basement and get a girlfreind

  • i like seeing howe having to pay attention n not f*** up haha

  • yayh I like the fact That DT is playing HIS song not theres..ha ha ..

  • @klnine Why would he have to pay attention?! It's his song, you dimwit!!!

  • Where's the full video?

  • best track off of drama.

This is a prog lover's wet dream seeing howe and DT jamming this song..never in my wildest dreams. thanks for posting this!

  • The fun here are that DT are doing there stuff an Steve Howe are trying to blend in!

I think Steve Howe are the best guitar player ever!! His bisarre beat, does it!

  • Yeah but dude you don't understand the vernaculars of the riffs these guys are playing and the effervescent and quintessential flow of harmonies blah blah blah blah!

In other words, I agree with you one trillion percent! LoL

great musicians but um snooze fest city!

  • Wow congratulations you "super DT fan" you just don't realize that Yes is one of DT's favorite groups and bigger influences.. asshole

  • lol they skipped the psychedelic verse and went on to the keyboard part. i loved the verse.

  • This is Dream Theater as Derek Sherinian is on the Keys. Majesty were earlier with Kevin Moore on Keys and Charlie Dominici on lead vocals.

  • plus petrucci didnt have his sig ibanez in majesty days

  • This Majesty not DT I think, Theyre the same except that DT has Jordan Ruddess and James Labrie and I dont remember who was keyboard and vocals in Majesty.

  • Nah it's DT. I have a video tape of this session and LeBrie is with them.

For the most part it all sounds thrown together last minute. Not too exciting but it's nice to see generations converge.

All awesome musicians in their own right.

  • Two of my faves...

    playing together...

    soo cooool!!!

  • Great Song! Steve Howe = Legend!

  • Yeah, but the audio is so bad I hate it. I have another MP3 verson that is much better, wish I could post... Sorry.

  • WOW!!! Where's the full version?!?!?!

  • good to see this song getting some deserved credit!!!

  • great bands like great bands

    Dream theater and Yes rule!!!!

  • SEASONS OF MAN!! :D

    i love this song!!!

  • In all the many Yes, ABWH, Asia, and solo shows I have seen Steve Howe in, I don't think I have ever seen him having this much fun.

  • Yes>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.dream theater

  • Wow! Never seen this before.

  • I think he's playing his 14.5 string bass in this clip.

  • Cover?

when a person plays his own music is a cover?

    O_O"

please, remove yourself from here O_O"

  • Yes, this is a cover of machine messiah by Yes... steve howe it isn´t Yes, only a member... can you understand that?

  • Yes, I can, but he composed the music... I don't think fair to consider that a cover, I'd consider that just a version... but never a cover...

and youtube is full of shit... why does a person want to remove a Yes music video?

  • "they" composed the music, not he . Are you forgetting the other 80% of the band ?

YES would consider this a cover .

I've seen Howe do a Yes song or two while performing with ASIA, are you saying that was YES ?

This is Dream Theater with special guest ! And Dream Theater is doing a cover of machine messiah. Simple !

  • nah they so ain't/

  • I agree with you. Thumbs down weeeeeeeeeeeee.

  • One must always keep in mind that when a band like Yes began in the 60's modern music had a very small range of diversity, By the time bands like Dream Theater were around they had so much more material to draw inspiration from... These are two bands from two totally different eras and trends etc....

There similarities are one in the same however originality in music conquers all. Yes, would be considered the kings and bands like dream theater their proteges, trying to keep the music alive

  • put it this way dream theater are great, but they have never written anything as good as close to the edge by yes.

  • check out octavarium then

  • i respect that, dream theater are, as i said, great, but nowhere near as good as yes.

check out tales from topographoc oceans....

  • i have. check out six degrees of inner turbulence, the forty two minute song

  • dude i respect your opinion, and it's not the length of a song that matters it's intricity etc does. tale from topographic oceans is one song in four parts...so if you are competeing on length yes win.

i love both bands...i just think yes are one step ahead. especially lrically.

  • Technically, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence is a bunch of songs linked together. Almost like a concept album, except in the form of a song. It's kinda complicated, but if you take the time to listen to it, then you'll understand.

  • Why is it cool to like Pink Floyd But not YES?

  • @yesman61 I guess because Pinl Floyd taught us that we need no education and also thought control! :)

Yes is very very cool, their song writings didn't appeal to common music listeners, very unconventional I should say.

  • Sounds like an American stigma. They're both great bands; Roxy Music is my favorite British band, but no one's heard of them in the States. Everyone's heard of 'The Floyd'...

  • @yesman61 Let's put it this way. Most people who like Pink Floyd don't know Yes music whereas those who like Yes know Pink Floyd very well. Simply Ignorance.

  • @yesman61

cause pink floyd are mainstream, threfore a trend!

I can enjoy some of floyds songs but I personaly dislike them.

Yes are so much "better" and prove that progressive doesnt mean sad, miserable or evil . It can be happy furius chaotic, magic, and nostalgic.!!

  • James LaBrie is too broadway for me. and I agree about Yes having an organic quality (VDGG,The Nice , pre and Then There wer 3Genesis) that most Prog acts couldn't achieve (DT, post 1977 Rush ) Chops does not the band make.

  • Cool. I just wish there was more of the song...

  • Oh and Rick Wakeman was fuckin'really good too.2005?

  • I seen Yes about 2004 Australia, then DT 'bout 2007 Aus,...G3 was Great 2006?...We Want More!!! Better than this "God Mother" SHIT!!! Sometimes i really hate Aussie music.

  • I like Dream Theater much better like this!

  • Well, where is the Mr. Head Lines....

    Trevor Horn!!!

    But... The Yamaha's Bass!

    High Stuff!

  • Steve Howe can still play guitar way better than you LicensetoDrool

  • And that hip hop garbage you probably listen to isn't gonna last much longer. It's on its way out though it may not seem apparent. But it will be gone because IT SUCKS. Get over it.

  • in some way Dream Theater is the new Yes.

well not really, but maby someone can understand me : )

  • I think I understand you, cuz Yes was the best of their time and Dream Theater is the best of now

  • dream theater may be the new "yes" but yet in terms of musicality DT fails in comparison to yes........dont know if you understand :)

  • you must be on crack...

  • YES is one of my favorite bands and all, but Dream Theater is by far my favorite. Just because their music doesn't touch you on a level that it touches others (or me for that matter), that doesn't mean they're terrible and gross.

  • I apologize for spreading that negativity. Obviously this video is posted for Dream Theatre fans and it's lame for me to put that kind of stuff up here.

Different stuff for different tastes, I need to keep that in mind.

    Take care.

  • When Dream Theater appeared the old progressive bands were out. DT were influenced by them, not to mention that ex-Gentle Giant Derek Schulman was producing them at ATCO...

  • steve howes taking them to school

  • WHERE'S THE REST!!! OH MAN, if only they would play Machine Messiah on the new tour... If only, this is prolly Steve greatest work right here. His venture into a heavy sound and oh so sweet.

  • Who asked you, License to Drool? You're probably just a rappin, hip hoppin' idiot! You obviously don't know ANYTHING about REAL music!

  • Actually, we all should be thankful LicenseToDrill hates this music. Imagining liking what he likes.

  • hey license ToDrill or is it "ToDrool". I will assume that you don't know music or if you do you just have a bad taste. But it's ok coz' there's no accounting for taste. Just try to respect what other people like. I mean not everybody in this planet are as stupid as you. So if you don't like what you're hearin', GET THE FUNK OUT!.

  • Opinions maybe one thing, but you are a no-nothing FOOL, hiding in a cowardly manner behind your anonymous keyboard on the anonymous internet. DUUHH...

The fact you even checked this out means that at least you are curious. But allow people their musical loves and we'll allow you yours. Otherwise, just piss off, man. :(

  • What is really gay is this shit you´re doing. If you want to get into a real fight, try to do this in somebody´s face, man, and asume the consequences.

Either way, you should get a psychiatrist.

  • My TWO fav bands together..AND ALSO saw them togethr in London Ontario Canada...there is a god!!

  • WHAT IS THIS FROM?

I need to know! I want to see this concert so bad!

  • Is this DVD available??

    please aneswer

  • Yeah it's a double disc. They play A change of seasons and then all the cover songs they did in this small club. They play this and Starship Trooper...the only ones I know for sure off the top of my head. Check Dream Theaters DVD's and it will be packaged with Once and a Livetime I believe.

  • Yes 'Drama'... an AMAZING 'album' indeed! My, how rock music has 'fallen' since the 70's and 80's! The best years of rock were the 60's through the 80's hands down!

  • Drama musically was not as good as anything Rabin did. Where it was dead-on-arrival was not having Anderson, but that faggotty 'Radio killed the video star' Buggles singer.

  • Perhaps, but there were some incredible 'shining moments' on 'Drama' like 'Tempus Fugit' and 'Does It Really Happen', which were stellar songs. 'The Buggles' singer wasn't THAT bad, and wasn't he heterosexual anyway (not that it should matter)?

  • I agree, I think the album falters mid way through, but those shining moments really are shining moments, and should be considered greats along with the likes of Roundabout, Siberian Khatru et al.

It always make be laugh when the Buggles get called 'faggots' or 'gheys'.

Funnily enough, no-one seems to drop these comments beneath the numerous 'Heat of the Moment' videos doing the rounds.

  • "That faggotty" Buggles singer - Trevor Horn - produced 2 of the 3 Rabin Yes albums, the ones that went platinum, namely 90125 and Big Generator. If you listen to the 90125 demos - which suck - you'll discover that Horn is the genius who made the albums great. The 3rd and final Rabin Yes album - Talk - was produced by Trevor Rabin. It flopped so badly it caused the bankruptcy of the record company, and Rabin was fired by the band.

    Moron. And insecure homophobe.

  • I don't think he is afraid of homos.

  • I saw DreamTheater once when they opened for YES. Many DT and old YES fans weren't familiar with the other. DT were technically very impressive but emotionally and creatively YES music conquered. They were the real artist/professors. DT were like the A students of the class

  • I like the way you put it, wigginsdesign. It is amazing how many stupid people place comments all over Youtube in their narrow way of perceiving things, especially about musicians and bands - no appreciation of personal qualities, they just perceive it as just a stupid mortal kombat game...

  • Agreed. In fact, Dream Theater on that tour humbly modified their entire show- because they are great guys. They could have spent 4 hours crushing the much-older Yesmen into the soil- and the bands are 1-2 on my list all time.

  • Dream Theatre crush Yes? Ha Ha hilarious. Yes is well beyond that metal prog wannabe band.

  • heavymetallers

  • Great song from the quite underrated, and, indeed, excellent "Drama". Great to see together the teacher and the pupils, great cover, Yes!

  • awesome stuff.

  • great footage...great song...

  • great to see old master of music mixing it up a bit with the new. music is the transatlantic international language. may we all enjoy great music

  • there must have been a reason for Him not to perform it, was rick taken back too, Socrates?

  • wow con Dream theater!! wow!!!!!!

  • Woah, this a old and nice song, I like it!. Old DT concerts.. yeah!.

  • I absolutely agree with Vladthe emailer!!!

This song was written by Steve Howe and it should be included in the next Yes LP with Jon.

  • A little too slow to be a personal favourite DT song, but it's good none the less. Still can't beat songs like Under A Glass Moon, Raise The Knife Another Won. Octavarium or Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulance.

  • Yea, true. But it's way before all those (isn't it a cover?)- they still had the guy with short hair when short hair wasn't cool (can't remember his name) on keyboard. Rare footage this, he only played with DT for about one tour to my knowledge.

  • his name was derrek sherranian (spelling?)

abd yes it is a cover

    "Machine Messiah" by Yes

one of the most evil sounding songs ive ever heard, check out the original

  • One of the greatest Yes songs ever written! Sad shame that the self-proclaimed god Jon A. refused to ever perform it!

  • Did he? Damn

  • oh man, break my heart before I go to bed. sniff sniff

  • God bless them all!

  • I saw them with Yes back in '04 in Phoenix. I wasn't all that impressed but I do remember them playing the opening instrumental to this song and that's it. Wasn't bad either.

  • DT is a big shit.

  • bullshit

  • i'm truly blessed, my ears know what candy tastes like

  • Did you say Barney?

  • 1ths and 15th ans 9ths gawd kill me now i have lysergized god

  • Absolutely amazing!

  • All of them standing in line: All Of them waiting on time!

  • show me the strength of your singular eye

  • I'm completely blown away! DT and Steve Howe. Then, a track from the rather obscure Drama album. Such a rare gem could've only been found on YouTube.

  • Very good, thats leading up to where the vocals kick in, and i'm curious if they sing it, and if so who does? thats a real nice find either way, It just goes to show that when music is made that well you can plug in a keyboard player, bass player, and drummer and let Steve Howe do his thing.

  • I don't think they did the vocal part. This was at a fan club gig at Ronnie Scott's jazz club in England. DT played a bunch of covers, with a lot of different guests, including Steve Howe, Barney Greenaway of Napalm Death and Steve Hogarth and Steve Rothery of Marillion. The medleys from the "A change of seasons" EP were recorded at this gig. Some of the footage can be seen on Dream Theater's "5 years in a LIVEtime video".

  • petrucci and howe does it get any better?

  • whos the keyboarder?

  • Derek Sherinian.

  • Oh my god!!

please post other videos of steve and dream theater together if you have them, or if you know where they are please tell me, id be really grateful!!!

    thank you!

  • Steve Howe, the magician of the guitars with Dream Theater.A perfect combination!
