Saw these guys for the 2nd time last night in the Rapids Theatre. They were recording the show for a DVD. The Lamb in its entirety. I liked them better this time than the first time I saw them.
I've seen The Musical Box twice, and it is absolutely stunning how accurately they reproduce the PG era genesis shows. Their level of detail is impossible to match in every way. having said that, this is a damn fine rendition of a very difficult song to pull off! I would go see the Waiting Room in a hot minute.
It's one thing getting the notes right, another thing entirely getting the tone, feel, and overall vibe right. They nailed it there!
Has anyone seen The Musical Box. I've heard they're supposed to be very good as well, but I'm seeing alot of positive comments about Waiting Room - which, after watching some vids, I agree with. However, how does Musical Box (Canada) compare???
The Waiting Room is a great New York local tribute act, don't get me wrong. But let me put it to you this way:
The Musical Box is more Genesis than Genesis.
They recreate their live shows from the set lists right down to the brand of guitar strings. If you get the opportunity to see them, DO IT. I will be going to see them at the Riviera Theater in February myself.
If it isn't a ProSoloist, it's a best imitation I've ever heard. The tone, Portamento and slow vibrato. It's all there. I always complain about Genesis tribute bands who are excellent except for the keyboard sounds. This keyboarder just nails it. It's about the goosebumps! One single oscillator and it goes under your skin! A Minimoog would sound plain wrong for this stuff.
i have seen every tribute band. twr BLOWS away the competition. video is dark. these guys will kick your ass back into the 70's! a serious band you cannot see just once. you will tell your friends. enjoy the waiting. this band has it all.
Wow. These guys developed absolutely perfect guitar and keyboard timbres to match that authentic '70s gear, even Tony B's awesome minimoog 'portamento' timing! Thanks for the clip! Oh, and the singer has got to have the identical genetically matching 'throat' DNA of our ol'buddy, the divine luminous Saint Gabriel. haha! Excellent work guys!
It sounded too clean to be the soloist. Sounds exactly like the Arp Quadra to me. Listen to the 3 sides live version and you'll see what I mean. It more then likely though a virtual synth using an Arp preset. And your right, Tony never used the mini moog, only the polymoog which he never toured with.
Thanks for the comment! They are a great band. Did you ever see "No Camouflage" who did great Genesis covers back in the 80's and early 90's? Another fav of mine!
Unfortunately I was using my digital camera and only had 20 minutes on my memory card. So I only have an excerpt. Next time I will bring my camcorder. The quality will be better also. Sorry!
come back to Mexico City!!! sincerely Fernando.

That MUST be a Pro Soloist! If not, what is it?

I'm not in the band, so I'm not sure what type of keyboards he uses.

The mini moog simply isn't Genesis. When I think of Genesis I think of Arp synths, the Hammond Organ, the Melotron and the Prophet 5/10.

Could be a Quadra.

I hate to be so picky but Banks didn't use a MiniMoog. It was an ARP Pro Soloist. I think The Waiting Room just bought one.

I saw Genesis in 1978--Tony Banks DID use his Polymoog live--at least for that tour!
