  • I disagree. This video is pretty cool in that it shows a zen-like presence in fishing slow and simple and close. No big loopy casts, he really does't even need a reel, and the rod and line are like an extension of himself and represent a peaceful one-ness with the river. The snow and houses in the background are interesting in that they do not distract form the focus and serenity of the fishing. This guy is in tune with the water and the fish in his simple, gentle presentation. kthxbai.

  • I agree in some part, but would substitute 'Zen like presence' with mechanical manoeuvres . Yes i also question whether a reel is needed, a pole with elasticated tip will do for this style. Or just any lightweight rod that is matched to 'tippet' strength and distance with these weighted flies. Also why would a fly line be needed? At least it is unnecessary, only a few inches out of the tip ring, at worse it falls back through the rod rings! Bemused! Is it just me?
