I wonder if Hollywood is capable of making a movie about a black man where the theme isn't his blackness. That is racist in its own way. When Ernie Davis was alive I didn't think of him as black or white - of course I knew he was black - but I just thought of him as a great football player. I wish he could be remembered for that and for being a good person rather than for being a political symbol.
@dcspaced The "Ice Bowl" was important because the extreme cold affected the game. The racially charged atmosphere of his time is a vital element in understanding the significance of Ernie's accomplishments. You can't understand the whole truth of his life without including it. It is not racist to include it. It is sanitized denial to omit it.
I'm not very liberal but I always rooted for Ernie Davis. I saw him play against Army at Yankee Stadium back in 1959 or 60. i was very sad when he died. I am moved that he is still remembered, if he is just being used as a political propaganda tool that is an insult to his memory. There are lots of racists in Hollywood, but they don't realize they're racists until their limo driver asks for a raise.
No, no you have got it all wrong. The saying goes, "There are only two different type of people in this world, those from TEXAS and those who WISH they were." Also, as unfortunate as it is racism existed back then and still exists today all across the U.S. not just in TX.
People who say they hate Texas are stupid. I agree Ernie Davis was amazing, and it was terrible what Texas did. But you cannot blame us for our relatives douche-being
