  • I love all the covers they're doing!!!

  • I wish they'd sing life on mars on it's own, I love it so much !!!!!

  • Who'd have thought English guys in suits could be so sexy.

  • using a plectrum on ukulele..... BLASPHEMY!!!

  • The bassist sings better than the real vocalist (of UOGB).

  • @drakonimetal what exactly do you mean the "real vocalist"?

  • @drakonimetal There is no real vocalist - they all sing.

  • Marvellous musical performance and the satire is too good to believe.

  • I stumbled upon this a couple of years ago whilst looking for the alternative ending to the BBC TV series 'Life on Mars' It has led me to such obscure locations as Llandudno and Warwick to catch the 'Ukes' But every now and then I just have to return to this clip on Youtube, their classic and unique interpretation. Thanks guys!

  • Looks a bit like John Simm.... Irony?

  • The true is that the original songs are cover songs of UOBC

  • Amazing!

  • Amazing! But why Crafter Bass, but no Kala U Bass ?

  • @CEBEPRHE a bass guitar just sounds better I think. And the group still call it a 'bass ukulele', but only as a joke.

  • @athull08 he should just tune it as an ukulele and it’s a bass ukulele :D

  • @MUZZER94 No it is not, it is nothing of the sort.

  • Jonty Bankes ...

  • Just sat here and waited for the strings and drum roll to kick in. Who'd've thunk ukeleles and 1971 Bowie would mesh together like Wayne Rooney's hairpiece?

  • B E A U T I F U L !

  • @revyx3 me to. i love him

  • Absolutely brilliant. These guys are sensational.

  • I'm not sure if I am ok with them playing a Bowie song, nirvana is ok, but this is them testing their limits.

  • @gcollin75 bowie LOVES the Ukes

  • tbh the ukulele orchestra should make this a single and see how it epically becomes a no.1

  • they just proved that david bowie is indeed a genius!!!

  • @pinoyblues69 Of course he is!

  • Does no one hear the hilarious laugh in the beginning after the plagiarism speech?

  • 2:37 Beautiful.

  • @mclineohio So when did they amputate your sense of humour?

  • These guys were on Skins playing True by Spandau Ballet.

  • A wonderful combination of musical skill and humour.

  • Fabulous, love it

  • I honestly think this version is better than te original, these guys are amazing

  • Brilliant.

  • Up until 1:45 this is possibly the most epic song ever performed.

I still like the second half but less so.

  • Wow, Thank you. I love all members in the orchestra. Its so wonderful when explorin such amazing group like this. Thanks for ur share. <3

  • Does anyone knows his name ? Or name of all the orchestra ?

  • @BaoBao111189

The guys name is Jonti Banks.

They have their own website. Look them up. All their names are listed.

  • @BaoBao111189 He's Jonty Bankes.

Left to right: David Suich (pronounced "Such"), Peter Brooke-Turner, Hester Goodman, George Hinchliffe, Kitty Lux, Will Grove-White, Jonty Bankes.

There's normally an 8th member, Richie Williams, who sits between George and Kitty.

  • wow, he's so great with pretty face and sensitive voice. . <3

  • I CAN'T STOP WATCHING THIS!!!

  • Wow he can really hit that note too.

  • Saw them on Glasgow on monday. Adored it. This was my second fav track they did. Jonty is just amazing! Even Bowie can't sing it like this any more.

  • Saw them on Glasgow on monday. Adored it. This was my second fav track they did. Jonty is just amazing! Even Bowie can't sing it like this any more.

  • I am just back from the orchestra's Glasgow gig. What a great night. Outstanding performances from all concerned.

If you haven't seen them live, do so!

  • It's so original !!! I've listened many times and everytime I try to listen just one of the voices, and is not easy, but is fantastic how in just/only a song, you can play so many others... Sorry, my English is not too good and I can't explain what I feel...

  • Saw them at Liverpool early May 2011 - BRILLIANT - all of them are stars.

  • Ironically Bowie apparently based this song's chord sequence on the song "Comme D' Habitude",which he first tried to translate from the French original.Instead they used Canadian singer/songwriter Paul Anka to write the lyrics, and came up with the song we all know and love "My Way".

  • @randybullcow That is exactly why Jonty said "this is a song about plaigarism" ;)

  • *quiet

  • @bnipmnaa Funny you should say that because someone that I was with said the bass was too quite but I found that if you actually listened for it you could hear it. I also think it would be missed if it wasn't there but i'm not sure. I thought his whistling was amazing!

  • @Destination3G you should look here: .uogbfans.de

  • I went to see them at Leeds town hall 12th may, loved it so much and i loved this cover when they played it :)

  • @ForgottenMole: I thought they played this song slightly too slow on 12th May in Leeds. And the bass was too quiet throughout the concert... but that's just being picky, 'twas still a good gig :-)

  • I was at Edinburgh too. They were brilliant there. Fantastic how they turned a crowd of sceptics to their side.

  • @Destination3G Jonty is the bassist who's singing. Found out who they all were from watching all the clips on here and reading comments and its on their website (not that I like them too much lol). From left: David Suich, Peter Brooke Turner, Hester Goodman, George Hinchliffe, Kitty Lux, Will Grove-White and Jonty Bankes. The other guy who normally sits inbetween George and Kitty is Richie Williams .

  • Could listen to Jonty singing all day, his voice is just so full of emotion

  • Comment removed

  • Saw them do this live last night and had the honour of meeting them afterwards- had the loveliest conversation with the bassist about how he inspired me to learn this on ukulele too :D Best gig I've ever been to!

  • @squishy3000 i went to see em last week too, Edinburugh? i wanted to talk to them but my mum said we had to go :/ just wait till im old enough to go myself. Any way they were awsome an i wood love to go see em agiean

  • does the guitarist remind anyone else of John Simm?

  • @loshipotato SO many people have said that!

    p.s. Don't you mean bassist?

  • @athull08 yes.. right.. well, i knew that.. or would have done if i'd paid proper attention to what he was playing..

  • @loshipotato p.s He's not the only one who everyone says looks like someone.

George (singing My Way) is said to look like Vic Reeves

Will (second from right) is said to look like David Tennant

Richie (not in this concert) is said to look like William Shatner

Peter (singing For Once in my Life) is said to SOUND like Al Gore

and as you said, Jonty looks like John Simm

In fact, I can add to that:

Hester (singing born free) looks exactly like one of my lecturers!!

  • @athull08 I think Will looks like Nicolas Sarkozy, or is that just me?

  • @MiloPearson a very young Sarkozy, maybe D

  • Amazing.

  • life on mars is lonesome i know :/ ..zzzzzzz

  • The story behind Bowie's Life on Mars so i'm lead to believe is someone asked him to do a version of "My Way" while working on the backing track he made up the lyrics to Life on Mars and ditched the "My Way" song

  • @paulspalace I think I read Bowie was working on a translation of the French song "Comme D'Habitude", but abandoned it, then Paul Anka put out his version, "My Way", after which Bowie responded by writing "Life on Mars", inspired by the song. The piano part of "Life on Mars" is by Rick Wakeman.

  • love the sound the group is jst amazing cant wait to hear more

  • I love it.... It makes my day. Jonty has such a beautiful voice.

  • Brilliant !
