The government has so much potential to foster good. Why are laws not being repealed and others not instated to foster the formation of pritate , not for profit, health care producing companys. I would have loved to have paid into a company all my life so that I would have access to health care that works. A health care that shielded us from the modern pleagues of cancer and AIDS instead of helping the spread of it. I read of a bunch of drug makers that knowingly spread AIDS and hep clotting

this bill creates incentive for individuals AND employers to drop their current private healh plans, bc the gvmt fine is CHEAPER than paying the monthly premium to a private insurance company.

private insurance cos. will then go out of business, placing the power of health insurance entirely into the hands of gvt.

this will also displace over a million workers.

BOTTOM LINE: the obama/pelosi regime is MARXIST COMMUNIST, and are intentionally creating a crisis in this country. PERIOD.

Here is a novel thought. If you want professional medical service, either pay for it or buy insurance. Most folks have cell phones and new cars, yet think someone one else should pay health bills. Just a thought. And, no. I do not intend on getting a flu shot just because insurance pays for it.

It baffles me that very few people flee to Canada for their perfect and free system that is far superior to ours in every way. I move withing my own state to get the best wages and living conditions I can find suitable for me and my family. I do the same with jobs. I do not expect the company to change for me, so I change companies to suit me. By Michael Moore's account, everyone should be fleeing to Cuba and Canada, since America has never been anything like them or their medical genius.

Never seen those numbers buddy. So what you are saying as that 100k Americans that are wealthy leave to Canada for the free healthcare? Or do they leave to live in a new place since they are wealthy and can do that? I have known many wealthy people who love to travel the world and live in Spain and Italy, but it was not for healthcare reasons. The wealthy have access to whatever health care they choose. I think you may have misunderstood my comment concerning the healthcare issue.

I could believe those numbers for medical reasons, but the wealthy are always let in to Canada, as are they around the world. The wealthy have gone to other countries for alternative medicine which is well documented, but not Canada as the place for cutting edge care. Its usually an Eastern country small town type scenario though...

It was like a breath of fresh air to hear Judge Napolitano read from Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution. That is what Congress can legally do. We have 535 member in Congress that swear an oath to uphold that document. How many do you think are honest?

Well, the government can generally do what it wants if they are able to amend the Constitution. The income tax is constitutional, but I don't think payroll taxes are.

Sadly, government can do what they want without amending the Constitution. Do you think they would bother with an amendment to ban alcohol today? Of course not. They would just criminalize it like they do other substances. A hundred years ago, it was widely recognized that a Constitutional amendment was needed to do everything outside of article 1, section 8. Today, that same news would shock most of our dumbed-down society. After all, no amendment was needed to takeover private companies.

I am pleased the discussion focused on "regulation" not "ownership. The government already "regulates" the medical industry. HR3200 is under consideration and does nothing to alter that arrangement. It does not extend government regulation or create government ownership of the health care delivery system. It doesn't even create national health insurance to replace private health insurance. It compels us to buy private health insurance with subsidies. It is more facsist than socialist.

It does begin the process of national health insurance in that it establishes a public option. In time, the public option will be the only option as no for-profit entity can "compete" with an endlessly subsidized one. Private insurance will inevitably be driven out of existence.

HR3200 makes a provision for the government to contract the public option out. It smells just like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

I think private investors will earn profits from the public option and tax payers will soak up losses.

It will priced by a formula and will not be cheaper, on average, than privare insurance.
