beautiful voices, great artistry etc....all very true but what matters most here, where there is no video/film, is that none none needed....the aural presentation tells all.....simply marvellous!!!
2 minutes ago I studied with Emil Markow, Bass, at West Chester University in the early eighties. He had a booming voice that filled a room. He had to be in his late 60's at that time, but still had an extremely powerful voice. @2:46
This recording is historic in more ways as this duet was made the same year that JB and Bob Merrill opened the Met season with Don Carlo. So all you tubers we are hearing the same quality and excitement the Met audience heard opening night. JB matched Merrill very well in these duets, but sometimes had to raise his game a bit whenever paired with the awesome power of Warren.
Jussi came to Wales UK in the 1950s. Wales has a particularly musical heritage and has given the world some wonderful singers. That night in Cardiff, the traffic stopped and people waited all day to try and stand at the back of the hall. Here in Wales we know a thing or two about singing. This tenor was the greatest of the great.
Such stories are very interesting to here. Wish more people could tell about howe it was when he performed. Where you there your self? i was lucky to be at his last concert in Gothenburg august 1960. An historic event ! I was just a boy but the experince was so strong that i remeber it very clear. According to many, his most emotional concert. The car cue from south into Gothenburg was 30 km long! Everything stod still. You`l find Donna non vidi from this concert under Onegin 65.
What makes Bjorling stand out from any other tenor was his consistency. The the voice was the same for 30yrs.He made over 300 hundred recordings, and as far as any one can tell he never made a bad one.Dont get me wrong, there has been some great tenors, but this guy is number one for me.
This piece is certainly a pearl in world's music heritage. In my view the best. One can listen this 100s times and end up in only admirinlgly wondering how they did it, and even what they did. Yet Jussi's biography says his condition was claimed to be fragile (due to...) during the recordings in the hot summer Rome (if I recall right).
Fully agree. Since 1958 I follow this genius. He is really incomparable in voice quality, style and musicality. The most known arias and songs sound as new when Jussi sings them.
I am so happy I had the luck to attend his very last performance outside Sweden, in May 1960, Amsterdam. I am very happy I could attend that concert. What a shame this concert was not recorded.
hello oh i wish i had seen him live. we never get tired of lisining to him nice to hear your comment we both know the voice, i also love fritz wunderlich.
What I've always loved about Bjorling's recordings is the quality. Despite the old recording techniques many of his recordings are top notch for their time.
Thank you for this, 302MarkVII (Jaguar?). Wonderful singing and lovely old pictures.

min absolut favorit duet sunget af 2 mænd. specielt 6.43 min inde i duetten er den mest fantastiske passage.

Bjorling stuns me again! Not only does he shine here, I'm amazed by how in synch the vibratos are in the duets.

What a pair these two made...two of the greatest in their respective vocal fachs. And so expensive to hire they almost never sang together! ;D

In my opinion this duet never was sung so beautifully as by Björling and Merrill. Their voices were matched wonderfully.

This is great! I only wish they had re-recorded it after the invention of stereo. Think how good it would have sounded in stereo!

@lrhjussifan It also sounds better off the CD as opposed to youtube quality.
