There USED to be a better copy of this posted somewhere on the internet/youtube, but I can't seem to find it anymore....Sad face for lack of quality :(
I'm convinced that beatboxing is one of the few remaining REAL creative genres remaining in music. They may be doing covers of other songs but they always adding their own mark and majority of times are just as good or sometimes better than the original.
We may hate the Justin Bieber and Rebecca's Blacks of the world, but they're put out there by the recording industry that are only interested in making a quick buck, not creative geniuses like Beardyman, Kid Beyond, Ronald Jenkees and Dub FX.
This rendition literally sent shivers down my spine. I was initially skeptic, but both this and the original are incredibly charged with emotion and feeling.
i'm amazed when i watch vids that mesmorize me and yet they're always some haters around who "dislike". maybe if those haters weren't around, the world would be just peachy lol :p
When you fade out to silence, and everyone in the audience remains transfixed in equal silence before breaking out in a standing ovation, that is the moment when you know you killed it.
Now please tell me, i heard 2 tones, 2 levels of voices at 3:34 and few seconds after that, was that was just him? doing 2 layers of sound at the same time!!!???
hes a fking live looper and hes famous for this art form. hes not just a beatboxer, but hes a fx producer and singer.
so hes been known for his art of combining them into a capella with loop pedals live on stage.
live looping is a technique used by a lot of artists including guitarists and bassists and u wouldve known about it if u had any knowledge about music
If there wasn't a Portishead version there wouldn't be his 'impressive work'. So I think props have to go to Portishead for an AMAZING song first and foremost.
But KB is just mind blowing. I want to see him live sometime... I really agree that his version is amazing, but Portishead is obviously in a different category so props to both in their own right.
i tried preforming it, it has a different sound when i do it, of course, but its a damn fun song to do... alot of room to play with the sounds, and beats and stuff... i wanna record it so i can put it on here, i just need to set up a camera some time before i preform...
i use ableton live 6, with foot p[edals assigned to specific keystrokes, allowing me to give it a fade-out effect, or to switch tracks, or for example, i could mute two tracks, and beatbox with the music still playing, and add them back in, speed up or slow down one or all of the tracks, or whatever... and hothand makes stuff like adjusting track volume, or switching between tracks, or speed adjustment much easier... fun stuff :3
Sounds like you got quite a nice set up. You get paid for gigs? Or you purely all pleasure? lol
I'm an armature beatboxer myself and had a few gigs at parties, pubs small clubs and such but I really want to get into looping (To give me abit of a rest) lol well that and the fact I'd like to vary my stuff.
I'd love to get a kaos pad 3 but of course im no rich man. at £299 in the Uk im gona be waiting a long time. Any tips on cheaper stuff to use and where I can find some?
Well, for the time being, I'm going around, and doing small gigs like parties, or open mic. nights at places, only "big gig" was about a week ago, when I got paid to be the "intermission guy"...
I was off-stage, for a play in front of a couple hundred people, and every time the curtains closed, while people rushed around back stage to change the setting and stuff, I would do a short song for the intermission, then announce the setting and stuff, for the coming scene...
Kid Beyond is (pun intended) beyond sick, but I could never agree with this, as Portishead has one of the, if not THE most beautiful sound I have ever heard.
Totally awesome performance/cover by Kid Beyond! But better than Portishead...?? That's like saying a Beatles tribute band are better than the Beatles xD
Kid Beyond brought an awesome reimagining and colour to this song. But - with all due respect (cos I DO love this version) - this is like a one-note, yet talented, impression of a deeper, multi-layered, original by Portishead. Both are awesome in their own way.
its a nice rhythm..

watch his feet. He lays down the beat and then layers it. And I think that it is echoed at the time or its a playback from earlier on in the song.

this is no beatbox he records it and it replays itself continuesly

Durrr. No shit. It's called a loop pedal and those noises are all created by his mouth, so it is a "beatbox".

live looping is a totally different art in itself and it is beatboxing its all created by his mouth.
