jevin, build a farm. not just any farm, a big farm for with diffrent rooms, i for cactus, wheat, pumkins, mellon ect. in the ones you can make automated farmer. example. cactus, reed, mushroom., also. instead of just puting torches uses redstone and pistons to make lights on the sides or above the crops, therefor if you need to check on you "automated mushroom farm" flick the switch and vwala! you can see, when your done. also link all the automated farms to one pick up spot. thanks!

Why don't u make a full automatic house/fortress?

You could make that with automatic defenses: dispensers with fire arrows and simple arrows, automatic lava defense around the walls (when u click a button u get lava around ur wall, that would be cool!)

And some hidden entrances: like some automatic door that would get to your own sewer which would be on the basement of ur fortress..or an automatic door inside a mountain :)
