I remember that "that style " for the want of a better term was unusual because people took time and dressed well? if anyone gets me?. There was effort in what they did.
Now its just off the shelf stores like super dry and we all see the label so we know, we know. They went there and all dress just like a manakin with the undone boots look.lol they cant do them up on the manakin its too awkward , i asked the one manager. Now........ its fashionable.
I wish people would stop using the term newromantics, they didn,t give them selves that name. They were just a bunch of about 200 who met at The Blitz, designers, artist, musians etc, then after the press jumped on the band wagon the kids started to copy. Most of the Blitz Crowd had then moved on.
@deancook07 Bullshit it was called New R I didn't hear them cry about the name when it got them notice with their style, music and press. It seems the damned do cry to this day. Bowie etc was dressing in the 70s started it, it was up & down the UK this club never started nothing they were just part of a scene that was happenin everywhere. Pete Burns in Probe (record shop) in Liverpool was dressing way bizzare in the 70s than anything that club could come up with. I remember it all like yesterday
@kirbsnz don,t think so ,Duran said they were Newromantics like idiots, the press used the term newromantics 1st.Visage had thier own sound which Midge and Billy used with the new Ultravox line up ie Midge on vocals.Visage were a collective of people like Rusty the Blitz dj, Midge and Billy from Ultravox, and Barry Adamson,Dave formula,John Mcgeogh of Magazine, then later Steve Barnacle who took over on bass, And Steve strange on vocals some times shared with midge in the early set up.
Ha.. I played The Anvil only the other week for the first time in years, listening to your upload seems almost odd, not having to suffer all the crackles I'd gotten so used to hearing.
Guess i really ought to stop being such a tight arse, get my head out of the eighties and buy it on CD.
I used to put this on the video jukebox in my local along with DD's Girls on Film on a friday night before hitting the town in my zoot suit, haha happy days
@Thatwasthesummerofsv I Was around 10 years old when I heard Visage and fell in love with them, But i would honestly say - love glove was not a very good song. Too Duran Duran to say the least. Too out of place.
-it would be impossible to find a band that give us a bit of those huge creations...The 80s rules and also Visage..Dammed dont cry and Visage not died also!
Song written by Steve Stange, Midge Ure and Billy Currie, heroes of the new romantics, a time when music could be pure and take you to other places with just a look in your face; those images and mysterious sounds cannot describe better this paranoid era, this times are something of the past appreciated for the ones that can meditate about themselves
A hauntingly awesome song,by the ever so true and talented and authentic new romantic, steve strange. Complimented by this simple and masterful vid. Brings a chill down my spine every time i hear it. Nice post. Benja :-)
I adore the sadness of this track. I so relate to this track, I could just drowned in this. The 12"... is especially AMAZING. ANother track from The Anvil which is just
"...for all it's brisk electrodisco rhythms, Visage's music was sepia-toned and at times almost funereal, with Strange's vocals exuding a fey sadness. Songs like Fade To Grey and The Damned Don't Cry conjured what Mark Fisher called "the Euro-aesthete's 'exhaustion from life' ", especially in tandem with the videos which evoked a pre-war desolation derived from Cabaret and Fritz Lang" - from 'Rip It Up & Start Again' by Simon Reynolds

All the things must pass ok but that times about ending '70 to go lates '80 was all very new , fresh and sparkling.
Today music is now a product for supermarkets and gangstas.Oh don't forget the violence and the nihilism inside.
