I love my 795. I'm using Federal Champion bulk pack. Ran 400 rounds through it tonight with 1 FTF (Not the guns fault). I have a nice little scope and a bipod. 795 kicks the 10/22's ass for half the price. I'm sure you know it but ATI makes a badass stock replacement for the 795. Have fun!
At first I was disappointed that there are not too after market accessories for the marlin 795. Now I really enjoy shooting it. I normally shoot it with a red dot sight. Its an accurate rifle... check some of my videos.
BEST 22 RIFLE...100 times more reliable and more accurate then the Ruger 10/22...I love and trust the Marlin model 795 so much that if i have a choice between a shotgun and the 795 during war time ? - I would pick up the Marlin 795 without hesitation
MARLIN 795 is one of thee most underrated 22 rifles ever..It never made a big hit like the Ruger 10/22 because im convince it was due to the fact that it had no accessories..SUCH A SHAME.
try the federal bilk auto match, pretty cheap and by far the best ammo i've used in my 795. 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards for bulk ammo isnt bad. never had any jams. this ammo makes a sweet gun even better.
I've run remington golden bullet bulk pack. About 8 or 9 FTE every time I would go to the range. Federal Champion has been miles better. Also after about 400 rounds of remington the ramp so dirty it was leading to feeding problems. 525 rounds of Federal and the ram and breach are cleaner than after 250 rounds of remington
My last shot bolt hold open doesn't work. But my manual bolt hold open does (it will lock open on an empty mag if I pull it back myself, but it won't do it automatically after a mag is emptied). Any ideas? Anyone else experience this problem?
@bjpw1234 Mine did the same thing. I've had it for four years now. When I first got it, the hold open worked on the last fired shot. After a few shooting sessions, it did as yours - ie. I could manually lock it open but it would not lock open with the last shot. It was no big deal so I ignored it. My wife got me some new mags for Christmas that year. The 4 new mags would lock back empty for a hundred rounds or so, then they did the same thing. The problem is the follower.
@bjpw1234 I inspected it and found after a while the knob in the magazine will become blunt and not engage the hold open lever inside the receiver as it should. Look at your magazines. There is an orange knob or projection that should push against the hold open when empty. I'll bet it is dull or rounded off from use. As long as it still functions I wouldn't worry about it. I figure they are all the same as mine.
@emoun2 Well, I would agree, except both my rifle and all of its magazines are almost brand new. Either way, I did some research and found some possible issues. I did some things like remove (most of) the over-spray out of the inside of the receiver, clean some places in the bolt that have never been cleaned before, and remove a burr that I saw on the LSBHO mechanism. And the gun is still in its break-in stage, so that might have something to do with it. I'll have to take it back to the range.
This gun shoots most ammo with no jams or feeding errors except winchester for some reason. That might just be mine but i only shoot CCI so i dont really ever run into that besides shooting with my cheap friends lol
i have a ruger 10/22 now but i miss and love my old marlin 795.....im my opinion and from experience, i know for a fact that the 795 is far superior compare to the 10/22.....one thing that make the 795 suck is that it doesnt have no accesories
I got a 795, except mine's in a wooden stock, and damn it looks nice. Such a neat little rifle, and it's way better than an out-of-the-box Ruger 10/22, for less than half the price.
I dont know if I should get the model 60sb or the 795ss
