  • 2 kings :(

  • look at the correction at 3:46

  • oooh i miss walkers voice...

  • I like this

  • look at schumacher's lines compared to everyone else...that's how you get -4 seconds per lap :)

  • i just love to hear murrys comentery on these old vids

  • hakkinen just unlucky in that time

  • Schumacher, Hakkinen, Hill.

  • @JustGrown94

    OK. Danke Dir!

  • Soon as Hakkinen flew off into the grass, Schumacher opened the taps and just Set Sail.

  • f1 today really is boring..KERS and the new tyres are good for the sport but cmon DRS?seriously? really? there is always new rules..FIA is killing the sport..but im looking forward to the v6 turbo though

  • in the season 1998 drivers had more courage than 2011

  • fuck off new f1 i need this again

  • Ever heard about my comment in "MS driving style"?

    No probably no.

anyone heards about what he wants to hear, and nothing more.

Bellof, yes, faster than Senna in an inferior car in Monaco 84.

Bellof, faster than Senna in Mclaren tests, with an inferior engine.

Bellof, in conversations with Ferrari much more time before Senna could dream about that.

Team orders? Nothing worse than Senna being favoured by Honda in 1988 and 1989. But Senna scored less points than Prost both in 88 and in 89!

  • Murray Walker and Martin Brundle, exciting commentary!

  • häkkinen no hakkinen!!!???

  • the master of rain

  • we will NEVER forget what schumacher has achived!

i dont care if he doesnt win with mercedes!

  • look at that twitch @3:49!

    good stuff

  • Thanks a lot for this. I didn't start watching Formula 1 until 99 and have heard a lo about this race but this was the first proper footage I've seen of it.

It's a shame that these days that race would have been red flagged or run behind the safety car to the finish.

  • He was so much faster in an inferior ferrari. It's funny to see Hakkinen lose so much in one lap. Reminds me of barcelona 96. I wish those days were back when really talented drivers could show their skills (even in dry).

  • whenever michael schumacher and mika hakkinen race against each other, we simply forget that there are other racers in the track because we were so focused on them as if they're the only ones who are racing. it's like we're in their world hehehe.

  • RAINMASTER !!!

  • @ytsupergrobi senna was the rain master, just look what he did at donnington

  • @2fast012 pfff... yes yes we are talking about 2 other greats in history!

  • @2fast012 Senna was the RAIN MAN one and onley, because of that Shumacher was named RAIN MASTER not RAIN MAN.

  • @ytsupergrobi the RAINMASTER was only one my friend. Unfortunately he died 4 years before this video was recorded

  • now this is real racing ... and not this crap they call now a days Formula 1

  • Schumacher is great. I love the fights between Montoya, Hakkinen, Hill and Villneuve. Noone was so fast in the wet.

  • oh my gosh shumi is a god in the wet i bet he was laughing his socks of at the tiny toddlers of f1 nowadays at montreal 2011 lol.

  • 1998: "drivers' are earning their money this afternoon under these conditions - good action"

2011: "totally undrivable - get the safety car out or - better yet - red flag the race completely"

rain somehow got a lot more dangerous in the last few years.

  • @MrTimAway globalwarming.

  • @connell256 globalwarming clouding the judgement, yes.

  • @MrTimAway bad comparison, the cnditions in Montreal under red flag were far different than this, because of montreal's flatness and being only 20 ft above sea level, there were literally pools of water on track, the cars would've ALL aquaplaned off. hell the safety car could've gotten flooded.

  • @MrTimAway in fact it did get more dangerous, cause of all the dumb restrictions from the FIA, all cars depend way more on the right aerodynamics and also the Pirelly tires are complete crap...

  • @MrTimAway its easy for you to say. the last thing the FIA want is another tragedy, the safety car is necessary

  • @MrTimAway hahahaha man this was the best comment for a long time i read in youtube you really made me laugh and i totally agree;)

  • @MrTimAway Best comment i have ever read on F1, no the rain aint more dangerous but the drivers are wrapped in cotton wool,,:) Except for the likes of Schumacher who i belive would drive a wheelie bin in the rain and still end up in the points in his pomp...:)

  • @MrTimAway I used to love such a wet race back in those days, now I have to change the channel because they're stopping the race or running it under the safetycar. I think current drivers have no balls anymore, which was the most important thing to have when F1 was for hairy chested men, not kids that can go around a corner.

  • @alxcsb well if u think in F1 the drivers decide when the safety car comes out or when it stays in..i wonder how much F1 did u see "back in those days" !!!

  • @MrTimAway Then aerodynamics generated more downforce, also they had tc. Now it's much easier to aquaplane under similar conditions, sadly most people think that drivers become pussies.

  • @cud0s I appreciate your opinion, but you are off. Traction control was first used some time in the 80s and then banned in '94. In 2002 that ban was partially lifted which caused problems that eventually led to the new regulations of 2008. In 1998 - which is the time of this video - traction control was banned.

As for downforce, you are right stating that regulations have made wings smaller. However, don't neglect the engineering evolution that increases downforce - even with smaller wings.

  • @MrTimAway Although officially tc wasn't allowed, fia had no way of controling it and therefore cars had some sort of tc. That was the main reason of lifting the ban

  • Also, I would like to add that downforce gets increasingly important with higher speeds. Rain would inevitably slow cars down - which isn't to say downforce is no longer relevant. There might be more accidents, but they would be less severe.

The biggest issue - without a doubt - is spray from the car in front of you. But the levels of spray haven't increased whatsoever. I'm sorry, but i fail to understand how drivers have NOT become pussies.

  • @MrTimAway ok ill try to explain in other way:

Mechanical grip under wet conditions:same now and then

Aerodynamical grip under wet conditions:better in 1998 than now

Tyres width:smaller in 1998 than now

Spray from diffuser: more spray now than then, because diffusers are bigger and more efficient

Traction control: banned now, allowed then

Different tyres width and more aerodynamical grip prevented cars from aquaplaning, which is the main reason of losing control under wet conditions

  • @cud0s In 1998? Heck no. There were no driver aids back then.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrTimAway More rain = more fun

  • @MrTimAway Fuck yeah. Robots dont like water.

  • @MrTimAway your definitly right!

  • @MrTimAway this video starts with safety car on track. before that hakkinen was ahead of schumi more than 40 seconds.

  • @MrTimAway Those wettyres aren't today as good as they were, since those monsoontyres were "too expensive" but otherwise you're right.

  • @MrTimAway not only that but:

-lets punish this guy for overtaking impolitely!

-lets slow down the f1 cars, f1 is not about the fastest sport on earth anymore fuck that

    -lets make the vehicles ugly

hell whats next: call out the safety car! Button needs to go to the bathroom!!

  • WTF is going on with f1?!?i miss so much this times between 1996 to 2005-06...

  • when formula 1 was actually worth watching!! load of crap nowadays

  • omg, how many safety car we got in 2011 with these weather! ^^

  • it was ironic that he slid onto the grass after minardi crashed. goddamn you minardi! have to say he did the right thing not runing though

  • At least there's no red flag, just because " there's rain " :)

  • @JeremyTMN i hate it! the race would be actually stopped if there is "soooo much" rain today... i miss that times in f1!!!

  • two of the best of f1 history!

  • @soxeo99 are you drunk, hakkinon only had a good car for 2 seasons

  • @26DeislerFCB

well, okay, he was 2 seasons very good ^^

but Schumacher is one of the best in history :D

  • the safety car looks like something taken straight from the carpark compared to todays monster

  • seriously.. dont slow down the tracks.. just build HUGE runoff gravel pits..

the high speed turns separate drivers in a more interesting way than waiting for someone to miss a chicane or something.

If they've got a big enough beach, i dont see any safety concerns..

  • the weather conditions here were much worse than they were in canada 2011 and yet they were allowed to race -.- i guess those were the times when a driver's skill still meant something

  • schuey...the rain man cometh. brilliant...and after this weekend in canada he will return.

  • This video reminds me of the good old times, when there was just real driving and not such bullshit like DRS and KERS. F1 was brilliant back then and really exciting. Now it's just boring.

  • @Sricel Totally agree.

During the last decade "entertainment" has been infiltrated in nearly every form driving-out true talent. F1 has been politicised after "the left" hijacked the green movement.

  • This is real race, not like shitting Canada 2011 race.

  • Comment removed

  • how do they drive like that in the rain?!?! i find it hard to see where i'm going when I'm cycling/running in the rain!!

  • I remember the blue of Sauber, the yellow of Jordan, the red of Ferrari, the silver of McLaren, the black of Minardi.......MINARDI HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA

  • They don't drive any more on a nice wet circuit like this, only behind the SC.

  • Love Murry Walker.....bring him back!!!

  • Later in this race, Häkkinen did a spin and cut a curve and made the fastest lap of the race in the same lap loool xD

  • not the only reason. even Rosberg is outperforming him.

  • 4:28 hahaha

  • vettel was 11 years old, and hamilton 13 at the time of this race . now they are beating schumi. nuts

  • @RMT87

They are only beating him because they have quicker cars.

  • vettel was 11 years old, and hamilton 13 during this race . now they are beating schumi. time.....

  • heute bringt er aber nichts mehr.....

  • @CoolMoDi28

  • Best in the rain, best ever.

  • Rain meister

  • 2:42 LOOOOL :D:D

  • Yes yes yes! These were the freaking days, guys. Rainmaster Schumi versus the ice cold Hakkinen from the north.. Such titans, such epic battles they fought on the track. Such tension... That red of the Ferrari popping up in every corner in that silver arrows side mirrors. Ready to eat you alive with the slightest mistake made. And then Mika makes that mistake, and poof, all is lost and Ferrari rides to victory. :D I wish they put Michael back in a competitive car. Wonder what would happen

  • Formula 1 was awesome at this time.. Nowadays it's ... I dont know... Boring? Yep, boring. But I dont know why. :(

  • tõll_lèUtÈ_sûcht_mâl_Ñãch:_olikohle_åÜf_gõõglÊ_vÒll_gEÏl

  • michael schuemäkker :D

  • Rules to 2014:All the cars must use 3.0 straight 6 engines, and they must have less than 400BHP

  • @Arthurzeiro 400bhp? :'(

  • in 2013 its going to be 1.6l 4 cylinder engines.

  • @letmesnitch turbo!!

  • 2011 season is shit cuz it's more about tactics not about the skill of the driver's plus the engines now are "economical"" what has happened to f1 :(

  • When I hear the F1 98's sound, it almost makes me cry ;/

  • isnt mika hakinen the one who crashed once and run off in the woods to cry?

  • @jayive34

Sure, but he still was champion that year. End of story.

AND he nearly won the 2000 title too, and led it from Hungary onwards.

  • Hakkinen the BEST::!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I remember this .. I was little and young but it was funny as fuck if I it compare with today F1...

  • Epic fail

  • schumacher is not the best ever: schumacher is good ok but he is a big cheater too, a lucker too, he can accept he lose and ferder and ferder and ferder......it means he's never gonna be on the same level of the real number 1 of all time wich is AYRTON SENNA he was he is and he always will be the best driver of formula one history.....Schumacher is the number 1 only in numbers.......think about that ;)

  • i miss the benettons and jordans

  • @TobiWeiermann10 I miss the Orange Arrows, not quick, but my god it sounded incredible... I went to the Silverstone GP when i was a kid, i will never forget the sound of that Cosworth...

  • @addicted2megadeth: Danke schön...

Keine Ahnung, ob Schumi das Rennen nach Stop and Go Strafe gewonnen hat..war erst 3 Jahre alt :D:D

  • Schumacher is just awesome the best ever i hope he becomes world champion again

  • Geile Video!

:S Alter Schummel - Schumi :P

  • I remember how back in these days the Formula 1 weekends used to be a real event. We had Mika Häkkinen and Michael Schumacher racing neck to neck between themselves and others aswell. No race was over before the finish line!

Nowadays it doesn't matter, there are no more drivers, personalities; only cars. Whoever gets the best one wins, unless they screw up drastically.

I don't know about you but here in FInland no one seems to care for this sport like they used to, and I don't blame 'em.

  • @TheAanikki

You are to 100%right Best car=championship.

  • @TheAanikki - oh shut up formula 1 is today is much better than it ever used to be and the level of talent and competition is so much better than any other era you've ever seen. There was a 5-way title fight in 2010 for god's sake has that ever happened before?

  • @Anime998877 There can be 20 title contenders and still boring

  • @Anime998877 It was a 2 man race between Alonso and Vettel. Even if Webber had won, Vettel placed second and Alonso third, Vettel would still win it. If Alonso were ahead of Vettel at any point, he would have won. Either way, I was so certain that Vettel would win it, that I could have placed money on it.

  • @scrfce123 - I really have no clue what you're talking about. All i know is in 2010 there were 5 drivers and 4 went down to the final round with a shot at the championship and that has never happened before.

  • @Anime998877 During the last round, only Alonso or Vettel could have won the drivers title. Like I said, if Alonso finished in any position above Vettel, he would have won. However, Vettel finished ahead of Alonso, so he took it. The other 3 drivers were too far behind in the points to stand a chance.

This did happen a while ago with Coulthard and Hakkinen vs. Schumacher and Irvine. I don't remember the exact season, but there was a time where those guys were separated by a few points.

  • Comment removed

  • @scrfce123 - you are really clueless. going down to the final round Alonso had 246 points, Webber had 238, Vettel had 231, and hamilton had 222. the championship was open to ANY of these 4 drivers as you get 25 points for winning.. 4- way title!

  • @Anime998877 Sorry... My bad. Thought that they were using the old points system last year.

  • @scrfce123 - yea no problem

  • This was the racing that hooked me on F-1

  • Who says Ayrton Senna is the best?

  • @ImFasterThanTheStig i think his nephew was WAY better. (note the sarcasm)

  • @ImFasterThanTheStig I do. Schumacher came back. And now he faced people with similar cars and he sucks bad. his team mate has destroyed him.

  • @daboom2006

    1. He's 42.

    2. While he was not driving anymore, many changes happened.

    3. He's not motivated anymore, he has achieved everything already.

    4. Senna is only described as the greates a) because he died tragically and b) by the english fans because he drove for McLaren. He had the best car to win his championships, the 88, 90 McLaren was unbeatable, in 91 he still had a very good car, not to forget the Lotus before he came to McLaren.

  • @ImFasterThanTheStig So your saying Schumacher was better than Senna. Then you are an idiot. Almost every f1 driver acknowledge Senna was the best ever.

Schumacher if he was any good would have at least beaten his team mate. But has got comprehensively beaten. Schumacher was nothing more than a "good" driver as in better than his team mate. With a superior car. Just like Vettel.

  • @daboom2006

Hold on m8, why this aggression? Was Senna your father? He was a rich F1 driver, who was bloody quick and won three titles and died, because of this dangerous sport. That's it, point.

And because he died, he is called the legend and F1 god and so on. That wouldn't be the case if he would have failed at Williams like in the first two races in '94.

Back to Schumacher. I'm allowed to state my opinion, but obviously, you are a hater, calling Schumi "nothing more than good".

  • @daboom2006

Watch Spa 95, 96, 97, Spain 96, Hungary 98, Monaco 99, Suzuka 98 (until the tyre exploded) and more of that races.

And again: You don't react to my arguments: I already said, that he is 42, F1 developed a lot since he first left in 2006, and he is not motivated anymore, that's why he's slower than Nico. And I wonder what people would say about Senna, if he would be in that situation. Pray to holy Senna before going to sleep, and leave me alone with your insults.

  • @ImFasterThanTheStig Go suck schumachers dick. You austrian im not suprised you support him. Schumacher himself admitted Senna was the best, so did Webber, Brundle, Massa, Alonso etc.

So you can fuck off. And your disrespect to Senna is amazing. I hope karma punishes you.

  • @daboom2006

Lol, ok, so Schumacher was supposed to say "No, I am better", when asked on a documentary made about Senna? Come on kiddy, get over it. And Webber,Massa are not the people to judge about that, Brundle is saying that because Schumacher destroyed him when they were together in the Benetton team. Blame your schoolsystem, being Australian must be difficult. Maybe you should sue your government for your own incompetence. Or, let me rephrase that in bastardized english: U IZ AN IDIOT LYK!

  • @ImFasterThanTheStig so true.

  • @ImFasterThanTheStig Completely deluded. You are in a minority. Oh yeah your Austrian. NO BIAS THERE AT ALL (sarcasm). You can sleep better knowing Schumacher was better than Senna in your little world. Lol.

Schumacher is a joke and he cant even outqualify his team mate. 7 times world Champion. Lol.

The only imcompetent government was youand your Nazi mind. I always thought every german/austrian was a programmed individual from birth. Almost No feelings. I guess we showed you in WWII. LOL.

  • @daboom2006

Is it true that you are 30? And the only thing you're doing is arguing on YT and insulting people only because of their opinion? So, no other opinion than your is allowed? That's what I call totalitarian thinking, but hey, you're Australian, you beat me personally in WWII, when my birth was still 46 years to come. LOL. That's what I call "bad Karma", but again: Hey, your beat me in WWII, you personally captured Vienna, oh wait, that were the russians. You should rethink some of your

  • @daboom2006

...actions really, man, with 30 years it's about time getting a job, a life, a woman, and not compensate sexual desires by insulting people because of their opinion. The only thing I did was express my opinion, that Senna's the better driver for me, I was too young to watch Senna live, so why are you so disrespectful?

  • @daboom2006

Quote: "that Senna's the better driver for me", I mean Michael of course.

  • @ImFasterThanTheStig Shhh. Go to sleep. Sieg Heil. Michael Schumacher German. Must support. Sieg Heil, Sieg Heil.

    Programmed code. Must support.

  • LMAO, AT THE START OF THE VIDEO I THOUGHT IT WAS SLOW MOTION!

  • much more excitingt than now, even if murray walker is annoying wee arsehole. sick of all the shit nowadaes commentators constantly telling me this is an exciting race when all ive seen is 70 laps of safety car because someone came to a stop on the grass or because someone shoe laces arent tied properly.

  • che schifo.

  • Häkkinen's car already was a bit damaged.

  • Drivers and cars were better back then.

  • The people that say that this was more interesting then today are just OLD!

  • Comment removed

  • nobody liked Schumacher :P

  • why can they go that fast in that rain??unlike last year people just keep crashing into eachother in korea??

  • @chiang0809466 because it´s from a time where they didn´t put so much technick shit in the cars like now a days... cars where lighter faster and the driver had to be more sensitive in driving than today.... where you got 1000 computers trying fixing mistakes that you should never have done

  • @subBURN The cars werent lighter than todays cars until the refuelling ban. They've been around 600 kg for awhile now but obviously in 2010 they are alittle heavier with the refuelling ban. Also please share examples of computers fixing driver errors, I dont know where you got that belief from, the anti stall is all I can think of right now but what else?

  • @jraybay search for Technik Video - Das F1 - Lenkrad / F1 - Steering Wheel

  • Schumacher master of the rain

  • nowadays those pussies wouldnt even start a race in that conditions... back in the 90'2 they were men. now they are little girls.

  • Schumacher will strike back in 2011.

  • @kaffeeschluerfer91 ja genau HAHAHA !!

    Wers glaubt wird seelig ...

  • @Bale4Bond Selig schreibt man nicht mit Doppel-e.

  • @kaffeeschluerfer91 oh ja stimmt ^^

  • mediorcre driver with no chance against Schumacher

  • This is classic F1, modern F1 drivers are too pussy to drive in these conditions.

  • schumacher is great and the best ever but not the best on rain, that will always be senna The Magic

  • nobody was better in rain then michael schumacher

  • @bayer041993 Senna was much better than Schumi in rain (and in any other condition.) Even Schumi will agree with that!
