Word is that these are junk because of the heat. Just google hp envy overheat. It is incredible that HP did not recall these. The 17 is like a furnace. Bad HP do the right thing.

umm envy has a dvd drive first of all its just external and it can handle 16 gigs of ram and it has an ATI raedon graphics card and it can run snow leopard too well i think so
I've used both the Envy 15 and 13 but I got the 13 because it is more portable and it is the best laptop I have ever had in my life. My friend likes it better then his MBP he has to have to his school.
@tipoomaster I've only used the Envy 15 for a couple hours and it was plugged in so I don't know about it's battery life. However, I own the Envy 13 and the battery life on it without the slice is about 4 to 5 hours. With the slice it is about 18 hours like HP claims.

The battery slice was a pretty good idea. A more useful idea than chicklet keyboards, edge to edge glass or magsafe connectors in any case. (btw I'm not disputing that Apple is more innovative than HP, or suggesting Apple invented those keyboards).
You get what you pay for! It's a little cheaper than a 15 inch macbook pro, has a quad core processor!!! And 1GB video card...the mac doesn't have that much.

For 1700 you get a macbook with a core d duo 2.5ghz, 4gb of ram a pathetic 9400m and a pathetic 250GB mem. For 1800 you get an HP with an i7 1.6ghz that will smoke that core 2 duo (3 times as fast), a radeon 4830 that is about 4 times as fast as the 9400m, 6gb ram and 500gb space no optical drive.
For 2000 your macbook will be upgraded to a 9600m now only twice as slow instead of four times as slow as the 4830 in the HP, the cpu goes from 2.5 to 2.6ghz which will still be about 3 times as slow as the HP and the hard-disk goes from that pathetic 250GB to a still crappy 320GB, compared to 500GB in the HP.
When you put it like that the envy's value suddenly seems pretty good.
i bought the envy 15, and its coming the next day. before i got this notebook, i did research from PC to mac, and i compared all of the specs between the two. i like both PC and mac, but the envy blew the macbook pro out of the water, and thats why i got it, not because its a PC, because it has better internal specs than the macbook pro
