hey Nightflyer, tomorow i will be recieving my Blade 400 and i figured it would be good to know what things i should look over on my helicopter before flying it for the first time? im extremely excited to fly this helicopter and i dont wanna crash it on its miaden flight due to incorrect setup :)
Hi NightFlyer. I was resting my hopes on getting the msr at the weekend for christmas, unfortunatly they dont have any at my LHS and he's suggested getting the 400. I've sussed flying my 3ch syma032 and wanted to progress but I'm not sure if this is too big a leap.
@njtl2686 going from 3 channel helicopters to a 6 channel helicopter is a HUGE leap. going from a begginer helicopter like that to a 6 channel will just result in lots on crashes and spending lots of money on fixing the helicopter. you should probably go to a 4 channel FP helicopter like the Honey Bee (Thats what i did and i am getting a Blade 400 for Christmas)
@chrisrain11 Thanks for the reply. I thought it would be a bit much. Speaking to the first chap at the LHS was like pulling teeth, I knew he shouldn't of recommended it, just wanted a sale. The second bloke I spoke to was much more helpful. They now have the MSR in stock and I was going to pick it up on Saturday but then I got snowed in...still snowed in....AAARRRGGGG!! Cant wait to get it.
@njtl2686 hmm, well i dont know much about the SR but what i do know is it is just a larger version of the MSR. It is very stable because of the 45 degree flybar so its very easy to fly just like the MSR. If i were you instead of getting the SR maybe try something like the Honey bee FP v2? it will really help you learn to fly and it will prepare you for flying more advanced helicopters such as the Blade 400. But its your decision, im sure youll enjoy whatever helicopters you decide to buy :)
@chrisrain11 you are so right there, I am flying the 120SR right now, then the Honey Bee or Falcon 40, can't decide. The SR is really tough, after 7 flights no parts have broke (I cut power when I put). Just graduated to 4 channel two days ago. Be patient njtl2686, that's a big intimidating bird to lift off with. Might I even say dangerous without a lot of simulator time. Even going from coaxial micros to coaxial 250s was a jump in a way for me.
buy the radio saperately and you'll get the rechargable battery and charger included.as far as the heli goes, get the e razor 450.its better built in my opinion.for the grand total of $380 its deifintely a better deal.
good video. one question i have the mcx2 mastered that and the honey bee v2 good at that i also have a dx6i. what would you recomended as a first 3D heli? thanks
I don't actually fly helicopters "yet" but i want to. so i was wondering if there were any helicopters that you believe are the best starter helicopters.
hey dave ive been flying msr's havocs reflex and helix cx2 and 3 aswlee as the mcx i was thinking about a honey bee and iv done good on the sim i mostly practice hovering but i dont want to buy another etrm helli because i want to get one last heli because im running out of room do you think it would be appropriate to get a 400 and practice hovering ive flown wlkeras as well but all mini and micro so i would like your opinipion
@wqdy949 if you have mastered all of those and can do well on a sim, i would get the 400, its quite hard at first because its sensitive but once you get the hang of it it's great
Very nice I have the blade cx2 I have had it for about 6 months now love it. Moving on to rc planes now I've bought a mustang fast 3 please reply dave!
The DX6i has a flight mode/idle up switch. I think it's on the top left corner, I upgraded from a DX6i long ago. For heli's the flight mode switch is two saved settings for pitch and throttle curve. *The video just showed where the switch is...
You can rid the pitch curve and put on FP blades and it will be close but you will still get minimal pitch changes in the blade grips..but shouldnt hurt overall flight
Through programing in the transmitter you could set the pitch curve of the blades to be the same no matter what position the throttle stick is at. After that just make sure your throttle curve is linear. So yes, you could make it a fixed pitch heli. I don't understand why anyone would want to...
i just brought a blade 400 3d went through the steps like the book said and how u did yours.
anyway when u plugged ur battery in the after u turned the reciever on u started to test the sticks out when i push up down left right etc nothing happens its like i brought a dud .the battery is fully charge i thought it was ready to fly straight out the box. instead i cant even get it started or get the rudders turning or swash blade up and down plz help me ASAP
if there is no response you ether have the wrong model set or dont have it binded
see manual for model selection and make sure its set to blade 400 and that its binded, if its out of the box it should already be binded and test flown so dont mess with any settings as its already to go, just check there is the blade 400 heli on the display then it should work ok,
@jauchiu Just trying to help you save a lot of money... and have a better bird. The aluminum head for the blade is $100... upgrade the tail and you still have a plastic frame. Buy a clone and it cost less and you start with a better bird... it's not rocket science.
@ wjkssmd Your right I bought a EXI 450 and I is much better than my blade 400. This is a old video and this Helli comes with DX6i. I got mine Sept of 09 for 399.
bought one off a friend, and it seems to be killing my batterys. I spoke with the guys from eflite, an they have no idea.
I dont fly it long enough to hurt the battery, and Im right there when its charging, flying my MSR,is there anyway the2nd blade 400 is killing my battery?
Please let me know, as no one else will help me.I love this hobby, but it is costing me money $60 a battery.thanks for your help.
I would be checking out the motor. The motor is what eats most of the power and will eat a lot more if there is binding in the motor or somewhere in the powertrain. Stay away from the Eflite batteries. $60 for a 3s 1800mAh battery is too much. If you were to use a 3s 2400mAh you would see a 25% increased flight time and even more power if you use a higher C rating battery for that price...

hey.....i have to ask you, in thinking of buying an rc heli, and i have to make a choise between the blade 400 and a copterx v2 with trex parts on it, what do u recomend of these two???
Have you done any mods to your DX6i? Note: I left a comment on another video you made, I bought my Blade 400 3D today, I got everything you got, a 12v AC adapter, and an extra battery. (The guy at the store said it wouldn't be a bad idea, and i didn't disagree lol) Great helicopter, if you find anything else cool about it, could you post it please? I used this video as a reference, and i will check in again from time to time. Thanks!
hi dave i have a question. i have shark 450 II heli and when i turn it on the light keeps blinking on the gyro and the reciver and it stays blinkin. what do you that is the problem?
Quick question. Which do you all like better the Blade 400 or the CP pro?
I've simmed them both with Clearview and I like them both. Either is fine. I think I like the CP pro better. But I realize that bigger is better with a RC heli. What do you all recommend as my first heli?
hi i know you want nightflyer to answer but i might as well help, i would recommend that you go for the blade 400, there ist much difference between the way the blade 400 and the CP pro handle other than when the CP pro's battery gets low it will lose tail traking. the blade 400 has more potential. when you get your helicopter get it with training gear, I to learned how to fly on a sim but no matter how good you get on a sim its a bit of a shock when you fly a real rc helicopter hope this helps
Thanks SuvyMan, Yeah I had a feeling the blad 400 would be better too. I think the wooden blades intimidate me a little. Yeah I simm them both and of course my confidence is high so much that I want the real thing now. the 400 3D is 459 where I am but take the %10 AMA discount helps. Plus it comes with the DX6i which I know is a good thing. Thanks for your advice I'm betting Dave will probably agree. Thanks DJE
hey im a trainer and my first hely was a blade 400. On my first flight i did not know it starts soft so i acsedently put it on half throttle it jumped of the groung. Wasn't trimmed proporley so it crashed now i need your help. Can you plz make 1 video on how to change the inner blade tube that holds the blades? plllllllz IM A BIG VIEWER
Also can u make a few vedios on how to change the servo and the riciver. i also need to know of how to connect the dx6i radio to real flight g4.5. pllllllz IM A BIG VIEWER
thats why you should start out flying something a little less complicated and expensive. So that you dont go and do something like that. must be nice to have money. no offense.
Hi NightFlyyer I have a problem with my blade 400, the main motor is turning to the wrong side, what can I do to fix it? if some body else know what to do please tell me. Thanks
Do you mean switch two of the three (red, blue, black) wires? because I all ready move the three wires in every combination possible and some times the motor spin to the right direccion but the blades doesn't move and when I set the wires with the right color again the motor and the blades turn to the wrong side, thanks for your help.
If you want it to jump off of the ground you could start the rotor spinning with the pitch pushing the heli into the ground, then switch it quickly and it will fly into the air.
Dave, Would you say the Blade 400 is a good heli. I have some nitros but nothing in the small electric size, but I am looking for one. I would get the plug and play as I have all other needed electronics. The reason I ask is everyone says the servos and gyro are junk. What do You think. If you say it is good to go, I'll get one. Thanks, Jack.
The only people I have heard that had problems with servos, usually came after a crash. Real helis cannot take crashes either. If the gyro or servos will run for 5 minutes on the bench tesing on off, they usually will run for 5 years. My gyro never worked, but since I dont use it much, I didnt notice too bad. But in all the Spectrum radio was a selling point and why I bought mine. But I like to fly this helicopter, so I give it a thumbs up. Horizon has a good rep too and will take care of u.
NICE! I'm picking mine up tomorrow. I got a deal on it for $329, could'nt pass it up. Don't worry tho, I will promptly turn it into many little Blade 400's.
lol
(Maybe that's why they gave me such a deal....they could see me coming for parts...)
im getting totally confused by that remote lol so many buttons haha! i love the thing fly tho
u are one skilled flyer man looking at all ur reviews hey could u do one on cx3?or is the cx3 just the same as the cx2? couse i really dont think so :P gl making more vids :D
The CX3 and 2 are essentially identical internally except for the heading hold gyro and the body. I like the 2 a little better then the 3 since the skids tend to break in the front in a hard landing (CX2 skids tend to hold up better in hard level landings), but both are great machines.
so if u want a good flying helicopter u should get cx2 and if u want one that looks a bit more scale then its cx3 and these skids arent to hard to replace just 4 screws? would be kinda stupid to need to buy new skids every week tho lol gonna cost a bit :P
Yeah, that sums up my thoughts about the CX3 nicely. It is not hard to replace the skids, but it can get annoying after a few breaks. Of course the bodies can always be swapped between the 2 and the 3 as well since the internals are the same except for the 3 in 1 gyro unit.
I want buy this heli, but i only have the CX2, this is a bad starting with 6 CH helis? Or this heli is good to start (Sorry the bad english, i'm from Brazil, South America)
Welcome Brazil. I always say, learn on a VW and if you never crash it then get the Porsche. This is not good to learn on, unless you have a qualified instructor for each flight. Good luck.
It reminds me of an air hogs's toy that fly only like this,it has motors for pushing forward but no motor for blades, the blades are operated by spring and you must crank it,in order to start it. I never knew that its a difficult stunt for a real RC 3d heli... By the way this heli is far more expensive than the rest of the RTF competition(esky, walkera, etc) but i gues it is worth it cause of the dx6i and the rest of the electrics
Right. But the stainless steel parts on my helis are not anodized. On this one, the flybar, some linkages, main shaft and tail shaft are stainless. I guess I should have been more politically correct for you. Sorry.
Thanks. Haha. This is cheap compared to some of the planes and helis I have owned and flown over the years, and well worth the money, which I earn and earned by working hard all my life. Thanks for the comments.
blade cx2 :) i have one of those and i'm still learning to fly it :) and they are very easy to maintain and everything u need to get in to rc helis is in the box
hi dave, i've been thinking of buying a 2,4ghz transmitter and can you advise the dx6i to me? how is the throttle stick feeling? is it nice and smooth? and is the programming of the pitch/throttle curves easy?
I like the D6i. The throttle stick is nice and smooth and it is very easy to program all the pitch points, throttle holds, curves expos, half rates, etc, etc for many different models. It has model match so will not run any plane or heli, until you switch it to the right one. Great radio, and Danke from USA.
lol if all those planes are located at your house, dont tell anyone where you live! i have watched the video at the end befor , you sould have seen me fly or sould i say crash helicopters when i first got into the hobby of flying helis, lol!!! it was bad, but after sometime, and 150 dollars i got it.
You just gotta love eflite! They have some of the best helicopters on the market!

Quick question. Which do you all like better the Blade 400 or the CP pro?
I've simmed them both with Clearview and I like them both. Either is fine. I think I like the CP pro better. But I realize that bigger is better with a RC heli. What do you all recommend as my first heli?
djemil5 2 years ago
hi i know you want nightflyer to answer but i might as well help, i would recommend that you go for the blade 400, there ist much difference between the way the blade 400 and the CP pro handle other than when the CP pro's battery gets low it will lose tail traking. the blade 400 has more potential. when you get your helicopter get it with training gear, I to learned how to fly on a sim but no matter how good you get on a sim its a bit of a shock when you fly a real rc helicopter hope this helps
suvyMan2007 2 years ago
Thanks SuvyMan, Yeah I had a feeling the blad 400 would be better too. I think the wooden blades intimidate me a little. Yeah I simm them both and of course my confidence is high so much that I want the real thing now. the 400 3D is 459 where I am but take the %10 AMA discount helps. Plus it comes with the DX6i which I know is a good thing. Thanks for your advice I'm betting Dave will probably agree. Thanks DJE
djemil5 2 years ago
Thanks for this Dave! It's still 469 where I am too. But with the AMA discoutn of %10. It makes it nicer. Great video and explanation of the DX6i

OMG, nice review. but stop the blades when you crash! That would freak the crap out of me!

Wasn't trimmed proporley so it crashed now i need your help. Can you plz make 1 video on how to change the inner blade tube that holds the blades? plllllllz IM A BIG VIEWER
plane1233 2 years ago
Also can u make a few vedios on how to change the servo and the riciver. i also need to know of how to connect the dx6i radio to real flight g4.5. pllllllz IM A BIG VIEWER
plane1233 2 years ago
thats why you should start out flying something a little less complicated and expensive. So that you dont go and do something like that. must be nice to have money. no offense.
piperpilot26 2 years ago
you can put that size heli together from hobby city for half that.
btw when you stick velcro to a battery you should remove the paper sticker.
34 bucks for the airframe or a case of 6 for 214.00 from hobby city

Hi NightFlyyer I have a problem with my blade 400, the main motor is turning to the wrong side, what can I do to fix it? if some body else know what to do please tell me. Thanks
MarcoHwaRang 2 years ago
Reverse the plug to the motor from the speed control.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
Do you mean switch two of the three (red, blue, black) wires? because I all ready move the three wires in every combination possible and some times the motor spin to the right direccion but the blades doesn't move and when I set the wires with the right color again the motor and the blades turn to the wrong side, thanks for your help.
MarcoHwaRang 2 years ago
Well, I would try to only switch the red and blue wires. Never saw this before. The main blades are to turn clockwise, so make sure.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
Thanks, now is working properly, but also I have another question have you ever tried the blade cp pro 2? would you recomended?
MarcoHwaRang 2 years ago
Good. I dont have one, but have flown one and it is pretty good, but again, not for beginners, as it is a hot rod. Good luck.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
would you recommend a g2 v2?
jboy0421 2 years ago
They are good, but still not for beginners without instructors.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
Thanks.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
If you want it to jump off of the ground you could start the rotor spinning with the pitch pushing the heli into the ground, then switch it quickly and it will fly into the air.
luciferq7 2 years ago
could i please get your nine heli tips?
luciferq7 2 years ago
That causes way too much stress on the machine, you know.

im not into flying helicopters, just like watching the vids. the crash at the end, damn it doesnt look good

Thanks for watching for sure. Your right, it wasn't a good one.....in fact most aren't. LOL.

tastim5 2 years ago
Dave, Would you say the Blade 400 is a good heli. I have some nitros but nothing in the small electric size, but I am looking for one. I would get the plug and play as I have all other needed electronics. The reason I ask is everyone says the servos and gyro are junk. What do You think. If you say it is good to go, I'll get one. Thanks, Jack.
DGAJack 2 years ago
The only people I have heard that had problems with servos, usually came after a crash. Real helis cannot take crashes either. If the gyro or servos will run for 5 minutes on the bench tesing on off, they usually will run for 5 years. My gyro never worked, but since I dont use it much, I didnt notice too bad. But in all the Spectrum radio was a selling point and why I bought mine. But I like to fly this helicopter, so I give it a thumbs up. Horizon has a good rep too and will take care of u.

how much flight time (hovering) do you get with the 1800 mAh battery? thanks
roflcopter221 2 years ago
and how long is the recharging time?
roflcopter221 2 years ago
About an Hour on a good charger.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
Hovering only, it is about 7 minutes max.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
NICE! I'm picking mine up tomorrow. I got a deal on it for $329, could'nt pass it up. Don't worry tho, I will promptly turn it into many little Blade 400's.
lol
(Maybe that's why they gave me such a deal....they could see me coming for parts...)

im getting totally confused by that remote lol so many buttons haha! i love the thing fly tho
u are one skilled flyer man looking at all ur reviews hey could u do one on cx3?or is the cx3 just the same as the cx2? couse i really dont think so :P gl making more vids :D
kalmathegratebassist 2 years ago
Thanks. If I get one, I will.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
The CX3 and 2 are essentially identical internally except for the heading hold gyro and the body. I like the 2 a little better then the 3 since the skids tend to break in the front in a hard landing (CX2 skids tend to hold up better in hard level landings), but both are great machines.
JMChladek 2 years ago
so if u want a good flying helicopter u should get cx2 and if u want one that looks a bit more scale then its cx3 and these skids arent to hard to replace just 4 screws? would be kinda stupid to need to buy new skids every week tho lol gonna cost a bit :P
kalmathegratebassist 2 years ago
Yeah, that sums up my thoughts about the CX3 nicely. It is not hard to replace the skids, but it can get annoying after a few breaks. Of course the bodies can always be swapped between the 2 and the 3 as well since the internals are the same except for the 3 in 1 gyro unit.
JMChladek 2 years ago
I have the blade mcx and have had it for a month or so. Iam actually starting to like
flying it. I must admit iam a bit eager to get
a blade 400...how different is it flying the
400...how much more practice should i get with the mcx. I sometimes get confused with the direction of the left right
but basically iam getting it. facing me opposite tail side normal direction.
Davidle141 2 years ago
It is so differnet that I would not recommend getting that one as a next step.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
I want buy this heli, but i only have the CX2, this is a bad starting with 6 CH helis? Or this heli is good to start (Sorry the bad english, i'm from Brazil, South America)
I'm waiting you reply...
Thank You...
HomeFilmsBR 2 years ago
Welcome Brazil. I always say, learn on a VW and if you never crash it then get the Porsche. This is not good to learn on, unless you have a qualified instructor for each flight. Good luck.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
Thanks, and Good Flights to You..
Bye Bye...
HomeFilmsBR 2 years ago
this prob sounds stupid but im new to rc heli's and whats a autorotation? i know what 3D is
fpsvincent142 2 years ago
That is when the engine is shut off and you spin the blades like a gyrocopter and still be able to land.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
It reminds me of an air hogs's toy that fly only like this,it has motors for pushing forward but no motor for blades, the blades are operated by spring and you must crank it,in order to start it. I never knew that its a difficult stunt for a real RC 3d heli... By the way this heli is far more expensive than the rest of the RTF competition(esky, walkera, etc) but i gues it is worth it cause of the dx6i and the rest of the electrics
IgorGiganskiANtiatom 2 years ago
its not stainless steel buddy, its aluminum. you cant anodize stainless
150peacemaker 2 years ago
Right. But the stainless steel parts on my helis are not anodized. On this one, the flybar, some linkages, main shaft and tail shaft are stainless. I guess I should have been more politically correct for you. Sorry.

its ok, i forgive

Thanks. Haha. This is cheap compared to some of the planes and helis I have owned and flown over the years, and well worth the money, which I earn and earned by working hard all my life. Thanks for the comments.

hi dave, i've been thinking of buying a 2,4ghz transmitter and can you advise the dx6i to me? how is the throttle stick feeling? is it nice and smooth? and is the programming of the pitch/throttle curves easy?
greetings from germany
roflcopter221 2 years ago
I like the D6i. The throttle stick is nice and smooth and it is very easy to program all the pitch points, throttle holds, curves expos, half rates, etc, etc for many different models. It has model match so will not run any plane or heli, until you switch it to the right one. Great radio, and Danke from USA.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
thanks very much!
roflcopter221 2 years ago
lol if all those planes are located at your house, dont tell anyone where you live! i have watched the video at the end befor , you sould have seen me fly or sould i say crash helicopters when i first got into the hobby of flying helis, lol!!! it was bad, but after sometime, and 150 dollars i got it.
