what a treat to have the beloved Ruth Lyons right here on youtube for everyone to enjoy.. she was the best and makes that idiot Oprah look like an amateur!
Bless you so much for posting this!! It was my mom's favorite Christmas song. Growing up in the Cincinnati area; I was able to to watch the 50-50 club when I'd be home sick. Each year with the count down of the Christmas Fund, and the lighting of the tree in the studio, it was magical. I've searched for this for many, many years; thank you for making this one of the happiest Christmas' in a long, long time.
Yes, to many of us Buckeyes, it just doesn't seem like Christmas without this. I don't ever recall seeing it on TV, we always listened on the radio, but it was just as exciting. (Must have been great to see the tree, though.) It was an annual ritual in our house, too, and when the Big Show arrived, it was Officially Christmas. I'll be posting both Ruby Wright Christmas songs on my Facebook page Sunday. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas.
THANK YOU for posting this video. Awesome to hear this song again that was a holiday hit in Columbus when I was 3 years old. My mom was a big 50-50 Club TV show fan, so we had this same single, and I remember it fondly still, though I haven't heard it probably in 45 years. Just flashed on it now, and here it is. Thanks again!

Well, today (12/19) would be the day - as I remember growing up - the last Sunday before Christmas was the day the kids had to surrender the radio to Mom. Because this was the day to end all days - the day of the final countdown of the Ruth Lyons Christmas Fund. It was that big. I think we eventually were able to send some of our allowance to the Christmas fund. It was a different time and a different place, and it was all so much better than now.
