What do you consider crappy music? Ok I don't understand. I don't want to take anything away from anyone who likes this music, but WHY do so many people sing its praises? It just seems to drift ambiguously along, with no clear point. Contrast Beethoven's 5th, Canon in D major, Vivaldi's Four Seasons, etc. This just seems like some random interlude. WHY do so many people like it? [I have allowed you to have YOUR taste in music; be civil and extend to me the same courtesy.]

funny you ask why this is held in high regard because I asked the same thing to a musician that loved it to death. He said its baseline is an important landmark in baroque music (I took his word for it even if i didn't understand his explanation) and also the relationship between the harmony and the melody the way they intertwine is impressive. It took me a while to apreciate it but when I was learning to play whiter shade of pale I began to like it.

The first time i heard this song I was seven years old, and even though it was new to me the feeling of longing embraced so abruptly that I began to cry silently in the theater. My grandma thought something was wrong with me. I told her it was the music, then her eyes became broken with tears and she cried too. This song was my grandfather's favorite song... He died three months before my mom was born. Until now every time I hear it, I see him in my mind even though I never knew him.
