the drums at about 4 minutes or so sound so much like the drums i remember from a get up kids recording, but i cant remember. probably recorded by the same crew.
I heard these guys first on Amped for xbox. I had to special order their album from the electric fetus cause I couldnt find it anywhere. This album helped me through some tough times and will last forever
@blink0r you are obviously retarded or deaf. the get up kids and the anniversary toured together all the time. ryan and this chick were even married. if you don't think four minute mile and designing a nervous breakdown are the same genre you need to have your ears checked. maybe you should be the one listening to the get up kids, you obviously forgot how they sounded.
i feel their music, rather than listening to it. if more people listened to the anniversary there would be more sensitivity, chivalry, romanticism, resilience, and kindness along with many other things. i hope they see these comments one day far from now and see what we have written, and has a pleasant feeling knowing they undoubtedly effected the lives of people. their music was and still is truly inspirational. this is an endearing comment for a band that still cheers me up years later. <3
I drove for four hours from D.C. to Pittsburgh to see them my senior year in high school. 2003. They were a bunch of assholes. The drummer was a jerk when we tried to talk with him. On of the singers broke the promoter's mic for no reason.
duly noted, friend. anything with either ian or guy (or both...this is not a fugazi post) pretty much trumps anything else, sans labels.
all that said, i very much like the anniversary. go and view fugazi's performance in dc protesting desert storm, esp. "turnover"...i know you prolly have, but it's a fucking cracker of a performance.
they're not "emo"..."emo" lived and died with rites of spring, with a eulogy by sunny day real estate. any one else claiming that label is just a poseur. and that's THAT.
This song came out when 'emo' was not a restrictive style of music. This was back when emo meant EMOtion and emotion didn't mean screaming and eyeliner.
@LastDispensation Quite true. I'm not really sure why most of this music got lumped into the "emo" category, to me emo = emotional hardcore, in fact I'm quite sure that's the definition. I'm really not feeling any hardcore roots at all. "Poppy college rock w/synths" is probably more like it. I do love The Anniversary and this song, but I really don't think it is "emo" at all.
My comment is over a year old and was aimed at the bands being "marketed" in the mainstream as emo from 2005 until the time of the comment.
Once upon a time (1990 - 2005ish) emo was an amazing freeform genre where a band like Mineral sat alongside Jawbreaker and a hardcore act like Poison the Well was every bit as emo as an experimental band like Cap 'n Jazz.
Somebody necro'ed my comment that was relevant to the tone of the comments a year ago, move along.
@MrMcGale For a selection of classic scream heavy emo bands I would suggest Thursday, Lifetime, Grade, Glassjaw (old stuff), Hopesfall, Boysetsfire, Planes Mistaken for Stars, Poison the Well, Beloved, and so on and so forth.
I again repeat my now year old statement, "...when 'emo' was not a restrictive style of music. This was back when emo meant EMOtion..." That is to say back when your music didn't have to sound a certain way to be classified as "emo" ie. prior to 2005.
@trouz69 Emo is all about the lyrics. It's about sad stories, love, broken hearts, suffering, depression, and the list goes on. There are no -real- Heavy Screamo Emo bands. Have you not heard of My Chemical Romance for example? Their lyrics follow those that I just said. Emotional music is the right term, but it changed because of lazy record companies who forgot to write. Sure, they scream in the songs sometimes, but it's not considered as the screwed up scream Heavy bands make.
i was too little to listen to them. i only just bought their album last month coz it was cheap and i needed new music. haha. turned out to be sooo good. i was so happy. this song is so great to listen to.
You see, I think any one who listens to (and, thus, LOVES) The Anni has a deep, deep emotional attachment to these songs...
And I have to say, watching the keyboardist poke her boot to the beat was prolly the most "star killer" moment I have ever experienced.
I mean this in a good way, i greatly enjoyed the vid, thx to BlankTV, and mega thanks to The Anniversary.

My sentiments exactly.

@trouz69 I think you have it backwards. Emo grew out of the late 80's hardcore scene and most of the formative bands screamed.

@trouz69 Emo has never been screaming. Screaming is for Metal and Heavy rock. Emo of now-days is very different from those.
