Now, didn't Donna reed not show up 'til near mid season? She was a decent replacement for Bel Geddes, but...she passed away not too long after she got the boot from the show...
Larry Hagman said it best, WHEN the producers tried to complete with DIENASTY, and do all this GLITZ, that is when it failed.
AND the season without Patrick Duffy was bad. But when in real life Jim Davis passed away, THEY should of NOT written it like that. They should of had someone replace Jim Davis's role. IT would of made more sense.
Dallas was good until Pam and Sue Ellen left. Dallas and Dynasty are the best televison shows ever. All i hope is they never try and bring the show's back, if would never be the same.
Donna Reed was quite good Ellie Ewing. Only the first episode shocked me a bit when she appeared but I get used her during that one season. She suited better to the Ewing family than Barbara Bel Geddes. That's a pity that she wasn't the first Ellie. However I like Geddes also.
@Pasquier82 I don't think that Donna was a better fit, as she didn't have the vim and vinegar that Barbara brought to the role - Donna was too 'nice' to J.R. compared to BBG, as she NEVER was afraid to stand up to him!
I am not gonna argue the point with you but the facts are on record from Donna Reed and Susan Howard another star who was fired from the show and had the balls to admit what they did to her - because she didnt agree with bringing Duffy back she felt it insulted the fans and she was right! Barbara fought long and hard for ALL the female cast to get equal pay to Hagman and Duffy and when Donna Reed stood up to Hagman she was fired to and he was instrumental in getting rid of her and Barbara back.
this was a good season - but why does everyone slate Donna Reed. Barbara Bel Geddes had her heart bypass during season 6 thats why she was missing for the first 14 episodes of season 6. She was sacked in 1985 in a dispute over why the women on the show earned less money than the male stars and she was right to query it. Lorimar needed a big name to replace her and Donna was picked she had an impossible job to do and she did her best give her a break she's not the villain here Lorimar are!!
Yep - many cast and crew members confirm in the Barbara Curran book (excellent, BTW, if you haven't read it) is that while the public reason for Bel Geddes' departure was "health reasons", in actuality it was over salary and length of work day.
nice theme opening sequence, but i can always remember just wanting to walk up that lane/avenue towards southfork house(maybe will someday)when it was in its heyday and still.hot weather, peace and great outdoors.whos the family living in southfork anyone know?
this season just came out on dvd and is not that bad! there are two main mysteries:is Mark Grayson still alive, and who relaly killed jenna shusband?some very suspensful scenes and cliffhangers.
Mark is meant to be alive,he comes back next season but its all a dream!
I think its mean to be Katherine who hired the assassin, because he says had orders to kill Nardo and frame Jenna, remember Katherine throws her glass at the tv when Jenna gets out.
Barbara returned for the remaining 6 year run of Dallas, I can admit that I never watched an episode, but looking at this opening theme I can so get hooked on this show
It just doesn't seem right without Barbara Bel Geddes up top. Still I agree this is the point where the show truly appreciated the enormous following it had.
This was the first time that Dallas had finally moved their opening credits footage from the rusty ass late 70s into the 80s. It was about friggin time!!!
Well granted, BUT it was ONLY 6 years later and any fan of dallas would watch the show for what it was anyhow although the opening credits were brilliantly well done and were an identity to the show itself.
Too bad this wasn't Dream Season. If Donna Reed was only there Pam could have made comments about how Miss Ellie just wasn't herself throughout the dream, giving a little extra humor to the show.
fake Miss Ellie! haha.I do like this theme though, i like that little bridgeish part that carries on for a few seconds getting louder and louder at the very end.
The dream was hard to buy for many fans, but really the only way to bring back Bobby in a believable way. And the 1986-1987-season is great, the downfall started when Pam left.
Barbara left the show due to health reasons, or due to a contract dispute, depending on whom you believe. Donna Reed stepped in, but the producers fired her when Barbara offered to return.
Donna Reed was not a good replacement. She was more glamourous wheres Barbera B.G was a bit frumpy in her summer dresses and her reading glasses on a neck chain. A more 'motherly' figure if you will.
I wouldn't say that BBG was 'frumpy' she was just more 'earthy', as she loved the land, and Southfork - plus, she had the real temperament to handle J.R. - Donna Reed was just too damn nice, like her character on her sitcom to be Miss Ellie!
Now, didn't Donna reed not show up 'til near mid season? She was a decent replacement for Bel Geddes, but...she passed away not too long after she got the boot from the show...

And if they ever bring the show back, which is highly unlikely, it wont be the same, I would watch it though! :D

You're right. Bringing old shows back with a complete new cast just does not work. It would be like a complete new show.

Every TV show has it's limit, going past series 8 is a great achievement, anything beyond that is a bonus for the true fan, long live JR.

I really like these Dallas credits even though its Donna Reed as Miss Ellie and not the one and only Barbara Bel Geddes.
I guess its because its just before Dallas got really silly with dream seasons,a really young wifr for J.R. and a long lost son who couldn't act!
