  • i love hoover

  • they are fantastic machines, very powerful you will need the thicker style of drive belt the thinner ones slip

  • got one of these at the weekend, my god what a machine! needed a good clean and service but it works so well.

  • nothing wrong with your hoover I have a c1300 which has been in my pub / hotel for the past 20 years and it is still going strong and that has picked up everything from cig's to bits of broken glass and it is used every day

  • Hi Andrew, yes the carbons did finally settle in. i use this hoover once or twice a week and the noise has lessend and the motor has freed up nicely

  • Hi David - did your carbons finally seat in and if so, did the noise go away that you were hearing? I've got a new in box Kirby that was 25 years old and it had fresh unseated carbons, and the motor was harder to turn by hand at first. It's now quieter and easier to spin now that I have about 6 or 7 hours on the machine. :-) -Andrew

  • Hi Jack,

Thankyou for telling me this i striped the motor down this afternoon and the bearings felt fine, after re assembly it was much quieter allthough i did notice that the copper on the communicator had a little give in it so that may be toast... so it could be a new armature possibly?

  • Hi Dave - after replacing carbon brushes, they need a little time to 'bed in' properly. After a period of use, you should find that noise lessens and eventually disappears.

Sometimes it's possible to speed up the bedding-in time by using a commutator stone, but unfortunately, the design of these Hoover motors means that it's not possible to access the commutator whilst the machine's running.
