@ww55d yeah, I know, the rubber mallet was a bit worse for wear, but it worked. Now we have a sledge hammer. :) I'm a firm believer in doing what you can with what you have at the time. If you wait to have the perfect tool for every job you'll either go broke or never start, much less finish a project! :)
@jamespratt7 actually we built these in 08' and they're still solid. Nothing has shifted or fallen apart. I think they'll last for many years to come. We also added a railing with posts in concrete. I still think that this was the best option for us and the slope we have. We haven't had any weed problems either.

Hmm - I hate to say it, but I agree with Chrisluux. You'll be lucky if those steps last more than a couple of years at best.
