  • Based on the info in the video, the Porsche should'nt be first.

  • I'm only guessing that C&D's excuse for not making the corvette win is "Oh, the Porsche's interior is just more refined" xD And their 0-60 time for the Vette was off, but the cayman's was tied with the 911 S? Yeah, sure.

    Poor Evora though, that car got smashed xD Love it but it's not made for track, more for canyons and Daily driving, which is does beautifully.

  • The Grand Sport with its special badging, and leather interior and hand built motor launch control dry sump oil pan wide body and fatass tires front lip spoiler (downforce) lower ride height special wheels and ZO6 brake upgrades make this one of the nicest looking corvettes I’ve seen. Especially if the targa top is color matched then the car seems to flow much better. Didn’t think I’d like the hash marks one bit til saw them on a red Grand Sport at which point my jaw literally dropped.

  • @Aquariansevenone Right! I even think it looks better than the Z06, especially with the targa top!!! All though I wouldn't choose it over a Z06 or ZR1 lol, but if I could afford a $60K car, I would really have trouble choosing between a brand new Grand Sport of a used Z06.

  • LOL never ceases to amaze me that no matter what the american car does it never wins. It tied, or came in 1st in every category except the lane change and comes in second? Wasn't this about the Sport ability of the car? And isn't the defining fact it's overall lap speed? And what about price? It's ok the corvette is again the best sports car for the money, entry, mid or exotic super car it continues to win for a fraction of the cost. People just hate to accept it.

  • @ffmcmav40 The ZR1 and the CTS-V are really good (only fools would disagree), and the Viper ACR was bonkers, too. But the Corvette C6 is really getting a bit long in the tooth... from the mechanical side it isn't bad, but the looks and (mainly) the interior need an overhaul.

  • @ffmcmav40 The Cayman's got a better chassis, better balance, better gearbox, better build quality and a better interior. It's the people like you that think all judging should be done purely by the numbers and there's way more to it than that.

  • These argument are so stupid. I bet not 1 of the guys, talking about racing, actually race. As far as I'm concerned, I'll get:

    Porsche (full amenities, fast, responsive, and can take a beating) for me,

    Lotus (Beautiful, fun and manageable) for the Mrs,

    and the Corvette....it's too "Hey, look at me!!!"

    I'd buy a fresh Corvette motor, put it in something else(Ex: RX-7), and whoop the snot out of a Corvette for 20-30K less :-D

  • This does show you that the Cayman is much more competant at competing with the Corvette than the 911, if only Porsche could have more powerful engines to compete with the Z06 and ZR1

  • Out of these three I would probably take the Vette. There are definitely cars I like more like the Z4 but just out of these the Corvette is my favorite :P

  • im more of an imports guy but the grand sport is simply my favorite super car of all time, for what you get for the money you cant beat it, I love its plain interior and styling it means its easy to maintain, and cheaper to fix if anything happens, the vette interior is the best

  • Would like to see the test run again with an Evora S, but then I gues you'd need to throw a 911 C4S in place of the cayman.... very interesting

  • Lotus looks the best, and has best handling, Corvette is the fast beast, and the porshe has a great luxury, a combination of these three for a low price would be AWESOME

  • The truly remarkable figure here is the Cayman's 0-60 time. Porsche claims that a PDK Cayman S will make the sprint in 4.6 seconds. If Car and Driver is to be believed, it can actually get to 60 in the same time as a Carrera S. In other words, the Cayman out-handles all the 911's and is just as fast. If only Porsche would admit that the Cayman is their best sports car.

  • You have to read the article to get a full understanding of what the author is trying to say. I own a Vette and a Porsche, and in my opinion the Porsche does handle better on city roads because it has a smoother ride over bumps. The Vette has a wider turning radius so don't park too close to anyone. The Porsche's interior quality is superior to the Vette's. But for all out performance you can't beat the Vette's power for the dollar. I will post another video soon of my Vette (Z06) vs. a Lotus:-)

  • Faster and better are two different things

    A Viper is probably faster than the Porsche too

    Doesn't mean it's a better sports car

    Vette's torque out of corners gets it a better lap time

    Porsche's ability to integrate brakes, handling, speed, and driver confidence gets it the win

  • I like the Lotus best, then the 'Vette, then the Cayman. They're still all great cars, though.

  • I like the video but how do you evaluate the results? Corvette showed the same numbers on the skid pad and 0-60 and had the faster lap time. if anything, it had to be a draw, but for the sport car, the lap time goes before far more subjective lane change test

  • american cars get a lot of stick on top gear uk, i think the corvette is an animal, sounds great and has a monster v8, love the new camaro and challenger, but you guys fucked up with the new charger, oh and the mustang is amazing too, love the rausch version, sorry if i mis spelt that

  • The Vette is the oddball here. Porsche and Lotus put their money into handling and comfort, while GM spent it on a huge engine. I'll admit, the Evora's low power output is disappointing. The new Cayman S is easily the best sportscar on the market. Weighing in at under 3000 lbs, combined with its mid-engine layout and limited slip diff, it out handles nearly every road-going vehicle. It's 320 hp engine provides more than enough power. I wouldn't get the PDK gearbox, though. Manual for me!

Porsche has decided that tailoring to the guy in the suit is better than making a car for the drivers experience. It still has some soul just not like the old ones did. I also realize you are trying to make fun of me... I dont know how I missed the same spelling error twice, but I guess that is what you decided to focus on in your response so Im assuming you have no knowledgable response on the subject.

  • So the Corvette was faster in every way and came in second?...You think the porche had a better driver experience?. NO!. The porche wont let you do anything without first going through a mass of computers (Which can disconnect a driver). Even when you turn off the driver assists the computer still has more control than you (Thats just not ideal from a sports car). Porche has become nothing but a marketing badge sorry. Corvette doesnt disconnect you in any way should you choose so it should win.

  • @bighunt08 I have a c6 zo6. I fell disconnected from the road when i drive and put it to the limit. The streeting is heavy and sluggish. I have never driven a caymen s, but I did drive a 03 carrera. Even then the steering was crisp and sharp. Even still the vette is faster and more practical than all the cars in the test. 0 to 60 mph test are deceptive. 0 to 150mph is a better truth of the cars performance.

  • @bighunt08 the vette has over 100hp more than the Porsche and the difference was very very very little so in the end the Porsche is better.

  • The vette is best overall performance cost etc. and it looks far better than the other two. But all 3 are good cars.

  • Porsche knows how to get the details right. Its not just about being fast because all three cars are fast. Its how the car communicates to the driver, accepts inputs, and delivers responses, how confident it feels doing what it does at 10/10ths, and how fun it is to drive. The Cayman is world class because it doesnt compromise details to the driver that understands them.

    2 seconds difference in lap times at 100 mph is over 20 car lengths. And which one costs less, has more trunk space, better mpg, AND faster? My money goes to the vette.

    For a sport car ONLY "a couple of seconds" is the same as between an intact condom and the one with a tiny whole in it. Whether you win the race or not. Also, if you spend a few minutes to convert 2 sec at their average speed, it won't seem pathetic a lot.

  • I don't understand all the hate for the corvette. Yes, its made by GM an american company, but you have to admit it kicks ass. I'm a BMW fanboy and will admit that corvettes will wipe the floor with most beemers in a straight line. The only things i hate about corvettes is that theres no class, american styling, and garbage interior. Nonetheless, good job GM.

  • Three nice vehicles for different reasons. I own two (Corvettes 90 and 95 ZR-1) and would appreciate any of these three in my garage.

    by this test it show cayman is more faster but why corvette did 2:02.9 and cayman 2:05.1

  • @mc2thebestbrnick The Corvette was faster in a straightline which is why I don't rely on track times as a major source when it comes to performance. But, for me, I want steering to feel easier for a sports car which fits the Cayman.

  • I don't understand how the Cayman won over the Vette. The Corvette did everything faster, had a better lap time, AND is cheaper, yet the Cayman won? Things like drivability and comfort were not expressed AT ALL in this review, only empirical evidence so opinions should have no bearing on the outcome.

    Terrible review Car and Driver. Learn to leave our biases out. If you're going to give a fact only based review, judge your outcome on those facts.

  • @ZNOLMT Car and Driver judges them on everything together. I have their magazine subscription and the Porche won due to interior/exterior styling and over all fit and finish. The Vette had very very high advantage in performance although it lossed a lot of points where the porche dominated in. I think they need to do a different rating system

  • @ZNOLMT but also I wouldn't worry about it too much. The corvette is harder to drive fast than the other 2 cars and that is why we see varying 0-60 times as well as 1/4 mile. Its like the E92 M3 which we have seen tested anywhere from 12.8@110 all the to 12.3@114 which is total crap. The 2011 Corvettes will have the magnetic ride control option for a few extra grand and then we will start seeing the vette get the ratings it deserves. the interior does suck though :P

  • @RealGame22 well the porsche has a lot more day to day usability and is a much better daily driver in my opinion. i do like the vette because of its bargain price but i would take the porsche

  • @RealGame22 Maybe, they held the speed at a lane change in a higher priority than the fastest lap time b/c that includes the straights. It looks like for them a sports car should have competant handling and FOUR miles/hour is HUGE which might have impressed them which led to the Cayman being there as it should be.

  • The Corvette looks really good, but man the interior is REALLY crappy....that's what would stop me from buying one (that and not having the money to buy one). The styling for the Evora and the Cayman S aren't really my cup of tea, but if I had to get one of these cars it would be the Porsche for sure.

    Now the Boxter S on the other hand.....HOTNESS!

  • I respect all cars here but I'd never buy them for 50-70 grand.. better yet a slightly used C6 Z06 or 993/996 Turbo or 08 M3 for 50 grand.
