  • what is the point of all this? Is it comparing "new and fast" to old equipment that is not bogged down with bloatware?

  • That MacBook is slow, I've got G4 machines that startup faster. The boot has been altered with that colored Apple logo so I'm not surprised.

  • Even my bargain-basement HP laptop beats your Apple, and it was built the same year!

  • LOL the lower spec apple computer won the more advanced model.

  • Looks like the Mac SE won so am going to have to buy that instead of the macbook who needs 2Ghz when you have 8 MHz XD

  • SE: doo-doo-doo-doooo dooo-dooo-dooo-doooooo doooo-doooo-doooo-doooooooo (sad mac)

  • I have an se sitt'n right next to me. Im suprised that they have faster startup than computers today. They work great

  • i hate when people compare their old world macintoshes to EFI or BIOS based machines.

The brilliant engineering of the macintosh ROM was the reason the SE is faster. Basically all the APIs are in ROM, which makes the machine blazing fast. IIRC, the first version of the system and finder were under 40k in size.

  • I should try this with mac classic and classic II Since I have macbook 06 model

  • left one pwns all

  • Did something happen with the HDD light for the SE?

  • Good observation. I replaced the original disk a few years ago with a replacement (original disk failed after only 20 years... piece of junk!) The replacement disk didn't seem to have a connector for the activity indicator.

  • 20 years is pretty good for a hard drive. I learned it's good to have a spare SE for parts. I believe the 20 and 40 mb drives had the activity light connector. The later Macs didn't come with that option.

  • @zeleftikam If you use Norton disk utility you can get an extension that will give you a little blinking hard drive by your finder. Or just listen to the awesome SCSI HDD loading sounds. When my macbook is on I never have any idea when the disk is running, its silent. Also if you use your macbook at a desk and take the battery out, the cooling fan will almost never come on. The battery seems to be the only thing that makes the fans come on. Youtube all day with a silent macbook, try it out

  • You fail with your macbook...

  • Google BootXChanger. It'll change your boot screen.

  • how do you put the multicolor apple on the start of your macbook 2007? I want to put it on mine!!

  • holy Sh@# 2000MHZ

  • ^^ How you change your boot screen??

  • 8mhz completely and utterly PWNING 2000mhz! hahahaha!!!

  • I may be a macbook owner but still why does it seem the newer computers are lower than the old ones?

  • Its because of all the big space requirments for the new macs and big applications it has to load

  • okay thank you, make sense to me

  • The reason is that the older computers hardely have anything to load. That hard drive was probably less than one gigabite, maybe a few megs. So while the new mac may seem slower, it is actually faster because it is able to load a much larger amount of data in a short time period.

  • Newer programs and computers have to think more so we can think less... and we all love pretty interfaces...

  • @areahighone cuz they have more software and more complex kernel systems to load, i guess.

  • That is the sound of the switch on the back of the SE.

  • well you macbook i very slow...

min boots in around 20 sek ...

  • My SE is faster than that. It boots in 15.

  • Actually im not surprised.

  • Atari ST can beat 40 seconds easily, but that's because it has the OS in ROM. Nonetheless, I am a big fan of the Mac SE/30. Fantasticly looking machine. The laptopt on the right looks cheesy compared with the Mac SE/30, at least to my taste. Since I grew up in the 80's, most of the things from the 80's look cool to me, sincy my taste had developed at that time. Alright, I am old. Sorry, can't do anything about it.

  • Heck yes.

  • @dvamateur 40 seconds? My Macintosh SE can do 20, or even less on good days.

  • Windows Swallow!

  • LMFAO That is the best comeback ever LOL.

  • Thanks toots!

  • Long Live Macintosh! :D

  • gotta love the compact mac's AIO design...

  • 8 Mhz? thats quite poor ^^

  • how did you change the Apple logo on the Macbook?

  • Google "Bootxchanger"

  • thx

  • rather pointless comparison imho
