In a 1985 interview, Mercury said of Austin, " To me, she was my common-law wife. To me, it was a marriage." He also wrote several songs about Austin, the most notable of which is "Love of My Life". Mercury was also the godfather of Mary's oldest son, Richard.

I read in a book that Freddie Mercury actually really liked Dominique a lot. They shared their experience of being sick, she with having breast cancer, and he with his AIDS. So they became close and bonded well with each other. :(

Great pics and vid! I have always wondered why Roger and his wife have stayed married. I read that it was a "marriage of convenience" and that Roger wanted to ensure that his kids with Dom would be "taken care of." I don't really understand that. His kids would be taken care of, no matter what plus he has kids with Deborah. What about those children? Are they NOT taken care of because he never married their Mum? Oh well..none of my business. Just curious.

@annasumner yes - Freddie loved Dominique very much. They were good friends until his death. Freddie shared his AIDS diagnosis with her very early on. She had breast cancer and shared that with him, so he wanted to share with her and let her know she could lean on him and that he understood. Also, Freddie and Mary Austin were witnesses when Dom and Roger got married in 1988. Roger went to live with Debbie Leng not long after, but Freddie and Dom remained close.
