What kind of grading system are you talking about! Every gym ive been to (ive pretty much been everywhere because i compete) uses the vermin grading system! The color tape means nothing opposed to the grade!
I agree with what you're saying, all Gyms I've been to just use a sharpie on the tape to describe the route. But perhaps at that specific gym they have the orange color tape to show what a v.1 is and maybe the green color tape for example is a v.5. As it's easier to find a colored tape route rather than looking at the beginning of the route to see it what is written on the tape. and there is a display board hanging up somewhere detailing that. my .02 cents
None of these things are standard, and in fact I've never been to a gym that used a grading system anything like this. All the places I've been to simply use YDS and Hueco Tanks "Vermin" grading systems. This is sorta a stupid video.
There are some routes with numbers. I understand your hands have to be on them but your feet can use any holds. Also u do not need to go in order for the numbers. Anyone correct me on this?
On most routes past 5.6 indoors, your feet have to be on the colored tape as well. It should say at the bottom of the route. You don't need to go in the order at all but it helps to see where you climb at.
I'd climb on top of his wife anytime...
