  • Great playing and a cracking soulful voice! Love the version - really works for me. Like me, you love the Doc! I first her him on radio 2 when i was 12, now im 31 in a few weeks and love his kinda stuff. Saw the man live in Sheffield early 2000. Your a true dedicated musician who loves it - so keep it up. Looking forward to some more performances. All the best! Paul aka Mr Milg :-)

  • i think the internet is really robbing art of it's virulence and vitality... it's not always a good thing when things are a mouse- click away. The investigative process is compromised and a lot of this is due to the digital revolution. Any comments?

  • awesome

  • Thanks for the compliment...that New Orleans goodness makes me tick.

  • cool performance, you need to cajunify your look though..lose the straight shirt, and preppy jeans, and let your hair grow a litte...and don't broadcast yourself on youtube...all great ways to be hipper!

    or do whatever you want!

  • I've gotten the same advice in the past but all I can be is Gary Ellis... nothing more or less. Keep the music rollin'!

  • hey man, you're right! THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT! you sound great!

  • i loved your version, some really soulful deep in the gut feeling with the chord changes in the middle of the intro and the flourish of 11th chords topping it off, it's the way i aspire to play one day, please psychically transmit your knowledge to me

  • Thanks for the listen. You can order "Dr John Teaches New Orleans Piano" Cd's from Home Spun Video and find that same arrangement (done infintily better by him of course). If your personal chops can break onto that level you can do exactly what I did. Do have fun...

  • Very good listen to Jon Cleary & the Dirty Rice band you will love it and get a lot of ideas

  • Like it, well done! Have you seen the James Booker clips on Youtube?

  • are you serious?

  • yes

  • I meant you have the gift just work on phrasing. And develop your ideas without over playing. But you are very good

  • ...you sound like a musician, where's your video?

  • wow ytou are good i wish i was as good as you !!! you are my insparation!!!

  • I couldn't help but smile when I read your comment! Thank you very much and please continue to play...it's how we get by.

    Gary Ellis

  • I've gotten a hand-full of nice compliments, thank you very much for yours.

  • a very good version of Dr John's version!

  • ...you nailed me! I confess, I stole it. I'm not near creative enough to pull-off something that cool.

  • dude plz tell me were u learnt this such presence about it

  • it's taken we a while to respond. I pulled this arrangement from a video series called "Dr John Teaches New Orleans Piano." The videos are loaded with this kind of stuff and are fun to learn from. If you google "homespun videos" you'll find it. Good luck with your playing.
