I played this on my laptop when I had bought my lovely cat Barney back from the vets after losing him, I played it really softly whilst his little soul went to heaven, barney was my child substitute for 18 lovely years. RIP my little fella. This is such a beautiful song with such emotion.
mejor banda del mundo lejos, comparenla con cualquier carrera de otra banda, lejos marillion nro 1 , viva marillion amo marillion saludos de ARGENTINA
My husband just loved this band. He passed away 4 years ago on March 17th, 2006. Today, 3-17-10 is the anniversary, and I'm playing the Afraid of Sunlight album right this very minute. I hope you can hear it, Gary, I have it nice and loud for you! I miss you so very much. Love, Jane
@Shaddoedenise - We are comprised of energy u cannot destroy energy, we are eternal beings, there is no such thing as death of the soul, only the body..
Gary (who had great taste in music..) has simply gone home..! x
@SovereignBeing Yes, you are absolutely right. I know I'll see him again. I will want him to take me to a rock concert. Our whole marriage was based on rock music!
Still gives me shivers down ma spine from the very first note to the last.......excellent!! still one of ma favs and am off to see ex lead vocal Fish at Crathes Castle 14th of this month!
C.D's are Compact Discs, which are used for some form of data storage. I don't know how they work, all I know is nearly all of the music I own is stored on them, and they are usually overpriced.
Basically, the world's current most popular music medium other than MP3 (I think)
Why is that? A lot of musicans smokes on stage (Slash, for example) - I don't care what he's doing on the stage, I care about the music they're performing. And, especially in this case, the performance is flawless.
From 4:20 to 4:40, where's that lush, expansive, rolling synth sound that Mark used on the studio recording? That section just sounds empty here without it.
imho this song and indeed whole AoS album can only be judged by its studio version... this is a great performance, but only whole of the album makes sense and draws pictures.. and u r not exposed to this profaned shooting.. ;)
I can't understand the everlasting discussion about who is the better singer. There can't be any doubt that Fish was a great singer with a great charisma and great performance on stage. Hogarth is different, but very good in his own way. Different music, different singers, both good in their ways.
Great song I really like them but have just discovered them I assume Fish used to be the singer? does he sound like this guy? I love this song Thanx for posting
Yeah, Fish was in the band at first. I don't think their voices are alike, really. I much prefer Hogarth's to Fish's. Early Marillion is still awesome, though.
this is a classic song. all that marillion stand for is good. they have rocked my world for so long. H has the best voice ever. cannibal surf babe proves their wonderfulness. also clutching at straws and easter are the most amazing pieces of music (historic) Neverland is amazing and mr.rothery's guitar is what keeps me sane. God bless you mrH, mrRothery, mrKelly, mrTrewavas & mrMosely ... You are the engine of my soul. peace, love and good happiness .. x
Marillion are much better without Fish. Steve Hogarth has given the band a new leasse of life. They would have been finished by now if Fish had remained.
But can you deny that Bono and hogarth are skilled singers? I love both eras of Marillion though. Just buy fish's Cds and move on. As "clutching" and fish's albums show, They would've gone in a more pop direction even if Hogarth hadn't joined.
Please stop arguing about who is better, I think it was a good thing Hogarth joined, Now they are like two good bands. Also, why is your name marillion forever if you hate them now?... (I had to abridge this comment)
Actually, Fish left the band before 1989. Steve Hogarth has been with the band since then. A very different sound, takes some getting used to if you liked Fish. The band has put out a tremendous amount of work since Fish left, more than when he was in the band. They are still an incredible band.
Without FISH Marillion losted the old touch of magic....the brighty shine, the fantasy dreams, the kaleidoscopic colors...all had faded away...it's really sad!
Several albums ago, yes, but who can blame us for loving such a great song. Phish has his own particular style but Hogart is just great and this song suits his melancholic emo way perfectly. One of the most powerful lyrics I've ever heard and one of the best songs in music history. Thank you for posting.
Marillion created the soundtrack of my life, each song reminds me of something. This album is one of the Top 100 in rock history together with Brave and Season's End. Hogarth is by far better than Fish even though less popular.
For me, the Greatest Band I've heard or seen live, and as a fitting tribute, this is for me their finest piece of work. The lyric, "I'm Already dead, it's a matter of time" utter genius. If you could pick a studio to be present in while a song was recorded that was just utterly perfect it would be this, with the Verve's Bittersweet a close 2nd. Fabulous
What a version! If this doesn't move you, then you're dead!

Scared of sunlight?...
...All your byzantine excuses
Given time, given you away
Don't be surprised when daylight comes
To find that memory prick your thumbs
You'll tell them where to run to hide
I'm already dead
It's a matter of time..."
