Love the GFX for the universe, except the game is too small! (OR speed is just way too fast.). Seeing him get so close to that planet so quickly, or alternatively, seeing the planet grow so big in such a short distance traveled, means the scale isnt at all the same as it was in wing commander privateer. I was actually looking up stuff right now cause im playing the original in DOSbox on windows 7.
To me, this is what got me hooked on Eve Online. I still love Eve-O as the type of gameplay it is, but the whole mess of "If you have a billion isk you can buy godmode ships and solopwn everyone" got to me..
Anyway, the best option for DOSbox is definitely to create a folder and a subfolder, copy your CD of WC:privateer to the subfolder, then when you mount a CD rom (D drive as its called in DOS and thus DOSbox), you simply mount d C:\folder, where this folder is your CD pile
@MrJohnny56789 Then you go to D drive in DOSbox, and CD\subfolder, to get the D drive pointing at your files of privateer CD that you copied. Then go back to the mounted C:\ folder that you made for the game, type priv (or RF if you beat prif, want insanely harder enemies, a new storyline, and more ship toys to play with), and enjoy!.
Oh, if joysticks are an issue, or if you prefer keyboard moves or dont have a joystick, turn joystick off in DOSbox files, and then u can select mouse or key in
@MrJohnny56789 select mouse movement or keyboard in the game. if youre used to keyboard movement, and know that the mouse will emulate joystick, as joysticks try to go back to centered automatically via springs, while a mouse dont on your pad (obviously), then mouse move will feel akward, although Im sure its good once you're used to it. Otherwise joystick or bust.
This game is so godly its still persisting at 20 years old. That says something about it. Its producing near faithful spinoffs too
Well, I want to like it. I really do. I've installed it, played it and un-installed it many times, on many different machines. It's just not as fun as the original, which is still on my machine (never left) and get's played at least once a week to this day. Sorry guys, but the complaints about the difficulty, and what not, are true IMO and kill the whole experience for me. I'll add that the superior graphics are just too slow, for me, even on a 3gHz machine. Too bad. I very great effort.
this is made in vega strike engine , all icons of guns/commodities are removed , also game is insanely hard and they have removed invulnerability + unlimited ammo ; of course it is a good attempt of remaking a classic but unless you are a masochist stay away from it.
Pretty good game(especially since it's free), but I often end up suddenly ambushed and outnumbered with at least one ship that's better than mine, and I get quickly pulverized before I can really do anything(even on easiest). Wingmen don't often help, since they are generated pretty much as far away as possible for some reason. From what I heard, the original was not this hard. Do you know of any mods or fixes to make the difficulty a bit more reasonable?
@LordNifty There is differences like this to the original but also there are a few differences than the original. If I can remember correctly that might help is that you can also buy "Auto Tracking" and have the ability to turn it on or off so that your guns automatically aim at the enemy that might help slightly.
@LordNifty there are ways to beef up your ship early on to give you an edge and gain fusion weapons and enhanced upgrades a little early. If you load a game during the RF campaign then load an earlier game pre-rf, you will notice the other upgrades and fusion weaponry available for purchase and those fusion guns are a life saver. And I'm playing it on max difficulty. Get a Galaxy with two fusion guns on the front and two fusion turrets that fire on auto and that added fire power will help.
@LordNifty probably what you might have missed was purchasing auto tracking. While turrets don't auto track, your front guns will as long as the enemy is in your sites but an enemy can easily dodge direct fire so the better your firing velocity the more likely you will hit your target. Use FF misssles, however I find missles a waste and rarely use them except when using torpedos on captital ships.
@LordNifty if fighting is not your strong suit, then upgrade your Galaxy to 225 cargo specs and just outurn you opponents. With the early upgrades, you should be able to outrun at 884 KPS velocity and jump. When it comes time for combat, use a Gothri, Centurion, or Stiletto (fastest). Pretty fun but can get old because of all the money you need later on to purchase the Drayman and Paradigm.
@LordNifty to make money quick buy the drayman(s) after the Oxford missions and find an increase in compensation for your cargo runs. Then upgrade other ships and buy what you need. Good luck and happy privateering.
@1994AnimalCrossing It's a remake of the original Wing Commander Privateer game that was for DOS with the original storyline and Rightrous Fire addon as well as some new storylines. But not sure where it's gone to now but there is also another remake and the website is still up "Privateer Gemini Gold" is the other remake.
Doesn't look like space. Gemini Gold has a more authentic feel to it

Do you have any footage of Privateer Parallel Universe?
LordNifty 6 months ago
@LordNifty I'd like to see some of that. I got Windows 7, and for some reason PU won't launch on my comp.
