I remember when this scene first aired last summer. I thought I was imagining Adam reuniting with a former gay lover. I see now I wasn't drunk or imagining. This is truly a first for Y & R. I know because I've been a loyal fan(until the Mac & Billy cousin-plot twist). In the past Y & R has always shyed away from portraying gay/lesbian relationships or civil union portrayals. I agree with you finylvingy66 Y & R has been unrealistic in this aspect!

Duh! Kissing between two men on an American soap is still a no no. Remember how long it took Luke and Noah on ATWT? And then how long it took them to do it again? Compare it to any European soap like VL, AWZ, Spangas, Eastenders, the Hollyoaks. We are YEARS behind it :-( Is there any hope at all?

I've been watching Y & R since '81 and I believe Rafe is the first gay character I've seen. This is ridiculous, considering the hundreds of characters that have passed through this show. I like a soap to have some sense of realism, and denying that

there are gay people around is certainly not realistic. Besides, think how many gay people would watch if they had some

characters to root for.

i think Adam is sadistic... first he tortures a pregnant woman who has been nothing but nice to him and makes her lose her baby and then cleans her of the evidence which is nasty but then he use Rafe's feelings and sexuality against him all to further his psycho plans. i'm not surprised Engen didn't want to play this, Adam gets worse and worse everyday.

i hope when this is over they do an actual positive gay s/l.

everyone keeps saying that adam needed heather because he wanted to wash off his experience with Rafe. Personally, I'm hoping he enjoyed it with rafe, and then wanted to reassure himself of his sexuality by inviting over heather. Just my little fantasy :)

There is no limit to what Adam will do to get out of a jam. I just hope that Rafe doesn't get used like Heather. It's difficult to put your feelings out there like that only to be crushed by reality. Adam is a rat. I hope all his dirty tricks come back to haunt him for the rest of his life.

I have to disagree with you on that one. Even trying to con Rafe, I don't think he could have bottomed. But just the notion of having any sort of sexual contact with Rafe was so repugnant to Adam because he's straight, that he had to bring Heather over to "wash it away." Over the commercial break we saw he showered, and he probably had a drink or two as well. Same thing happens when a guy picks up a cross dresser.

Adam isn't confused in his sexuality. He's straight. He's sleeping with Rafe because he painted himself into a corner. This story isn't a romance or a coming out story. It's about a manipulator who just may be getting manipulated tight back.

It looks like Rafe will be toting with Adam to get the evidence he needs to prove his Aunt Estella is innocent.

Adam played a dangerous game and Rafe has upped the ante. :-)

I agree, and I hate that the only "gay" story on this show ever is nothing but a gay man being played.

I'm just wondering if Adam will realize that he has some feelings for Rafe while he's deceiving him, and the writers will use his repressed sexuality as a way to try to explain away why he's been so emotionally bankrupt and Rafe will be his true love. Or not. They better do something to make this story good.

I know what you mean. On the one hand, it's about time Y&R addressed a gay storyline, being so politically backward it's stunning. But that they'd break it in with this type of story really sucks. What's worse is that it propigates the myth that homosexuality is a "disease you can contract". I really hope that they'll develop a healthier alternative to this storyline.
