  • Sounds a lot like some of Keith Richards stuff.

  • Sexy as hell

  • holy shit

  • Tom u old devil, u make me melt!!!

  • best version of this song i reckon!.

  • ça me donne du baume au coeur!

  • pur régale

  • Tom's voice makes the littlest hairs stand up on the back of my neck, like a poltergeist's breath. I mean that's in some way a musical talent, no he's not Mariah Carey but we all can't sing about Butterflies.

  • What the fuck do people get out of judging his voice. He can sing how he wants to sing. One of the best artists ever. Listen to Closing Time or The Early Years and tell me he cant sing. Some very strange people in the world to come and watch a Tom Waits video and then post something bad about him. It's mental. Go and get put down

  • I want to be Tom Waits if I could sing like this!

  • There was a saying in the showbusiness "If you're different, you're good". Some people made a living out of that.

  • Best voice ever. So much heart, so much soul, so much character. This voice has seen some things. This voice can tell you a story. This voice has absolute credibility.

  • Tom Waits Can Do No Wrong

  • Waits is the musician that will be remembered generations from now when all the fads burn out...classic, rooted in americana, and innovative...we look up howlin wolf and son house...our grandchildren will be looking up this man

  • talent and sincerity = genius= TOM WAITS

  • 25 people must have had there brain removed !!!

  • tom waits is good at acting, but singing is not his forte in my opinion. is just raspy and not good. sure acquired taste and whatever, but there is no denying he is last on the list of people that covered this song

  • @ShamuLesbo

Are you kidding? This is the best cover of this song there is. Tom Waits is one of the few honest singers out there. His version includes the pain of loving and the fear of rejection and the sordidness of our animalism and the lingering, echoing loneliness between two people, even as the drift out on the Sea of Love. Forget all you've ever learned about technique and listen with your heart. Tom's is easily the most creative cover of this song.

  • @MrCallipygian i see what you're saying, but i respectfully disagree

  • @ShamuLesbo Fair enough. If "rasp" is a problem for you might enjoy some of his earlier recordings. Can actually can sing quite smoothly--when he wants to. He is much more diverse than your average vocalist.

  • @ShamuLesbo This is my favourite cover of them all!

  • Hey there's a music video for this song. I saw it in TheMissmusicvids channel. xd

  • raw perfection...

  • @smoothstringsron Like Leonard Cohen, he's an acquired taste.

  • @smoothstringsron you suck !

  • @smoothstringsron Well, it's not tone-deafness. He doesn't miss a note. He's just got what could be considered a bad tone. I'm not sure you can call him a bad singer. His pitch is fine, and his tone is clearly purposeful, as it's something he's toyed with throughout his career.

  • @smoothstringsron I suppose Louis Armstrong's froggy voice is awful as well to your Superior ear especially while croaking out What a Wonderful World. I have a handmade bamboo windchime that I love to hear plonking out the tunes of the wind, sounds more raw and natural than my neighbors store bought metal windchime though they both sound great singing the same breezy melodies.....

  • @smoothstringsron What the fuck man ? I mean, I really am fucking surprised. Tom Waits has one of the most special voices I have ever heard.

He is a great actor, a great song writer and a GREAT singer. He is a true artist and you come here and say he can not sing a shit. Again ..what the fuck man ?

  • @JeremyTheWicked028

    ^Listen^.

    Now, how is this unhorrible?

  • @JeremyTheWicked028 I like it. I like Tom Waits. But maybe musical tastes mustn't be discussed, I don't know.

  • My god, that guitar.

  • :-)

  • simply great.......

  • personally not my favourite version. not keen on his voice, unique though it is

  • @rexorrama I quite like his voice. It's unique.

  • @rexorrama Its in the eye of the beholder. I think personally he amazing. he can translate his emotions in to sounds that are unbelievably powerful. I rarely see any one with this sort of power around today. I mean ray lamontagne its also awesome but thats besides thee point. Its not about how u sound just how much soul you put in it.

Listen to Waits's earlier stuff like martha, cold cold ground, Ol'55 you'll probably like that more.

  • @rexorrama Because he's a fantastic songwriter.

  • @rexorrama Like Leonard Cohen, he's an acquired taste. If you don't like him, you don't have to listen to him.

  • Exactly on point. This arrangement also reminds me of John Cale's version of Heartbreak Hotel. Welcome to the Dark Side!

  • @rexorrama you suck.

  • @stiggyh Yeah, but i don't suck as bad as Tom Waits "singing".

  • @rexorrama

Yeah, but whatever you think of Tom Waits he is not so pathetic as to be trolling youtube comments trying to lob insults in a fruitless attempt to raise his self esteem.

And you'll never have a fraction of the success with your voice as Mr. Waits has had with his.

  • @P0PH0USE Big deal, Tom Waits will never be as successful as Bieber. Success obviously doesn't equal

quality. A lot of sucky artists are successful. And my personal opinion is this Waits singing sucks big time. Not the person, just his so called "singing" IMO. You being a person who's into personal attacks, should maybe consider some self evaluation, before pronouncing judgment on others. Thank you.

  • @rexorrama wow!!!....just wow......How can you exist?

  • @TheMaddd9 Well, not subjecting myself to listening to Tom Waits sounding like a warthog caught in a running garbage disposal, goes a long ways towards that.

  • @rexorrama My comment has nothing to do with your love for clean voices but more with the fact that you can't appreciate talent and originality when you hear it (I'm not talking about this cover; more on a global view of his career)... Also, it has to do with your judgement on what type of artist should become famous... How can you judge others taste in music or on whatever else? You can't... Well, obviously you can, but there's no right or wrong here...

  • @TheMaddd9 Whaaa?

  • @TheLimecutter This guy's singing sucks. How did he become popular?

  • The song is pretty muted. I actually enjoy it more than the original. It ebbs and flows, and has a sort of watery quality. Not quite as ethereal as some of his tracks, with its driving bass rhythm, but fairly so. I love all things Waits, though. =)

  • just heard this track for the first time a couple months ago on k.c.r.w. radio l.a..... had no idea it was in the movie.... thought it was a recently recorded track....i love it...

  • actually i like ( sea of love ) film so much when i heard that song in the credit i liked it !

  • What a superb rendition. One of the few covers that kick the original's bollocks!

  • what an amazing version , favourite

  • Why... Why... Has all the good Tom stuff been pulled. What are YOU (Record Companies) People protecting! Access to live videos! LET IT GO! It FUELS YOUR BRAND! Please... Let the old Tom videos back on.... Where elese can we see them for chrissake.... Ticketmaster?

  • Crazy movie. Al Pacino is a God!

  • Tom Waits you are a genius, this is my favourite version of the song by far.

  • this is the best version.... very hot song!

  • I enjoy this version much better then any other. It's darker, more emotional, and the introduced concept of "drowning" in the sea of love is brilliant. It's that alone that adds such a gothic vibe to it.

I do a cover of this version, yet still a good bit different. It's on my channel if anyone wishes to view it.

  • I enjoy everything this man does. Even songs that aren't his, he's got that earthly quality, that passion that really fills my heart with emotions every time.

  • Generally I love you Tom but your interpretation of this song to put it politely leaves a bit to be desired. Stick to your own songs.

  • I absolutely love Tom Waits and despise Cat Power, but I actually think the Cat Power cover is better. Can't believe I'm writing this. (and no, I don't think Cat Power are even remotely in the same league as Tom Waits, I wana make that clear). YSF

  • To grab this mp3 goto audioripit doht cohm.

  • he's terrific ,but i sound just like him after a night on the turps and a thousand cigarettes , truely

  • I'd follow Tom Waits into snake-infested waters.

  • i dont like this

  • im drunk/stoned and i fukin luv THIS

  • @tagvendorfi yeaaaaaaaahhh ;)

  • great song and great film!

  • he is no phil phillips the original singer of this song

  • oooooooooo, beautifully

  • I've just heard this for the first time. At first, I wasn't sure, but by the end of it, I loved it. I'm still struggling to get the syrup out of my head from Robert Plant's version, though! Heh heh.

  • this movie is classic!

  • Movie is good

  • Can someone tell me if the movie is this good? =D

  • @cascasoldier Not that I recall. :-)

  • @cascasoldier movie is good

  • @cascasoldier yes it is a good movie well worth watching, very underrated,.. pacino and john goodman are both great in it, and ellen barkins in her prime.

  • Every move with Pacino is good

  • @cascasoldier it's worth watching. good enoug. tom waits only sings in the closing credits and does nothing else.

  • @cascasoldier Its worth watching on a weekend where you just want to watch an Al Pacino kinda movie.

  • @cascasoldier Very good, dont miss

  • @cascasoldier Yes, it is! 7/8 of 10 :)

  • 3 stars out of 4. It has some great acting but the end is weak.

  • 3 stars out of 4. It has some great acting but the ending is weak.

  • @cascasoldier The film is great. Pachino and Barkin are hot. Neo noir at its best.

    R

  • @cascasoldier worth a watch al is great as usual

  • @cascasoldier The film is very strong and very good acting! True!

  • @cascasoldier yeah its good. its one of those 80-90s sex-noir flicks like Jade, to live and die in LA, basic instinct

  • @cascasoldier I remember it been good. Al Pacino was good anyway.

  • @cascasoldier

    of course it's good

they show Al in his underpants.... there's not much better than that.... oh wait...Crusing and Panic in Needle Park...you can see Al without his underpants.... yeah..that's better...sorry

  • If you like cop/suspense movies and Pacino watch it. It's got some fairly good twists. You won't hear this theme song until the very end though.

  • interesting fact!: tom waits writes 1-3 songs each day

  • Temazo.

  • worst :(

  • Supremo

  • Sea Of Love

  • One of the most original and legitimate talents alive today, to be sure!

  • INGENIOUSLY....

  • @PoetryinMotion99 - Yeah oh yeah.Tom's growlin lyrics off-set by the clear simple guitar line. Quite deadly, indeed

  • Tom Waits growls it out like no one else can. yeah oh yeah

  • j'aime beaucoup cette version. merci de le partager.

  • @anothergunner Actually the song is pretty flat and monotonous, isn't it? For me, the name is not what sold me on it because when I first heard this during the closing credits of "Sea of Love" I didn't know who Tom Waits was. After one verse I knew I had to have it and purchased the soundtrack immediately after the movie. A short time later I purchased my first Tom Waits album and it's been an ongoing love affair ever since. :-)

  • @Parmenides320 nice im glad you liked it that much, just didnt do it for me :D have you heard Cat Power's version.... now that was completely compelling!

  • @Parmenides320 its weird how most tom waits songs are like that its like he is just too damn good at being boring and i say that in a good way

  • @anothergunner

This is a classical "Tom Waits" version.

I suppose you dont't like Tom Waits!

    :)

    PS: me neither

  • @custre ya cheers no, not a huge tom waits fan, but he certainly has some interesting and even very good tunes.. this? not one of them, imho

  • @anothergunner I bet you like the Cat Power version

  • @anothergunner if you think this is flat you really dont understand this men

well i also like cat power version

  • @anothergunner oh yeah i forgot how Tom Waits is such a sell out

  • @BountyHunter233 tis ok, dont expect much

  • this was at the end of Juno, too. not tom wait's version

  • @BeastyDave13 Cat Power;s version?

  • @budspott yes, youtube it, ace rendition

  • wow this cover sukks

  • @arab4lifemuslim4ever I can see you are an expert in music. Well said..Let's listen to some pop songs! that's more like it!!!

  • @FrankMiller999 umm...i said the fucking cover sux...

  • This is great!

  • best version of the song ever lol

  • and the telephone is out of cigarettes...and the jukebox has to take a leak.......

  • I personally like Cat Power's cover better, but her's has a completely different feel.

This song makes me want to fuck someone in a swanky hotel or some shit... and yet, for some reason I like it.

  • I love his voice, its unique

  • And on the 7th God rested, then on the 8th he got up early and made Tom Waits. He conjures with music and words. If you own no other, get Swordfish Trombones."The menus were all freezing"

    Sublime.

  • I LOVE YOY,ANIA, THANKS

  • I love the Orphans Vinyl collection, but I really wish Tom released this one song as a '45. I could play that one song on my record player for hours on end. And if I get in guitar, this is the first song I'm trying out.

  • Just saw Sea of Love movie and was intrigued by this song at the end. I'm hearing it for the second time and will hear it again. I'm liking it.

  • i saw this movie 4 the first time tonight. i heard this song at the end of the movie,

and fell in love with it. i still like the original version, but this is jamming, and i don't like remakes, but this is alright!

  • Huge fan of Tom Waits for years, love the movie too, a very thorough crimi with the the kmost exciting duo - Al Pacino and Ellen Barkin.

  • *shudder*

    i need a cigarette.

  • A great artist Tom Waits..respect.

  • thanks for the great pictues too!

  • Just saw the movie last night on Netflix. I heard this version of the song and really digg it.

I always heard the name Tom Waits, but never really bothered looking into it. Until now, I think I'm going to check out more of his work.

  • Congratulations. You're Life is about to change.

  • if you've never looked in to Tom Waits get ready for a journey of a life time. there is no one else like Tom Waits.

  • No one compares with Tom, he is a rare genius!! He gets to me like no one else.

  • at times i think John C Riley looks like Tom

    0:28

  • This is very sexy ... Sensual and passionate! His voice always gets me ;)

  • ..maravillosamente decadente...sensual...magnifico...

  • i dig.......

hop over and listen to cat power sing it!

  • Great version; the slobbery vocals just make it more real, ya dig?

  • love this version... and the Original, they both are the greatest!

  • cookie monster sings...

  • Rare and superb music !

  • Thank you!

Well done with the pictures, and I sure

am glad you 'found' Tom Waits!!!

  • I wonder if he'd be more popular if he just worked on his diction. His lyrics are wonderful and full of pathos. I enjoy his husky voice. He's emotional. Quirky as hell. More interesting than anybody who covers his songs. It's just if you don't read the lyrics, you might not get em. And they're too good not to get.

  • I don't know I think that shaky kind of unclear diction is part of his style. It's like dylan kind of. I kind of think another reason that he's not so popular is some the stylistic choices he makes which are just STRANGE XD . But I prefer to be part of the small group in the know anyway.

  • Comment removed

  • I feel his diction is deliberately like that. It's a crucial part of his vocal style, :).

  • Anyone know what guitar Tom plays , that small bodied brown one he's been using for years. Its seen at 1.20 in this slide show, any ideas??

  • @kurisensei. I couldn't agree more !

  • i like more robert plant version =D

  • covers of Tom's songs are never as good as his own versions.... and his cover versions are always the best....

  • I hadn't thought it that way... how strangely true.

  • @kurisensei Yeah, Tom Waits is sort of like Joe Cocker, in the sense that their cover versions are usually at least as good as the original, and sometimes better, and always a bit edgier and bluesy. Of course his originals are great, too. And when a film maker knows how to use them, the result is perfection. Check out "Innocent When You Dream" at the end of "Smoke".

  • @kurisensei Cibelle has a good cover on Green Grass. But yeah, that's about it.

  • yes its sucha cool song. ^:)^

  • WOW!! GREAT SONG!!!!!!!!!!

  • Waits songs are magic, aren't they? :)

  • @mumiaszek yes

  • MY favorite version of this song, used at the end credits of the movie. thank you for uploading, thank you, thank you. i like the other versions too, honeydrippers, cat powers, and others, including phil philipps

  • When the end credits of Sea of Love started rolling I thought, "I have GOT to get this song!" I believe I bought the soundtrack the next day. It was my introduction to Tom Waits.

  • My feeling exactly! In my opinion, Waits' version is the most passionate and powerful!

  • "I wanna tell how much i love, drowning in a sea of love"

Even with his covers his own wee touches shine.

Tom's the man - the mad cunt.

  • I love it!!!!the best song..<3
