It depends on what you chose - keeping defying Veronica and you get more and more volts but if you chicken out and have Lucia sumbit then she isn't "punished" as much. It's braver for Karin/Lucia to keep defying Veronica and pass out with their pride/will intact for not sumbitting to serving Veronica - now that's them being real hot chicks! ;) Iron will power - Never give up just to escape the torture, even passing out from the pain is better than that.

no, the main character is straight but two of the shop keepers are gay and you find porn mags to get them to make stuff for you.

The main character (Yuri) isn't gay. He had a lover in the first (Alice) and I think Karin is sweet on him in this one. The shopkeepers are extremely gay though, and the only way you can get dresses for Ghepetto's doll, Cornelia, is to collect 'stud' cards.

Lots of games have torture scenes. If you wanna be technical, MGS ripped it off from some movie, and that movie ripped it off somewhere else, and etc. It's a endless chain, because it's been done. And will continue to be done. Torture is universal. It occurs in real life, and it can occur in games. Just because it occurs in one game doesn't mean it belongs to that game, especially when it was done years before.

These games (with maybe exception to the third shadow hearts) are my all time favourite. Koudelka was an amazing game ahead of its time for the PS1, and while SH was also meant for the PS1 (and has poor graphics for a PS2 game) it is still pretty kickass. Yuri is awesome (and you get to help him earn his title godslayer). Characters aren't as ridiculous, though still awesome (though a priest's daughter in an outfit that parodies a schoolgirl outfit is kind of ridiculous.)
