I've actually never had any problems with loosing data. I have a 4GB SD card I use for personal documents, so that works well if I have to reinstall Windows so I dont have to back up a lot of data.
It happends, everything mechanichal dies in time, or due a crash, or other problems. PC is not a museum piece, is a mechanical / electronical device used day by day. I use partitions since MS invented fdisk command and I recomand to all people who I know to use a partition, and in last years happend to destroy cylindres or even the little engine from a HDD that is spinning the disks. It happends
In my opinion and personal use - safety first. Using a second partition or a separate HDD for data made me feel sefe. I`m working on "large data using" domain,I`m using 1.2 Tb of data, and loosing something is the end for me.
If my C crash, will not boot, or get a nasty virus behind the process and things, eating my .exe files or whatever ... desinfectionwill never work with worms "eating" .exe files, so I prefer spending 30 more minutes to format and reinstall Win OS without loosing any data.
WOW... I had that background before! Reminds me of back then! BTW, I have a 120GB hard drive for my Vista PC, it's great though because I know how to save space! =D
177GB Free out of 220GB.
Is that good?
I needa know because I love the game I play, MicroVolts... Q_Q

@Musa1927 If you want tons of media and apps, probably not. But just for the OS and stuff online, that'll do.

What size of hard disk would you recommend for window XP ? Thanks.

About 5GB less than Vista is a good rule. For basic user: 30GB or so. For media user: 160GB of more.

Never use C (or default Partition for data, only OS), if u get bad virus (or HDD crash) .. bye bye data.
Use small 80Gb for OS and another 500 Gb separate for data, or just 1 big and partition it.

Dude, just be careful what you do physically with it and virtually and you, like me, should not have any problems. :)
