  • I was a soldier in Viet Nam for two straight years (I extended twice), and as a Mormon, I attended district conferences of the Mormon church at China Beach and at Camp Tien Shah in Da Nang.

I went on R&R to Japan and Australia from Da Nang.

When I left Viet Nam, it was from Da Nang, with the 101st Airborne on 21 February 1972(?) (At least, that's what my Form 20 says, but I can't remember.).

  • I was working out of NSA (camp Tien sha) 69-71 . I have been going back for a little more than 10 years. I like to help other vets get back to where they want to go. If your a vet wanting to go back its a good time to go. Things are changing fast now. when I first went back it was almost unchanged. Its changed a lot in the last 5 years. I dont charge to help you get where you want to go if you go when Im going. Going again soon 2 or 3 months. vietnamextreme03@yahoo.com

  • I have three Original Cruise Books Naval Support Activity, Da Nang.

Two are from 1966-67 one is from 1968. You can cut/paste this shortcut address to see photos and information on one of the 1966-67 books: Go to Military.Com Classified Ads and search for Naval Support Acivity you will find the 1966-67. Check out all my original Vietnam War Items listed.

    Welcome Home Brothers: Phil Sampley

  • @1stLog I followed your instructions but the input/search format yielded nothing. I was stationed at Camp Tien Shaw 1966-67 and stood rotating watches at China beach PX (in country R&R), Deep Water Piers, covered storage etc. At age 17 I was beginning my one year tour, now at 63, many sights sounds and smells are fading from memory, I would like to see your Cruise Books, it seems so far away and so long ago. (my email is jahjr2002@yahoo.com) Regards, James A Hartley Walkerton, In.

  • the only thing a video like this doesnt offer is the smell from that place....diesel smoke.....things rotting from the heat......and the ever present sound of a chopper in the air

  • Thanks for the memories. I was part of the Australian Navy EOD Team (CDT3)based at Camp Tien Sha during 1970/'71.

  • I was there 71-72 aboard the USS Reclaimer, a salvage ship, doing demolition, clean up and other shit in and around the harbor. Strange to see these films now. Never forget spending Christmas there and picking up supplies from a larger cargo ship. Looked up from our landing craft to see a " live" Christmas tree being lowered down to us. It was surreal...Really, the whole freekin thing was a surreal trip. Think I need a joint now. Thanks for the memories!

  • Was there 71-72. This looks like it was taken a little earlier.

  • @steve27612006 You're right. This looks to be mid to late sixties, when the money was rolling in. Inthe early '70's, money is going away....different look.
