lmao it funny how vicki lawrence is playing mama and everyone else is older than her and in 1963 she would've only been 14 but she's playing a 60 or 70 year old woman lol
How lucky we are to have Carol Burnett entertaining us... and with such a great comic team behind her...love the Family sketches!!
But Burnett is so versatile as an actress that she suits almost any role... Does anyone have a copy of 'The tenth month' ... I think it was made in 1979? If you could upload it, I'm sure it would be much appreciated by all.

@butchboy13 No, Alan Alda played Eunice's brother Larry in one skit. I uploaded that skit: "Merry Christmas Mama." Ken Berry played Phil in the "Eunice"
@ChrisC11291980 Thats the point. Self-absorb and secretly jealous of Phil's accomplishments. Mama doesn't understand as she wants her children to kiss her ass, while Eunice yearns to have Phil's talents- talent period.
Eunice doesn't seem to have a good grip on reality when it comes to her dreams of being in showbiz. She thinks it'll all get handed to her on a silver platter but in reality, she needed to work for it, otherwise, she never would've asked what if
To rippedwrangler: Mama had 4 children. Phillip, Vinton, Eunice and Ellen. Ellen was played by Betty White (from the Mary Tyler Moore Show and later Golden Girls). Mama says her name in this clip.
To rippedwrangler: If i remember correctly, Mama's 4 children from the sketches were Phillip, Eunice, (Mary) Ellen, and Jack (played by Tommy Smothers). Vinton was introduced on the Mama's Family shows.
Somone help me: the kids were played by Roddy McDowell, Alan Alda, Tommy Smothers, Carol Burnett and Betty White - that's 5.
And therein lies the self-worship that dominates over the dysfunctional family; manipulation, deceit; a scheming malice that serves not the other but only the self, though in a passive-aggressive manner seems to subtly be the opposite. Ned had to criticize Phil's success because of his own feelings of inadequacy, augmented by Eunice's subtle criticisms of his livelihood.
if your talking about the show she actually chocked on the toothpick when Mama threw open the bathroom door with the tail of a catfist in between her teeth and said "be glad you didnt have fish" because they had some all you can eat buffet at the Jigger
"Eunice" was a special that was made in 1981 and aired in early 1982 on CBS. In some ways more dramatic in content than comedic, "Eunice" has never seen a release on VHS or DVD since it first aired.
at least Eunice is interested in what Phil has to say, well; sorta, because mama and that bimbo ed, fail to realize that he was not only a writer, but a succesfull one at that!
Ed seems to allude to Phillip's occupation as being effeminite as he talks about his son Billy being a "sissy" by writing a lot. Was Phillip's character gay and they never acknowledged it? Sorry for reading too deep into this but I was just curious.
More than likely, Philip was gay, and Billy might also have been like that, too. But sometimes, I think that Ed was like that, too, or at least could have been driven to living with Mickey Hart because of Eunice and Mrs. Harper.
I really think that was an unspoken underlying idea, that Philip was gay. Casting Roddy McDowall as the original Philip certainly didn't do anything to diminish that idea. I assume that Jerry Dalton was his boyhood friend, maybe the only other gay guy he knew in the little hick town.
Not exactly. Vint probably evolved from Thelma's son Jack from the Family sketches (he was only seen once). Philip seems to get erased from the Mama's family "universe" after the TV movie "Eunice," although in one of the Mama's family episodes she mentions having 4 small children underfoot, and in another episode states that Eunice was her third child. Since it was made clear that Vint was youngest, that left open the possibility of a 4th sibling who was never mentioned by name in"Mama's Family."
@Dan97LHS "Ed seems to allude to Phillip's occupation as being effeminite as he talks about his son Billy being a "sissy" by writing a lot. Was Phillip's character gay and they never acknowledged it? Sorry for reading too deep into this but I was just curious."
What you wrote was Damn good script analysis! Yes I believe he was gay. Brilliant deduction.
I don't think that the Philip character ever really fit in to the concept of this series. Watching the Family reunion on the Vicki Lawrence show, Vinton said that he was the first male "dumb blonde" in tv. I think that works better for this character.
IMO, I think Vint only worked in the latter half of "Mama's Family". He wasn't quite AS dumb in the beginning.
I like Phillip as a contrast to the rest of the family. He doesn't fit, but that's why he works...for me. Maybe it is just because I can relate to him.
Iola's mother was never shown, and Carl was only shown briefly in 1 flashback episode.
Bubba is Eunice's son, and he occasionally referrred to her lack of love for him, which explains why he moved in with Thelma. Vinton's 1st wife ran off to be a showgirl, and his high school crush, Naomi Oates, met him and his children, Buzz and Sonia, when he moved in with Thelma. Iola just sort of popped up out of nowhere.
LOL @ dumb cluck!

Wasn't this the pilot for the Eunice show that she decide not do when she and Joe divorced? And them they went forward with Mama's Family.

Eunice didn't really care about Phil's success as a writer. She just thought of him as her meal ticket into show business
