  • I want to take those SSTV sounds and wake someone up with them in the middle of the night. Freak them the fuck out.

  • ive been using mmstv to find what these are go and try them urself or ill post a webpage with the pics

pm me and tell me what u guys want

  • from the beginning to 0:37 all we have is just morse code

  • Can somebody help me? I have my mic on stereo mix, and im playing these sound files but my sstv image still come out green/pink. are there any options i need to change to get an image?

  • @DUFreeperbuddy You'll need to straight loop it to and fro. Rerecording isn't really the optimal.

  • @VampNinja89 I fixed it. It was the slant thing.

  • THIS IS GODDAMN CREEPY!!!!! yeah, my research have conclouded that they were ``announcing`` portal 2, and maybe HL2E3, but, does anyone know what valve have said about all this? answer me please!!!!!1

    Thanks.

  • @zh91111

It's actually pretty cool--I stumbled upon it when I was looking at the Half-Life wikia page.

If you search for "Portal ARG" on that wikia, it'll bring up the page that explains it all.

The developers had a blast with all their memes and whatnot, it seems :P

  • ... Is there any other sstv transmissions anyone has found?

  • Dont know whether this has been commented before, or whether people already know this but the sounds that are not morce code are SSTV (Slow Scan TV) Using a program such as mmsstv you can decode these noices to reveal images. Very cool technology (also very old)

  • As Ln6Ec said its encoded images. Artworks of Portal 2 in ASCII...

  • well this works on sstv

  • Yes they are. Some people actualy managed to decode them.

  • I've heard it said that the ones that aren't Morse code are encoded images using fax protocol. Whether that's true or not is beyond me since I've never had a fax machine in my life.

  • @Ln6Ec no its not a fax machine... trust me, they try to kill your ears... but the sounds of a fax are more similar to dial-up than this.

  • @rayehino You're right, it's not a fax machine sound. It's the sound of an SSTV image. If you have the right software, you can view the picture from the sound file.

  • @Ln6Ec which i dont have... but there is such a thing as the interwebs!!! *goes surching*

    love the LOL though...

  • dinosaaauuurr rawr

  • missimetctiveeternaldlineaketemessatdigestatteueiet thats what i decoded

  • anyhone has a clue what the morsecode means?

  • 4 peoples heads exploded when they heard this

  • when i first throwed the radio through the fizzler after "the update" I nearly shit my pants

  • Cool! i love artoo-dee-two

  • i dont know if this is a good thing but my legged twitched while i was listening to this

  • I don't understand how people are able to figure out this stuff. I guess I'm dumb.

  • Can someone translate morse code? If you can you deserve cake.

  • Beep beep beep... you sure have this life thing figured out, simple beeping radio.

  • Guys use MMSSTV

  • @and84914 how do you use it thpugh mines not working

  • @and84914 how do you use it though mines not working

  • Its so wonderfull when you heard the morse part

  • The other sound are picture... You need decod

  • This is fuckin metal!!

  • I swear my cat can see this shit in his head. He's sitting here listening and his ears are twitching like satelights and he's making weird eyes, like he's freaked.

  • when can you hear them on the raidos?

  • May no Lyrebird ever hear this & try it as a mating call.

  • The Morse Code decoded for your pleasure:

INTERIOR TRANSMISSION ACTIVE EXTERNAL DATA LINE ACTIVE MESSAGE DIGEST ACTIVE

    9E1Ø7D9D372BB6826BD81D3542A419D6

SYSTEM DATA DUMP ACTIVE USER BACKUP ACTIVE PASSWORD BACKUP ACTIVE

The other parts are Slow-Scan Television and are images, and therefore can't be posted here. There are YouTube videos about this, look it up, as "portal sstv"

    de KI6USU

  • @ThatBum5 Im decoding them as i watch this

  • Yeah, the mode is Robot 36. They added some realistic interference to the transmissions too. If you want the meaning to the strange messages, Google "portal sstv pictures" (no quotes) and hit the second link, in the Portal Puzzle Wiki. There is quite a story behind it, and it relates to Portal 2.

    Read on!

  • this is why we love valve. they encode images in formats that were irrelevant by 1980, in sound files, of MORSE CODE as a way to announce a game

also love the contrast effects in the video picture :)

  • holy jizzus those output images are kool

  • Use a BBS software and type in 425-822-5251...... Valve just amazes me with this. They would never "Troll" to loyal fans. This is the biggest spoof of the world!

  • They see vALVE trollin'

  • sounds like first half sounds like a arabic cleric

  • One of the Morse code things is saying a series of the words "Beep" and "Beeep," which turns out to be Morse code for "LOL."

    XD VALVe is brilliant!

  • My ears!!! I stopped at 1:00, it was too much.

  • has any1 solved this image puzzle yet? or are we on a endless quest that valve made to keep us occupied until more of their games come out?

  • use a program called MMSTV and it translates the signals into imkages confusing images

  • Valve either just created an epic conspiracy for the fans...or they just screwed us over and they are mocking us....

  • they have a list of all known facts about Portal 2 on the overwiki.

    co-op is going to ROCK

  • @halfdude

yeah this shit be totally craaazzzy stuff dude!

  • So they are updating Portal with Portal 2 codes?

Well then, back to the Test Chambers with me

  • Hey, I'm having trouble finding the radios in the test chambers. I can't seem to find any of them, does anyone know why?

  • @ShadowtheHedgehog105 Did your Portal update? Check its properties to see if it updates automatically or not. Update it.

  • Can someone interpret this morse code? lol

  • @Snowyjoe66 its already translated Search up "RXSSTV Portal" And Be amazed

  • @Snowyjoe66

    It says dinosaur.

  • i think it is really awesome that valve is trying to tie their world together with our world, it give a completely different feel to the game.

  • wish someone could decode the ones in morse code coz i want to know what they say so bad :[

  • You dont want to know what it means. It's just valve trolling D:< (Right to left face)

  • You don't know VALVe if you weren't expecting something to keep players entertained while they worked on Portal 2.

I personally think that they want us to solve the mystery before they release more information.

Because when you think about all this, plus the Portal BBS, you understand that Portal is more tied to the real world than most video games ever.

You have to understand that this is what some gamers live for.

tl;dr Portal 2 is being tied to Portal 1 with some awesome mystery

  • God damn Dial-up...

  • I just read about all this crazy decoding and stuff the fans are doing of this stuff. Frankly I'm amazed, Valve is doing some crazy detailed stuff here leaving all these crazy clues! Does anyone know where are these clues are leading us? Have any of the clues revealed anything about Portal 2?

  • That shit is creepy

  • portal 2 is coming out for the holidays... HIZZWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nice song!!! Im totally diging Ambient-Industrial Noise!!!

  • Valve are crazy xD

  • 1. Morse Code=

interior transmission active external dataline active message digest active

    2. 9e107d9d372bb6826bd81d3542a419d6

    3. system data dump active user backup active password backup active

  • The last one is LOL!

  • By last one I mean fourth =D

  • The morse codes and SSTV signals are decoded and made into images. The images are shot taken inside the Borealis.

  • link to pic

  • Morse Code? Valve, you card.

They're screwing with us like pros.

  • I forget who it was, but some people had put this through a program that changes morse code into pictures and all these codes turned out to be real pictures of stuff that even had the Aperture Science logo on them.

Found it on the Steampowered forum.

  • the wierd static after morse code could be GLaDOS booting.... or just random shat from Valve making us conspire

  • @MegamanForWii

It's neither. Those are images, decode all the dinosaur files and it shows various images which is believed to tie in with Portal 2 or Half-Life Episode 3.

  • This was a triumph.

I'm making morse code, HUGE SUCESS

It's hard for all to translate these mesages.

    Apeature Science

  • *Tin Foil Hat Emoticon*

    <:|

  • it's actually kinda scary, and by kinda I mean really. what if it's some tone that fucks with your mind (I-dozer anyone?)

  • +1

I was scared of that too.. :)

  • A Number station?

    Nice.

  • this is kinda creepy. I know its a puzzle game and all, but... seriously?

  • This SONG IS THE SHIT! I LOVE I-

    Wait.

  • LOL one of the messages are Beeeep Beep Beep Beeep...

  • and I hear if you translate the beep beep beep from morris code you get "LOL"

Sounds like something valve woudl do.

  • ....."Morris"?

  • *ducks as something goes right over his head*

  • The weird sounds are image transmissions. Some guy over at steam forums transcoded them and got some weird pics with aperture science logos, skulls, number and letter combinations and a BBS number with numbers wiped over. Creepy stuff. Steam thread: 1169218

  • W T F ! ?

  • whats the song name at 3:10

    holy shit

  • HOLY SHIT

  • i dont like morse code (even if its not)

    its so fricking creepy:(

  • u like the part that goes beep beep

  • DAS IS JA MAL GANZ GROßER MÜLL.

  • lol, it's cool

  • Use RX sstv it worked straight away for me :-)

  • download MMSSTV (google it) run it while running this video

  • It sounds like a numbers station transmission. the polyphonic tones are similar to those used to tune shortwave receivers to pick up a numbers station broadcast.

  • whats the point of all the sounds being added?

  • It''s hinting at something. People decoded it all, though. Head to Kotaku, they have the decoded images and stuff up.

  • Well they reveal clues to maybe portal 2 :D

  • I heard something about numbers and they could link to a release date to either portal 2 half life episode 3 of css2? :O exciting stuff.

  • they found out a date 3.11, thats the date where Valve is one the game developers conference

  • definetly not css2

  • yeah , maybe my expectations are too high haha

  • Come to think of it, you can make some deep shit (story-wise) out of something as simple as Portal.

  • the end translates to LOL

  • HAHAHA REALLY?! awesome.

  • @ChilledLemons the end as in the end of the Morse code clips. not the SSTV clips

  • Is anyone else here creeped out?

  • ME O.o

  • Anyone know if the after part is sstv? Sounds like it :O

  • @dwoclan yes it is. the images are awesome.

  • Ahhh music to my ears

  • The first one is morse code.

The rest are signals for the Ham radio.

  • actually the non morse ones were sstv signals which we were able to convert to images. images gave us a bbs number, which gave us ascii art that looks to be concept art of portal 2/ep 3

  • Anyone know binary?

  • its morse *facepalm*

  • well the first part

  • i like the part where it goes beep beep

  • I think she's rebooting OMG its bad very bad ...(Maybe a zoophile version of POrtal XD )

  • i watched my dad play this game a couple months ago and we're all surprised that the game may not be over!!!!!!!!!!!

  • they are CRAZY!!!! they're like criminal masterminds making video games!!!!!!!!!!! they're soooo coool!!!!

  • I decoded something, I'll post a video as soon as I save it on my PC

  • I have decoded this:

    „Interior transmission active

    External data line active

    Message digest active

    System data dump active

    User back up active

    Password back up active

„The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog

„beep beeeep beep beep beeeep beeeep beeeep beep beeeep beep beep

  • I have some unfortunate news about the last bit - the "beep beeeep beep beep beeeep beeeep beeeep beep beeeep beep beep"...

THOSE bleeps seem to decode into "LOL"...

    How quaint.

    ~~Nemzal~~

  • Great, much more accurate than what my software translated.

  • it works! how awesome

  • Holy shit, that other sounds are images ! Decode it with RX SSTV !

  • :( my parents think that I help aliens

  • which kind? illegal aliens or space aliens? because you know, the space aliens type aren't illegal... The problem is when people cross nearby borders, not come from distant stars... Kinda weird huh?

  • it might be related to the borealis and HL 2 EP3, maybe after GLaDOS was destroyed, the ship sent out a signal, the resistance or combine found it.

  • Glados trying to compose rave music

  • @NotRaPoSa0CiNzEnTa

    He did well i guess!

  • Now She just needs the Cheat to make her a Music Video...

  • Fully agree...

BTW this sounds better than when Britney Spears and Lady GaGas sings...

  • Possibility this ties into HL when you think about Mossman transmitting encryption...

  • FUCK yeah..

  • It's GLaDOS trying to talk to us D:

  • @DrVekk Yeah XD

  • 3.11 --> Portal 2 announcement, I am sure

  • first morse -- used app for morse decode---

ERROR TRANSMISSION ACTIVE EXTERNAL DATA LINE ACTIVE MESSAGE DIGEST ACTIVE T

  • From 7:20 to 7:51 :

    System Data Dump Active

    User Backup Active

    Password Backup Active

I didn't realized there was other morse in the audio messages...

    Thx Morse-it !

  • Fucking love this game & valve

  • Some of those noises sound like they could be loaded on a Spectrum or other cassette based old computer.

  • Creepy...)))

  • Is the second message RTTY?

  • bet its some sort of a message from the Borealis.

  • This made Portal like 300x times creepier xD

  • Well if you think of it, who in the modern day uses morse code... ships; and who was on a ship recently if we check in the Half Life universe? ;3

  • Gordon freeman!

  • @Rahfzerz

There's that ice breaker that was... present. In some transmissions. Mossman. The rabbit hole goes deeper.

  • Ships, military, intelligence, planes (ILS, DME), and some ohters ...

  • @alphajet2145

Yeah, but you've got to remember the Combine are in control/taking control... so the military is probably VERY disorganized or even disbanded at the moment. The only vehicle we know of in the Half Life universe that could have used morse is the Borealis :P... not to mention these are Portal sounds and the Borealis is owned by Aperture Science

  • Valve is insane, good game.

  • you can pull images from these sounds, link is here forums.steampowered. com / forums/showthread .php ? t = 1169218

  • Ham radio operators can do the same. usually sending photos via sound.

  • She's rebooting...

  • The morse code translation :

    Interior Transmission Active

    External Data Line Active

    Message Digest Active

    So it's just an introduction...

Decoded with Morse It from my iPhone, I knew it would prove usefull some day !!! WOHOOO

  • A Morse translator? That's pretty crafty.

  • man, that's one epic beat the first 30sec.

  • DAEMONS ARE COMING!!!!

  • listening to this is scary. GLaDOS is an evil bitch...... which is why its scary :D lol

  • The first part of the morse is "interior transmission active external data line active message digest active"

at least thats what i got from cwGet

  • Oh my god...She's back! D:

  • Half Life 2 episode 3 or Portal 2 is my guess.

  • or both :)

  • MultiPSK can decode the non-morse sections. Select your soundcard as input, click on RX/TX screen, and then click on SSTV next to Amateur modes.

  • They've figured out the non-morse code portions are actually SSTV encoded pictures and posted them over in the Valve forums. I can't post a link Youtube keeps blocking the comment.

  • Freakin me out.

  • Interior transmission active

    External data line active

    Message digest active

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog

    System data dump active

    User back up active

    Password back up active

    Beep beep beep beep lol

  • @UnevenPavement0 Is that really a complete translation?

  • Need to insert all the images between each morse code transmission.

  • Well, the first word is "hello"

  • how polite!

  • I will flip if some Half-Life 2: Episode Three / Portal 2 news is right around the corner.

  • This is pretty creepy, I admit it. But a secret nonetheless. There is a slight possibility of a sequel.

  • "9E107D9D372BB6826BD81D3542A419D6" translates to "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog"
