  • 100 miles per gallon---of air, really?

  • miles per gallon...... Do you have any idea how much energy it would take to compress a gallon of air to a liquid state? Honestly the "greenist" thing you could do at the moment is restore or reuse a older vehicle. Becuse production of a new vehicle (prius included) generates x10 more emissions just from the production than the old vehicle would generate in a lifetime of use. Its better to salvage and reuse the old rather than making a newer more effienct one from scratch.

  • it's funny how there have been gasoline engines around for a while that deliver more horsepower and higher MPG.

    Are they practical transportation?

No, but more practical than this.

  • This would be an effective vehicle to use in areas that are plagued by smog. They still need to consume energy from an outside source to initially charge the air storage tank but it would not cause the vehicle to pollute in the congested areas. I don't see it replacing regular vehicles all together but it might very well have its niche market.

  • @unclemikeb Yeah right . The actual range of 5 miles will be a winner. NOT!

  • The question is, what powers the steam production? What fuel source? What are the impacts using such fuel? What are the alternatives?

  • Newsflash: These cars are NOT powered by air. Compressed air is not a fuel. It is an energy carrier. Like a driveshaft or a battery. There is no perpetual motion. Like an electric car, this car is powered by fuels such as coal. Are people really this stupid?

  • @Cotronixco

Coal power plants are far more efficient than gasoline engines, so even with line losses transporting electricity to the air pump, it still is much better than a gas engine which wastes the majority of the fuel's energy as heat.

  • @rickcain2320 Are you out of your mind? Gasoline is cheaper than electricity 96% of the time. And you're telling me that the price of coal will never increase? Gasoline produces 33.6kWh/gallon. Do the math.

  • stupid quote. its not 100 miles per gallon, but 100 miles per refill.

this is 2011 and i havnt seen anything more than the airpod. Airpod has a max speed of 45kmph and can be driven even without a license. acceleration is pathetic and even single person r drives are lazy in the demo. dunno what will the speed be with 2 persons onboard.

  • per gallon of air?

  • The way to go is study the vapor carburator system, this was used in the past to get super high miles.

Then the Government/car companies got an idea of fuel injector system to waste

  • At least she mentioned that there are skeptics to the AirScam, give her credit for that.

  • Suppose to be out in 2010! Where in fuck is it. It's not going to happen! Never will! Why do you post this dumb dream shit up? Water power cars, air cars, dream on! Big Oil won't allow it.

  • @Jthetinman It was supposed to be out in 2000, but as it's a puerile short range (5 miles) low powered CON it will never be sold. Oil companies couldn't give a toss, they understand physics unlike you.

  • Another investor scam. Elizabeth Chambers does a huge disservice to all the real innovators who are seeking funding for real energy efficiency and green technology by obediently repeating MDI's slick promo as breakthrough innovation, when a short phone call to a high school physics teacher would have exposed the fraud. The word "greenwashing" is now used to describe products remarketed as green, when they really are not. This is way beyond that - this is investor fraud, and she is helping it.

  • @matsea She's simply paid to read a script. Reporters don't do investigative journalism any more, ie. don't check facts. A small YouTube channel wouldn't have the resources to do that anyway. I suggest you write to your governor and ask for legislation that would treat these fraudsters as fraudsters, ie. lock em up. That's the only way you'll fix it.

  • At 0:58 "Unbelievable the company claims their car can achieve 106 miles per gallon".

    Yeah, this is unbelievable.

You know what pisses me off most about granola head? All of them apparently failed high school science.

MDI is a complete fraud, it's a sham.

The car also won't launch in 2010. MDI claims they are just about to launch next year, and have been doing this since at least 2003. They are frauds.

Kids - take a fucking thermo course, please, you morons.

  • the eco friendly channel? WTF IS THE WORLD COMMING TO?!!! Up yours!!!!! give me a 6.6L over some turd shit car anyday!!!!

  • People are so stupid, where does the compressed air come from? Gas or electrical engines- burning up electricity and gas anyways. first run a gas engine- very low efficiency, second make that engine run a compressor pump- still less efficiency, then put that air into a cylinder and piston- more loss of efficiency, where do we stop? I want PROOF!

  • I completely fail to understand why the gender of the presenter is of any consequence. She is doing a job. I wish I could encounter a discussion where there is no rancor or ridiculing. What ever happened to a straight up discussion without calling someone with a different viewpoint, however mistaken you may believe it to be, insulting names?

  • lol the lady is so stupid. ETHANOL is biofuel.....

  • @shorerydr10 not nessescarily, ethanol needs a certain percentage of gasoline in it, at least 5%. when she says boifuel, she may be talking about WVO100 B100 or Bu100

  • Yeah and then the recession came and ZPM probably went bankrupt or at least scrapped that plan....

  • Love the Air Car. But someone claimed that a tank could run 5 miles. But I hope the inventor of MDI uses 2 tanks and a compressor to keep refill constantly. Plus heating the cold air. Then we have a happy customer like me.

  • @Topazman12 "and a compressor to keep refill constantly"

The 40 mile length of extension cord is going to be a bit of a drawback. LOL

  • This technology can work if done correctly, its the bitch ass oil companies that tell you its not possible!

  • @pidos847 This technology can never work no matter how it's done, its the bitch ass oil physics that makes it impossible!

  • just get a solar panel and an electric bicycle -_-

  • I think this is a load of...HOT AIR.

  • only a fag would drive it

  • This is a scam stupid reporter. Get the facts first before reporting it.

  • What is a stupid concept remains a stupid concept. Compressed air the worst and least efficient carrier of energy. To store 14.3 kWh @300 bar in 300 l (90 m3 @ 1 bar) reservoirs, you need at least 93 kWh on the compressor side (with an optimum compressor working on the ideal adiabatic limit and assuming a 100% efficiency, which is not in practice. Most of the energy is dissipated as heat). 14 kWh is a bit more than 1 l of gasoline. So this Negre guy is either stupid or criminal.

  • @joaquinveyron

You are assuming the 1L of gasoline has100% efficiency in an ICE engine, which it is not of course. Its more like 10% efficiency.

  • I would say that the efficiency of a machine is measured in how simply the energy is stored and transfered. A lithium ion battery would be more energy efficient, when you add in the fact that it takes energy to charge the pumps that fill up the air. BUT, on the other hand, the lithium ion batteries are expensive, have a limited shelf life, the magnets in electric engines will go bad after a while. This car uses the same amount of electricity, but is cheaper because of simplicity.

  • you can't measure it in gallons. Wouldn't an air tank car be measured in grams? Gas is measured in the mass of the gas. Liquid is measured in gallons. 100mpg for a gas doesn't make any sense.

  • The only good think about this video is the woman presenting it. Apart from that it is a good example for why French shouldn't occupy themselves with engineering and why women should not try to talk about engineering. (but I know there are many men as well who talk without thinking).

  • yo living green channel yall should get a new sound guy. sounds terrible in there.

  • who cares that it will do the same mpg or miles per air than an electric car we have just made one of the most advanced green cars that will ever make history

  • 1st Modern locomotives are diesel powered, not steam. 2nd like others said Gallon of what? 3rd how much energy does it take to compress air enough to move this vehichle?

  • gallon of what because if you say gas then it isnt really powered by air now is it

  • The MDI air car is a pathetic short range con. In the only published test it went 5 miles at the speed of a fat bloke on a bike. There are no independent tests. It has been going to be available "next year" since 2000.

It is a CON to sell franchises (well over $13million) to technical illiterates

Goggle "Vencat 20 miles" for an article where the USA "distributor" reveals figures that show it will be 5 times LESS efficient than an electric car.

  • If GOD gave us all a light bill, we all be in debt! Why do we not see cheaper solar panels under $1 per watt, because we would hurt the power companies from making money. Do you know that all of the new electronic flat screen tv use up to 5x more energy then a 24" tube type tv. Almost all of the new appliance today consume more electrical energy then in the past 10 years. Phantom power is sucking power 24/7 like TV's, AC, Clocks, battery chargers and much more...

  • Ok, it splits. Then you have to do something with that air jet, not to harm anyone, anything. It's sure, it can be solved, but needs big care.

  • future of transport = BICYCLE!!!

electric trains for long-distance, and just live within 10miles of your workplace.

nothing beats it for energy-efficient transport.

  • I'm all for bikes and use mine frequently for communting and pleasure and exercise. BUT it sucks in heavy rain, windy conditions, and very cold or very hot temps. So it doesn't really work year round. What should hardicaped people use to get around?

  • handicapped people should be allowed cars but not be allowed to reproduce

if you can't handle the climate where you live, or your workplace is too densely populated for you to want to live closer, you should not be allowed to reproduce

  • @b2flyer1

ok fair enough defending handicapped people, but what about my idea of banning breeding for those who can't cycle in the rain :)

how did humans manage for 1000s of years before cars were invented

  • walter0bz: Reasearch Nikola Testlas car The Pierce Arrow...ran on electricity, had NO batteries to recharge, using Tesla technology, there would be NO reason to use cars that burn gasoline, and pollute the planet.Who owns most of the paitents for alternative energy??The OIL companies...

  • @b2flyer1 - I really think cars are a red-herring

The internet connects our minds with anyone anywhere on the planet, and a bicycle gives sufficient range.. bicycle + massed transport (trains) is all we need.

Any country that figures this out & adjusts its culture appropriately will have a huge advantage over everyone else.

  • Built one that is amphibian, since compressed air can also be useful for bouyancy purposes. If it can go on land, on water and under water, it will surely be a worth every penny.

  • Wait... a pretty girl.... must be true!

Hydrogen cars have been around for a long time. Right now they're not practical.

  • is it just me or does she have really small arms or just a big head ?

  • Direct Hydrogen Injection instead of fuel injection.... Just thought of this

  • hoax

  • Just don't crash with it. Any crack on the tank and it simply blows up!

  • Splits, not blows up. It's made of carbon fibers.

  • 800 miles!!!! and can it compress like any air compresser if you just plug it in?? that would be.....................noisy but awesome!

  • Only test published result 5 miles

You need a 3500psi compressor it's expensive to refill and a POC

  • why not replace the oil with water?

  • What about a big spring with a giant key on the back.........Wow I come up with really great Ideas when I am drunk!!!!! I will have to remember to come back here and look at this brilliant Idea when I sober up, since I usually dont remember all of the brilliant Ideas I have when wasted......I always just remember having them..Wow I am going to be so impressed with myself when I look back here!

  • 1:59

  • Why can't we have these type cars? BECAUSE we keep electing Reps/Dems that are OWNED by fossil fuels boys...?

  • @concerned00citizen And the reason why someone like you talks so much bullshit is because your brain is OWNED by a disease called amentia. Where does a mentally challenged person like you think does the energy come from to compress the air in the first place. And have you made some thoughts about the efficiency of compressed air as carrier of energy?? Obviously not like these stupid MDI guys.

  • When talking about using air pressure as a mechanical energy to move a car, the first thing you have to look at is how much energy will it take to convert electrical energy to stored air pressure in the first place.

Look at your basic air compressure, a 5hp three stage compressure will have a max output of 3000psi. but the cfm is just as important too.

Its the cfm that tells how much air can be store in one minute. 3000 psi with 1 cubic foot of air is bigger then a basic scuba tank.

  • Comment removed

  • i dont know what u talking about but i would gladly have sex with u

  • LOL!!!! Funny....Ive got to use that line sometime!!. With your permission of course...

  • 1. they made the body light 2.air power is the way to go 3.if your so worried about electric for the on board pump then why not put a solar top on top of it so the pump will continuously refuel the tanks while in transit?this also would extend the driving range until you actually had to go to an air refill station for it.

  • AIr power is a horrible way to go as it is screamingly inefficient. That is why this piece of cack only goes 7.2km at bicycling pace. You need about $45000 worth of PV's to run the 4500psi compressor you have to use to recharge this SCAM

  • Just how much energy do you think you can make from the sun?

How much cfm's and psi do you think is needed?

Air is less then 20% efficiency from converting mechanical into air pressure.

  • Also, this is a bit deceptive: what she means is that the energy used by the air car would be the energy equivalent of 100 miles per gallon-gas-equivalent, or about 35 kWh of electric energy. NOT 100 mpg!!

  • The aircar is b u l l s h i t.

It can go 25 mph for 25 miles, but it's more efficient to use the electric to charge the battery of a NEV than to use it to compress the air tanks. A HOAX.

  • you are correct. they have until 2010 to meet their claims =D. I'll stick with my bicycle though

  • Which would consider the better choice?

    A gas/electric hybrid or a gas/air hybrid?

Keep in mind that batteries cannot be recycled and require materials (coltan) not found in the US unless a alternative type of battery is used. Air is free and available and is used for air brakes.

  • In order to compress the air, you have to use wall-electric and a compressor. The same energy would be better used to charge a battery, lead and NiMH RECYCLE and are not discarded.

  • Lead and NiMH? Zinc-Air or Vanadium-Boron-Air batteries will be the next step in battery materials because they can be domestically made. Besides how many miles can a car travel on just electricity alone? About 40 miles. Then you need a fuel engine to kick in. A hydraulic drive (Ingo engine) will probably trump both of them although all three technologies can be used regaurdless. The EPA and Eaton has been developing the hydraulic hybrid which is now in use by UPS.

  • Why is better to charge a battery? Most batteries use lithium which will be in short supply if all new cars use it.

  • then again maybe they can incorporate a solar roof onto it like the pries that would run the air pump without having to stop and plug into a wall outlet?

  • You need about $45,000 worth of panels covering the roof of your house to recharge this POC and it will take 6 hours. The air car is 5 time LESS efficient than an electric vehicle.

    Whee.

  • no i dont think so about 45 k,your talking about a home application and i am talking about what pries is doing with their cars in terms of prolonging battery life and this same app could be used with the battery powering the pump which fills the air tank ect ect... and even pries doesnt charge 45k for that think in terms of about 3500 added to the cost of a pries

  • HELLS BELLS READ WHAT I WROTE!

This P.O.C. is FIVE TIMES LESS EFFICIENT than a PURE electric vehicle. It is NOT a hybrid like the Prius.

It needs a SIX KILOWATT (Huge) compressor running for 6 hours to recharge to go if you are lucky 20 miles hence the $45K of panels

Google "vencat 20 mile" for THEIR figures that prove my point.

The world is full of mouth breathing believe any green lie nit wits

    DON"T BE ONE

    Still like Freeze frame better

  • Wrong, do the math....

6-8 hours to charge a 25kw battery pack, just what type of electric bill do you think you will have each month?

12 batteries adds a weight of about 1,100lb to a car, this take more energy to move that car too, do you think this is smart?

Batteries have to be replace every 3-4 years, is that smart?

Batteries go bad even if you don't use them, air tanks last much longer!

To know the truth about ev, just build one and you see the real truth about EV!

  • If you actually do the math, it works out to be at least as good, even with ridiculously low US gas prices.

You can see my math here. It comes out to be about $1.5-1.75 per day. Even at $1.75, I show that it comes out to almost exactly the same cost as my gas car got when gas was only $2.40/gal. Unless gas goes under $2.00/gal again, an EV can still be done much more cheaply.

Not knocking an air car, I think it's cool. But an EV is good too.

  • The only air engine that does that is my advanced rotary engine and ratchet engine.

With 95%+ efficiency unlike any engine today.

Look at some of the prototype on the ratchet engine on my page.

    Thanks...

  • exactly right

  • that sounds better then electric cars weed don't need electric cars

  • You guys are awesome !

    LOVE THE CHANNEL.

Heard about MDI and can't wait to see one personally.

Small SVO diesel generator on board can run that compressor at amazing efficiencies.

Probably an equal to electric cars with the advantage of actually cooling the ambient.

There is also a air rotary engine from Australia that looks very promising for this kind of cars..

    Lets keep doing this !!

    Thank you !

  • Elizabeth, Elizabeth, you look stunning, but how can one say so much unlogic stupid things in such a short video???

  • The rotary is the way to go. Forget that piston/crankshaft tech. Too many parts.

  • My patented rotary and ratchet engine is over 85% efficient, unlike a basic piston engine.

  • What's patent number? Patent pending on water engine exists.

  • Overunitynow(dot)com is where the engine patent is on.

  • If you're right. Wheres the prototype? Wheres the car? Get workin man the world needs somethin good. And it'd be great if it came from freaking America.

  • As we all know by now, It's all about money.

Any types of systems that can be charge by our own homemade energy would not have to pay big ompanies for it. Governments is always pushing the little guy from doing any good. Look at solar panel, why are they still so high? Its all about control and making money, not about GREEN. If we can draw from the Sun and make electricity, then we would have free energy. Governmets don't want free energy for us all, how will the tax it?

  • Well they COULD let us have the free energy. And make money off maintaining functionality and upgrades to the latest most efficient models. You know, since solar panels get more efficient every year. If I ever get in a position where I have alot of money and am building a home. I'll definently be going either solar or geo-thermal.

  • People always forget that "their government" actually belongs to big business...
